I don't think it's the fact that she's a woman, Bunsofsteel, as much as she comes across to many as somewhat of a fraud. A lot of people in her own party don't care for her, and if you want to gut any chance of someone getting elected, nominate someone who divides your party. George W. Bush's antics have pissed off a whole lot of Republicans, enough to vote them out en masse in midterm elections. Howard Dean was a popular choice early in the 2004 run, but his hijinks after losing Iowa pissed off enough Democrats that they ended up going with a safer bet in John Kerry ... even though there were still a lot of Dean supporters. It hurt Kerry in the end. I don't think the Democrats want to go down that road again. Sure, it's going to be an uphill battle right now for a Republican to get elected President, seeing as Dubya has run the good ship GOP aground, but ASSUMING it will be yours would be dangerous.

I would vote for a woman. Margaret Thatcher [although she's British]. Condoleeza Rice. Jeanne Kirkpatrick [recently deceased]. Phyllis Schlafly. All those women had, or currently have, far more going on than most male politicos. These are women of substance. Herbert M.

That's cool Herb. I would as well. Frankly, it might be about time. The first woman President would be a good one, IMHO. The pressure to represent her gender as being viable would be huge. We would get good leadership on that basis alone! Who wants to be the President that hosed it for women in general?

That does carry some clout. Not enough for ME to vote for her - but you are right, it counts for something in this era of politics. My memory about her is not short though. I FULLY understand that while giving press conferences and interviews, it is her job to stay on message. But I could not STAND watching her give non-answers to relatively direct questions. And frankly, if I am happy about a Democratic victory in the house and senate, and the reasons I feel they won, ( and for me, it was the constant denial of reality in Iraq that really got to me - not that I would have voted for Bush if he and his administration had paid more attention to the dissenting voices ) voting for Condi would be rewarding her for those actions and words and answers while in the heat of the political battle over here in the U.S.. And with that I cannot hang. You are right Herb, she is powerful. That does not translate to me voting for her. I don't get a boner for someone just because they have power. If anything, they are held to a higher standard. A standard she did not meet for me. Not even close. But you do note something that is VERY true in this world right now; Some people really respond to power. They covet it. They think it get's them everything they want. It's never enough, for those kinds of people. They always want more power. And that leads to, well, problems - to say the least. The fact that I used Boner and Condi in the same post makes me a little sick. Herb, before you go back in history to point out some Clinton staffer who did the same in an attempt to make it sound like I would not have felt that way during a Democratic administration - you're wrong. I would have and do or did or whatever.

Let's see now, if Hillary is beginning to tank, Obama is losing steam, Edwards has a wimpy platform, who's left. McCain is beginning to look pretty good and I didn't think I'd ever say that.

Someone sent me this in an email today and I thought I'd share it: At last, a bumper sticker for both parties. FINALLY, someone has come out with a 100% bipartisan political bumper sticker. The hottest selling bumper sticker comes from New York state . . "RUN HILLARY RUN" Democrats put it on the rear bumper. Republicans put it on the front bumper.

Deane said - "Obama is losing steam, Edwards has a wimpy platform" What makes you say that? I haven't seen any loss of steam - at least in the way that would denote a downward trend that would last until election. He started about as high as one could want. From what I have read and seen, he's keeping a pretty efficient pace. Steady - but not down. But maybe I missed some other things. What are they? And what makes Edwards' platform "wimpy"? Specifically.

McCain will be a great Prez now that he has started to shy away from the neo-CONers... Now if he starts using his head and runs for the people instead of greed and power he will be a good fit for President.

>>>"And what makes Edwards' platform "wimpy"? Specifically." CJ, the whole thing. There's nothing there. Universal health care, tax the rich and give it to the poor. There's nothing new, it's the same old radical liberal chant. If you see something worthwhile in his position, post it so we'll all know.

I don't know enough about his platform yet. I really don't. I'll have to pay more attention though. I didn't know he was a radical liberal either. That's something to watch for, I guess. Maybe I'll find some things that I like. I want to get behind someone this time around. I don't mind being led - but I want to be part of the process too. We'll see.

Interesting things about dubYAH: 10. He promises to improve foreign relations with Hawaii. 9. He runs a series of attack ads against Martin Sheen's character on "The West Wing." 8. His #1 choice for a position on his cabinet is "That Bob Vila guy." 7. His outstanding record as Governer is nullified by the fact that no one really cares. 6. He got his degree in Political Economics by bribing Sally Struthers with a chocolate donut. 5. When anybody mentions Washington, he asks, "The state or the DC thingie?" 4. At the debates, he answers every question with a snarled, "You wanna wrestle?!?" 3. He vows to put an end to the war in Pokemon and free the Pikachu refugees once and for all. 2. He says the Pledge of Allegiance as quickly as possible, then shouts, "I win!" 1. On the very first question of the debate, he attempts to use a LIFELINE. Edit add: He can't use phone a friend though simply because he ain't got any left that will take his calls!

Just pointing out that the use of the phrase "Some would say" is a popular Conservative tool (used by Faux News in particular) to get a particular unsubstantated accusation out and try to get it to become part of the vernacular by repeating it over and over.
