Any chance Paul Revere & the Raiders might be doing some local shows this year?

I remember seeing them at the Oregon State Fair 5 or 10 years ago. What a great show!

I (and my parents!) can't wait till the restaurant opens, they are really making that cool old building beautiful; and Yaws returns!

Maybe when the crowds die down (if they do) we can have a PDX radio group "love-in" there!

Hullabaloo was an evening show on NBC at the same time ABC was running Shindig. I believe it was cancelled and replaced by The Monkees. I recently saw a clip of the show and it looked decidedly "adult". I don't remember it being that way.

Correct! Hullabaloo's last telecast was on Monday August 29, 1966, 7:30 to 8:00pm. The Monkees debuted Monday September 12, 1966, 7:30 to 8:00pm. NBC must have filled Monday September 5th with some other program until the Fall Season began.

That likely would've been a special program on Labor Day night...

Hullabaloo featured those go-go dancers with those high boots, shakin' that groove thang for an impressionable red-blooded American boy about to enter Benson High...whew!

I remember KPTV running Lloyd Thaxton, along with the lip synch segments, and the dance crowd at the end yelling after Lloyd would sign off: "and my name is Lloyd Thaxton." (Crowd) "SO WHAT!!"

Schitck was so innocent then! :-)

The Rock and Roll Cafe sounds great!

from the website:
______________________
Yaw’s Top Notch menu

(the famous, double-broiled hamburgers, fries with gravy, Green Rivers , free miniature

Tootsie Rolls for the kids), this one-of-a-kind eatery will also offer contemporary

dishes and will additionally serve as a lovingly-crafted visual and aural ode to the rich

history of Northwest rock ‘n’ roll – complete with rare memorabilia and even a Northwest

“Rock Walk of Fame” along the sidewalk out front.
__________________________

I'll be interested to see who's on the Walk of Fame.

Does anyone know what a Green River is (as mentioned in the menu above)?

The show really sounds fantastic tonight. I liked it a great deal on KISN, but it seemed as if sometimes the engineering didn't match the frenetic pace. Now, it has that live magic, but with the smooth sort of flow that the oldies demand. Mark also seems alot more relaxed, and that reflects his great crew and job security. It sounds like he and Tim have good chemistry. I hope this Saturday tradition lasts a long time.

On the subject of soda, Cora at Seaton's Pharmacy made a mean Green River when I was growing up. I remember that phospates sounded scary before I tried them. I was frightened of drinking anything containing a word I had learned from a railroad tanker car. These days, perhaps Fairley's at 72nd and Sandy makes one.

Bhone! Thanks for the Lloyd Thaxton link. I loved that show. Remember how he used to take an album cover, cut out the mouth of the artist, then put it on a slide thing that made the mouth move, then have the album cover "lip-synch" to the hit song? That was fantastic!

Bhone, I was a repeat customer! I loved the little sign by the cash register about repairing and fixing broken items rather than taking them to the dump and buying a new one...it made me stop and think, and I did/do have my stuff repaired now. I took my parents and grandmother's things in for them as well! It was a nice place to do business, and they always did it right, the first time.

I am dreading having my big TV worked on now...the company that is contracted to do the service warranty repairs has terrible reviews on both Angie's List and Citysearch.com

Should I just pay someone to come look at it? Any companies/service people you would recommend?

Mrs. M, I've heard good things about Wolf (either Electronics or Audio & Video, I'm not sure). They are at Andresen and 4th Plain in Vancouver.

The only experience I have with them is that we took a cassette tape duplicator for Church over there and they looked at it and told us it was BER (Beyond Economical Repair). They didn't charge us for checking it out.

Other than that, all I can go on is what I've heard.

Rotsa ruck!

I have had good results from Wolf in the past but recently, I have a Mitsubishi HDTV that is having some intermittent problems. I called them and they said it would cost $90 to come and look at it and that would apply to the repair if I chose to have them repair it. They said repairs usually run between $200-$600. I have heard that the problem could be in a module(DM) that is the most expensive piece in the thing. I asked how much it would be if that were the case. She said she would have to ask the techs and would call me back within a day. That was a week ago. Not good followup.

Gee, I didn't mean to turn this into a TV repair posting!! Sorry about that. Mrs. M. I was only a hired hand for my family's business and my Brother who took it over when my Father retired is now in TX so I'm pretty much out of it as far as who to recommend for service. I know my cousin just had to have his big screen repaired and it cost him 90 bucks just to have them drive over to look at it and then another 300 to fix it!! good luck!

Well Bhone, this thread still ties into the topic because we are still discussing things happening on Sandy Blvd starting with the old Yaws, to the new Rock-n-Roll Yaws restaurant (yay!), and all the way on up to Palmers, Annies, and Fairley's. So we've stayed within 40 blocks! And 40 years.

Tonight's show features the "Wrecking Crew" that worked in Los Angeles in the late 1950s through the mid 1970s.

Hal Blaine coined the term, but Carole Kaye said that in the 1960s they were referred to as "the Clique."

(Not to be confused with the one-hit wonders who had that catchy, "Superman" single back in '66.)

Here's what bass player Carole Kaye said in a recent letter about being anonymous -- but now legendary -- hit makers,

"Maybe if we dressed wildly, had purple hair, tons of tattoos, married wild women and beat 'em up, drank a ton, did a ton of drugs, cursed like madmen, busted up hotel rooms, put on face make up and acted sexy on-stage (believe me, you don't want to see my right breast, hahaha), then maybe we'd get known right? And sing an out-of-tune rap song like how to etc. etc.

Nevermind, I've gone over that before.

Nah.... we're too boring to be famous.... we're just normal coffee-drinking people with integrity who cut hit albums in 6 hours and went home to our families, nothing exciting about that.... too much like the general public."

The general public could not have cut all those Spector sides or Pet Sounds or a thousand other tunes. They were easily the best pop band of the 1960s.
