I know it's a scary proposition, but is there enough interest to try another get-together in the next few months?

Are you interested? Terrified? Wary? Gung-ho?

Can we pick a date that will work for everybody that wants to come? I'm thinking February to give enough time to check schedules...

Daytime, evening, weekend? What works best for you?

What is a preferred location? How far will you drive? Is public transportation access important? Karaoke? Smoking? Food? Cavity search and/or Weapons check? Coolness factor?

Help me out, people! Give me some ideas on easy-going places that would work for us!

As I said before, when we get closer to our big "date", I'd like privately email the particulars to those who plan to attend, both so we know numbers of who's coming and to weed out any "lurkers" who will be unable to skulk about and not reveal their identity.

Be brave, join us! I think the benefit of meeting everyone outweighs the brief uncomfortableness of actually getting to the door and opening it, and in the end, it will be fun!

Ideas?

Bring 'em on, or if you fear for your life, email me at mrs_merkin@hotmail.com

We'll never find a time/date/location/venue that works for everyone - trust me. Having done this before, I suggest simply picking a place that works best for you and a few of the others (based on some discussion) and let the chips fall where they may, hoping that this becomes a regular thing and that people will show up sooner or later when they can.

As for me, my prefs are: non-smoking, close-in to Portland (but I would drive to the burbs), don't care about the particular time or day. You can email me from my profile but I would like to be on the list...

Andrew

OK, put me down for a possible. I'd even try to get Craig Adams to come along, altho' he'd be the first to tell you that he HATES "in person" get-togethers. I suspect, however, that (once he got there) he'd have a good time.

Details to follow from Mrs. M, apparently? Great... so book some time, Craig!

Non-smoking preferred, I don't care about alcohol or not ... my schedule pretty much sucks, so plan it and I will do my damndest to make it happen. The holiday crud is more or less over at PDX now and January is our slowest month of the year, so that makes it easier.

Im down. The Yugo is back and running just great! I live in SE Portland so If anyone needs a ride I would be happy to pick them up. Although i must warn you, Momma Timberfake has been in the Yugo lately so hopefully the smell of mothballs is not a problem.
Looking forward to the big event.

I'll meet you there!

Mothballs? Oh Gawd, I'm having bladder control problems with that one. I think my parents ski & winter clothes closet was a shrine to them, until we kids insisted they get rid of them, or we weren't coming over any more. Ever.

P.U.

My favorite joke as a kid:

Q: "Have you ever smelled Moth Balls?"

A: Yes, why?

Punchline: How did you get those tiny little legs apart?

Don't know if i'm on the "A" list but a Saturday night would be for fun most likely. Also gives you Sunday to recover....especially if you ask Merkin if she works for a Manufactured Home Trailering Service driving the chaser car!

Why would that cause you to need to recover.....
Well when she asks you what you mean and you reply "I was just wondering cause you look like someone that would know a lot about wide loads......hooo baby....watch out! LMAO

This first meeting of 2007 won't be an alcohol-based event, by any means! DT, you're attending anyway, it's mandatory!

So, no shots, no Karaoke; I hardly know you guys and you'd all never talk to me again, if your hearing does return!

(We'll save that for later, and make it at night, with DT in charge; he scares me sometimes, I don't know if I can handle THAT much fun anymore, but I'll try)

I'd hate to wake up on the beach in Cabo in the morning and have no idea how I got there (What movie or show was that, anyway?)

I thought the "The Game" was pretty good...(although not the best Douglas movie ever), loved the ending...but a bit far-fetched plot-wise. BTW, is Michael Douglas not the best ever "bad guy" you can't help like in almost every movie he did? That is acting talent! (Sorry, a little off-thread...)

Don't know if I can make it Merkin. You see I am posting right now from the inside of a PODS container. I took my wireless laptop out there and when I walked in the door locked shut. Heard a backhoe digging then felt like I was dropped in a hole. Sounds of dirt from overhead then silence! Battery has 47 minutes left and then it will be DARK in here!

I found a note in here...it says:
"Paybacks are a Bitch"
It was sitting right next to an empty bag of M&M's!

Just out of curiosity I was wondering about the regulars that post here on PDXRADIO. Specifically:
% currently employeed in Radio
% that used to be in radio
% of listeners/other
We all know there is a huge number of lurkers and stalkers, I am just referring to the regulars.

Anybody have an educated guess?

Considering that this site is called PDXradio.com, it probably initially attracted those who were either in radio or interested in the subject. I'm sure others with no interest in radio have become regulars through whatever means, but my educated guess is 80-90% either have radio experience, or an interest in the subject. (of course, "an interest" leaves a lot of room for interpretation!)

That I do not know yet. I would like the kind of food they serve at a restaurant with a full bar.

This opportunity for me to do this just fell into my lap as soon as I was invited to a surprise birthday party for a woman that I don't want to surprise. But my wife does - so I have a pass.

I usually start downtown-ish and then move around just a bit.

