I heard the new night guy,AJ, on The Wolf last night. Stark contrast to the night gal at KUPL, Carol. Personally, I think that The Wolf has become a much better sounding station than KUPL; which has sounded more like a liner card station recently.

Are you saying that there is something wrong with being a liner card station?!?!? I'll have you know that this is such an fantastic idea, that thousands of stations have jumped on this. How do you think so many people are able to get their first gig in a large or medium market? Why, if it weren't for linercard radio, many of these recent interns with massive school debt would have to move out of the area and hustle for a small market station to begin their careers! Thank gosh for linercards. without them, how would some barely twenty something rocker chick who sounds 14 be able to keep me locked in for the next long classic rock music sweep................

*ahem* There is nothing wrong with a barely twenty something rocker chick. Some of us work very hard to get where we're at.

Older country is great. I'm a huuuuuuge fan of Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Charley Pride, David Alan Coe amongst others. It's just good music...and I can't turn my back on good stuff.

HEY!!! read the whole thing :-) ...There is nothing wrong with a barely twenty something rocker chick or (dude)..... it wasn't personal You are right. But there is something wrong when twenty something rockerchick/dude goes from intern to mid days in a major market, sounds like their first time on the air, and most of their Classic Rock intros consists of "Another long classic rock music sweep is up next and we kick it off with Aerosmith, (or whoever) off their greatest hits CD... You would think most artists have more than a greatest hits CD! If I am too old to jock at a "todays hit music station", then some of these newbies are too young to do classic hits or classic rock. There certainly are some dynamic and professional sounding fresh voices, but far fewer of them than actually populate some of the mid and larger markets.... some don't even belong doing weekends at that level, but they do. Again, don't take it personal, but gosh, I expect the people on the air to have some grasp of what they present, if not, prep like heck and do a believable job of faking it....

Especially when prepping isn't that hard. You just have to be able to read...and maybe write a sentence.

Whatever happened to the days when jocks were passionate about the music they played and knew a lot of information that they could share with the listener? I stumbled into radio because of my knowledge of artists and because of my passion and never have regretted it. Kids, if your new to the profession DO THE PREP! Give the listener something of substance, of interest and wrap it up in an entertaining way and you'll do well! Don't you think that if a song went onto a greatest hits CD or LP that it was on a previous one? THINK! THINK! THINK!

That is a good point. Jocks used to know something about the music they played, and cared about it. I'm sure every DJ has played a format they don't care about, but it is a miserable way to make a career. There are some good examples of DJs who have a lot of knowledge and passion about the music they play. The KINK and KGON jocks often do because they've been playing that music since it was new. The most notable example, though, is 94.7. Every on-air person does a great job at providing relevant info in an interesting manner.

Did I just read, about KNRK, "Every on-air person does a great job at providing relevant info in an interesting manner"? The morning guy Greg is OK, but the rest of the staff??? I'll refrain from making specific references out of politeness...

Kinks/Van Halen.....did someone really say that on the air Paul? Reminds me of the 80s...at KUIK we were AC but played oldies too...I played Righteous Brothers "Lovin Feelin" months after Hall and Oates version had come out. Someone called and asked who was redoing that "great Hall and Oates song".
