WOW....

Nothing like a little adverse weather to test your metal! You can sure spot the good drivers from those who think they are good drivers real quick. It is truly amazing that as a four wheel drive owner that others with similiar vehicles seem to think that it is ok to go faster than others because they have 4wd. WRONG dumb ass......you can get going faster than any 2wd car but are subject to the same stopping problems as any car is on ICE! Slow the hell down. Seen more 4wd in trouble than cars this morning. Over confident drivers!
New vehicle technology is great. My new rig has posi-trac with traction control and anti-lock brakes. If one wheel starts to spin I still have traction and power to the other and the car will actually cut back the throttle to cancel the spin automatically. I have an override switch should I ever want that feature disabled. Anti-lock works great as well as you can still steer if a problem arrises.

This morning just hook up the sleigh to the reindeer and fly to work.....only way you are going to get there!

STAY SAFE

When we have this kind of weather I can't help but gloat on the fact I work from home and don't have to get out in this mess.

Yeah the kids are home from school too, but they are currently outside enjoying the white stuff. They'll head off to the park in a little while and when I get done with some stuff so will I.

Being self employed and working from home, it just doesn't get any better.

God it's such a pet peeve of mine, people in this town when it snows.

I get it that the vast majority of the two million people in the Portland metro area have little to zero history in driving in the snow. That's fine.

Do those of us who DO have a clue and stay home. Get outta my way, cause I am coming through.

I had some moron who flipped me off and damn near ran themselves off of I-205 today because I had the audacity to pass them, on the left legally mind you, doing a whopping 40 mph. I kept going straight and THEY did a 360 and almost ended up in the median.

This isn't rocket science folks, it's snow. Give yourself extra time and space. Give yourself plenty of braking distance. When starting uphill, DON'T STOP HALFWAY UP **EVER**!! DON'T slam on the brakes or gun the gas. If you can, use a lower gear. Lug the engine if you have to.

ARGH it irritates me every year.

I've been out taking pictures in the snow all morning. Just taking a break now to get warm and see how much battery life and flash card space I have left before I run out! My feet are now thawing and feeling WET!

While driving to work this morning, I did see a lot of happy kids around the streets of Hillsboro (the little rugrats got the day off). I was doing 23 MPH tops, and I did encounter a few uncomfortable stops and starts.

I like to take the old Mongoose out (or the Diamondback if it warrants) throw on a MX helmet and boots and BMX (or just ride) out there in the schnay......'specially at night........

Also helps to have a mountain bike with all-conditions enduro-race tyres, like my 'Goose!

We have neighbors that grew up in Boston. They just laugh at us Portlanders when a couple of inches shuts down our city.

Been taking video of our kids along with pictures too. Was up at 5:45am this morning with only a light dusting of snow at that time. Portland Public schools didn't make the call to close until about 7:50am, when many of the high school students were already at school or on their way.

But again I am gloating knowing my vehicle will not leave the driveway at all today.

BREAKING NEWS . . .

PGE reports power is now out at the Taylor household. There is also a report of a Dodge mini-van blocking all southbound lanes of HWY 217. Informed sources say these two events are related.

j/k :-)

There is amazing video posted on KGW.com of Portland cars crashing into each other like I've never seen before. (Actually, KING5.com has a longer clip of it.) Listen closely on the KING5 version and you can hear the first driver trying to accelerate while sliding only making his situation worse!

1. This will no doubt be on You Tube within hours.

2. This reinforces the fact that NW drivers have no clue how to drive in the snow. Atleast "westsiders". (I showed a midwesterner this video today and his response: "was he drunk?")

Hey, everyone...check out KING5.com...they have the version with natural sound...it's eerie and you can hear the first driver trying to accelerate when he (or she) got in trouble. Unfortunately, it is obvious that this action caused even more destruction! This should be a drivers ed course video!