Speaking of getting together, here are some ideas for places for our group blind date...I'm trying to think of places with good tables, all are close to Max and downtown-y, except McM's near Lloyd Center:

Cassidy's - downtown, easy to find, do radio people go there? If yes, is that good or bad? Smoking?

Multnomah Athletic Club - in the sports pub, but we can't have it there if I chicken out or get sick, and I'm not sure they're open on Sundays. Pro: no lurkers, but that's not a problem since the date/time/final location is not going to be broadcast here.

Biddy McGraws - NE 60th & Glisan, smoking?

McMenamins on Burnside - under the Crystal Ballroom. Pool tables.
McMenamins - On Broadway near Lloyd Center, where you guys went last time

McCormick & Schmicks - great happy hour, but crowded at happy hour?

Are any of these places a "yes" or "no" for anyone? Any better ideas?

I'm thinking March...since I didn't get it together yet, unless we did it next weekend.

Yes. Yes. No. I don't know.

I'm so flexible on nights like that. What time span can you be out of doors? Do you have a curfew? Can Mr. Merkin pull duty at night for a while? Can you pump a batch for the baybee and have a drink? Not that I need to convince you, but, you GOTTA be a little ready for some adult time.

I'm very open to wherever. I need a cocktail and some sitting time. That's not too hard to find in Portland most nights.

Baby M hopefully asleep by 8. No curfew, but I'm so out of practice, who knows what my actual mileage is these days? Mr. M gave blessing to go. Yes to drink(s) (and cab/Max). Does possibly acting juvenile count as adult time?

Does sitting time in a nice chair while drinking mean a strip bar?

Anyone else coming?

Hey...have you actually considered Washington.....all smoke free anymore...kind of nice not to die from someone elses bad habit!

Billygans Roadhouse...C-Tran park and ride two blocks....I even think Tri-Met delivers there or at least there is a transfer from end of max to C-tran into Vancouver! Loud place you can throw peanut shells all over the floor at! Great eat's to!

Vancouver just a thought to consider.....new places opening up in re-vamped downtown area as well!

I think the Damon's closed down DT ... I was down there a few weeks back and if memory serves me correct, the building was vacant.

Billygan's on Hwy 99 is a good one, though it's the north end of Vancouver, not sure how the south-siders feel about that kind of a trek.

I love the NTN trivia game too, it'd be a blast to team up and do tournaments against each other! Any other place carry that?

I can't find much on google so I hope someone will speak up if they know a place. However I still think booze and Karaoke with this group would be something we could sell tickets for! Would love to see certain people get up on stage and imitate those who irritate them! In a fun way of course!

Hah we might as well set up a steel cage in the back of the bar for the post-poking fun on the karaoke stage of your annoying adversary on pdxradio.com Friday night fight festivities! That would be worth the price of admission alone!

I'm not sure of karaoke places in Vancouver, I'm so out of the loop. Most of the places in Portland I've been to are of the seedy variety and I would not recommend them for this mix of company. (Hey, we're high-brow, right?!?)

Powerade is always good after a night of boozineand carouzing! Send your hubby of on a merky mission (mercy)! Green Squall is a good one! Or gatorade RAIN. Gets you hydrated quick! Lots of water good also.

Amen on the Poweraide. I used to be partial to Gatorade. When shopping a Winco though 9 times out of 10 Poweraide is cheaper than Gatoraide. Gatoraide only has one flavor in comparision to Poweraide that is better IMO and that is the original Lemon Lime/green stuff. Not a big fan of the Green Squall but I love the white opaqe stuff tastes like pinneapple.

I gotta a question for when your not so hung over Mrs M as I have yet to try your Vanilla vodka and ginger ale yet. Anyway how does a real Jamiacan Ginger Beer with a Vanilla infused rum sound. The spicey bite of ginger beer with the sweet goodness of vanilla rum. Just a thought I will have to experiment with some nips/jiggers/airport bottles sometime.

Shit though I am forgetting that it is diet ginger ale and not regular. Mrs M as a fan of diet beverages we need to come up with a thread of diet and or low sugar alcoholic concoctions .

Maybe some Indio Oregon Marionberry vodka from Corvallis with Diet Wired Berry Energy Drink?

Anyone??

The place out in front of Lowe's in Vancouver used to have the NTN trivia when it was Bostons. Now that it is All Stars, I'm not sure, but I think I remember seeing it in there.

The Bostons down on SE 164th turned into an All Stars also, but I drove by there the other day and it now a Lloyds Grill. They used to have the NTN Trivia also, but I don't know if they still do.

The new bowling alley, Big Al's also on SE 164th, has a huge bar area and is smoke free. I don't think they have trivia.

I'll check on All Stars and Lloyds Grill and see if they still have trivia and let everyone know.

That building changed hands AGAIN Skybill?!? Admittedly I don't drive out in the Fishers Landing area much ... it's just surprising in that location. Some friends of mine own the Vancouver Schmizzas and they were of course worried when that Boston's popped up right literally in their back yard on 164th ... it's now on its third life and the Schmizza is still plugging away.

