Donald F. Stellges has died. Mr. Stellges was a former newsman for KEX Radio and KPTV.

Mr. Stellges also acquired part interest in KUIK in January 1962.

Don Stellges was a darling man who worked at KYXI when I first got to KGON and continued to handle the public affairs until he retired from radio. I remember his party at Cal's and if I'm not mistaken, Dan Hern gave him a watch (the classic retirement cliche) at the gathering. He was always smiling at work and would walk down the halls humming a little tune to himself. One day I asked him how he stayed so happy, and he said "well, I get to do this for a living! Isn't that great?"

When the station moved from the Kelly street location to Bancroft, I found a bunch of old pictures of various promotions and tried to get them to people who would like to have them (B.A., Dave & Tom, etc) and I found an old promo picture of Don. I took it home and hung it on my bulletin board just so I would remember what he said to me. It's all about attitude and most times it's the only thing we can control. I thank Don for that lesson.
