I saw in R&R that there are some management changes at Salem in Portland. Can anyone comment?

From R&R: Salem Communications has named Chris Bowlby as GM of Christian AC KFIS (The Fish)/Portland, Ore., and clustermate KTRO (Talk Radio Oregon 93.1 FM). Bowlby brings 20 years of experience in media sales and management to Portland, where he spent several years as director of sales at Comcast and AT&T. More recently, he served as advertising sales manager for Charter Communications in Los Angeles and director of sales for Univision Radio Group in San Francisco.

93.1 KTRO desperately needs new PSA's. They keep re-running and re-running and re-running the SAME ONES OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN. And I REALLY LIKE KTRO! The programming is fine. Please, just throw some new PSA's into rotation. Herb

I'm sure they'd like to replace those PSAs with commercials, but, well, you know...

I'm thinking there's some rule against attaining daytimer status. It could be that it only applies to new stations but I'm not sure.

Dennis Hayes duties are now more focused as (still) the GM of KPDQ AM/FM. He never was a part of KCCS. Herb, you might have confused Dennis with the Georgene Rice Oregon Right to Life spots recently on KCCS.

Do they really need two GM's for a total of four stations?

You know it used to be that they sometimes had one GM for one station...never more than one GM for two stations. Of course they also had one PD per one station, six or seven live DJs, a half dozen sales people and assorted office staff all for one, or sometimes two, stations. But then we must have been stupid or something back then.

Part of that had to do with a requirement that the stations be manned at all times. Most announcers would never have gotten started in the business if not for that requirement.

If the Dems don't do anything else about radio (and I'm not holding my breath), that's one rule that needs to come back, as the infamous Minot example illustrates.

Heard a rumor that Chris Bowlby changed his mind and resigned from the KFIS/KTRO GM position before he actually began the job.