A PDXradio bowling night. Wow, hilarity would ensure I am sure!

Big Al's would be fun! Transportation may be a problem though for some. If we can work that out that might be an excellent choice....that or Billygan's Salmon creek! Depending on the date and if I am in town I would be willing to be a DD and pick up 3 people say from the Portland Interstate Ave end of line MAX terminal and deliver them back at a preset time. Anyplace chosen I have to drive so it makes me a DD with a 1 drink limit regardless! Hopefully one Cabo shot as I have been dying to try it! I really don't drink much and like Merkin am a low cost ten sheets to the wind type! So only 1 drink early on then non-alcoholic afterwards! Besides that it brings out the stupid (even worse than normal) in me! I Don't Do Karaoke either! I can't even sing in the shower!
BTW...wives and SO's are OK right. Mine might get peeved if I go to a meet and great with a new group of people I met online and we really do not know and have never met without her! She does not agree with internet chat but this group and forum are so different than the common internet dribble sites it is like night and day! I am sure everyone presents themselves a little different than they actually are (I may exagerate a little) but my personality in here is the same in person...I enjoy FUN!
The sad thing is I look as good in public as my drivers license mug shot! Me and FBR will need our own table! I seem to have packed on a few more over the holiday's!

I'd be willing to be a DD also. I DON'T have a problem drinking Diet Coke (denial isn't an indication of a problem, right!)

Darktemper, I'm with you. On the board, I'm 30ish, tall, dark and handsome. However, unless we can turn the clock back a bunch of years, I grow a several inches, go to a tanning salon, and loose a tremendous amount of weight in a very short period of time, everyone will see different!!!

I'm not sure it's a big deal.

In many places I've used potatohead for years. Got started with that one on a site, on a lark. Registered just for the heck of it, then was glad I did after the fact. Site ended up being very popular and I had an early registration. Ended up just using the handle for a lot of things.

In the end, I've discovered one's handle can be a topic of conversation, but really does not inhibit other things that much.

Change it if you want, but I wouldn't worry about darktemper being too dark.

If you do change it, enjoy it! Pick something that's fun!

For our first group meeting of 2007, does a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon work for most? If no fights break out, DT is in charge of the second event.

I am now emboldened (is that a word?) after meeting both the infamous Missing and CJ, I feel like a weenie for being so nervous and scaredy-cat beforehand and stalling on this. They're just as cool as I imagined, and I felt comfortable immediately! It was much easier to meet people face-to-face than I thought it would be, because really, we're not strangers. (I didn't need my bodyguards after all, and they just got me in "trouble" later anyway, hahaha)

We're basically into March now, but I'm gonna make it happen, and hopefully everybody who wants to meet can make it. Otherwise, we'll talk about you.

That works fine for me Ms. M - the 25th is out, I have a fantasy baseball draft that will take most of the day (yes, I'm a fantasy sports geek, flame away).

I have no problem being a designated driver as well, I can stack drunk people in the Bus like cord wood if I need to. I live in Vancouver but can run people across the pond if need be.

If you gonna do this on a Sunday I could not do it on the 18th but could on the 25th so there are likely to be conflicts. Might I suggest Sunday April 1st as the April Fools theme may be fitting when y'all get together and meet some for the first time....APRIL FOOLS.....Suprise...i'm not 6'2" 165# chiseled 6-pack but instead 5'10" 280# balding carrying a 6-pack! It is interesting how people look online and what they turn out to be in real life! You can be larger than life online and in person you look like life passed you by!

Anyway April 1st was just a thought but I will try to be there if at all possible. It is just that my boy is on break and home from college so I may be busy with family stuff.

Darktemper, I am new, so it is definitely up to you folks, but I would be honored to hoist some java with a collection of the good people here. After vicious and repeated spam attacks, my addy isn't here anymore, but I do believe Mrs. M. has it.

Warner, they really aint being snobby. With the high level of potential loonies coming to any posted gathering on the net, I think it is wise for them to keep that information in a closed loop. I really don't want to see a grizzly bear pop out of a wedding cake or arrive at a bar full of strangers that want to know the frequency when I ask, "are you from pdxradio?"

I am fairly new to this group as well but the little time I have been a party to it I find that these people are great! Some disagreements from time to time but mostly rational people....and most of them local. Not like most blogs where people from all over the world are involved in it. Hell I ain't even in radio but I do listen and voice my opinions on what I like (and at times just plain putting my foot in my mouth and embarrassing myself...love the taste of crow so I hope they serve it where we go). I may have came up with and passed on some decent idea's in here as well. I would not think we have any management (TIES) lurking here to glean off any ideas or worthwhile thoughts and putting them on the air would we?

I as well would enjoy tossing a few (one alcohlic though) drinks with this group!

Actually, I wouldn't count on it. Perhaps not every idea, but one recent coincidence was the influx of golden-era Kinks on K-Hits after my reasoned, but heartfelt plea. In fact, "Well Respected Man" is playing this very moment. I stress, however, that it is purely a coincidence. :o)
