Well, I never really have been too fond of Bridgeport (the pizza place downtown PDX, in the old warehouse in the industrial district........sorry, I don't know my way around downtown too well)

Place was obnoxiously loud, and the "cheese pizza" we ordered was practically all sauce, you possibly could have found little traces of cheese somewhere if you looked carefully.

Certainly not worth the $40 we spent that night (that's not counting gas!!)

What about the "Cardboard Crust Kings"

DOMINO'S Pizza or as I call it "Cardboard Crap"!

Why pay $10 or $15 for one of their disgraces when you can get a better totino's out of the freezer at the local quick stop for .99 cents!

I know....it's fun to see what kind of piece off crap car will roll or get pushed into your driveway when their driver shows up!!! LOL

I had a Pizza on an Air Canada flight that I paid $5.00 for at the time, and an even heavier price that night.

But that wasn't in Portland.

Sorry, but pizza is one of those foods that is almost impossible to make poorly (at most local outlets). The worst pizza at most pizzaria's is "OK", and few will put it down and not eat it. Pizza, is either OK, or good, or great. Very rarely bad. Sorry, but those are PIZZA FACTS!!!

No, I've had some lousy pizza before. One of the chains that shall remain nameless briefly tried to open a store in Portland and I tried to patronize it because it was new in my neighborhood. I really gave them a chance, but their pizza was consistently awful. I have no idea what they were doing wrong. They wound up closing the place after about 6 months.

Well, in a roundabout way, that is my point. Many resturants can get away with certain dishes that are not that good, but not pizza! On those rare occasions when they have no clue they will not last.

But, think of it, warm bread, cheese, tomato sauce, delicious toppings, how hard is it to not make it, at worst, edible, and at best, fantastic.

Ask Dominos...they are pretty good at putting sauce on cardboard and getting away with it!

Darktemper - those of us in the pizza business have a name for the Domino's, Papa John's, Pizza Hut, Little Caesars stuff.

"Cheese Whiz on a Cracker".

And trust me, it IS possible to botch up pizza. I've had my fair share of TERRIBLE pizza over the years.

Dominos is pretty bad.

The pizza quality test: Will you eat it cold and do you like it?

Dominos pizza cold is a pretty horrible food experience, IMHO.

I swear I think Papa Johns uses dog food instead of sausage.

Yes. I've had both.

I don't want to talk about it. Shut up.

I ate a Pizza Hut pan pizza at, of all places, Hawaii! I was out late taking pictures then getting some other stuff done and got back so late that many places were closed and it was either fancy restaurant or fast food. It was a pretty pathetic little microwave cheese chip - yuck.

Hah I remember back when I worked for Domino's in Spokane, I was a young aspiring Sparky lunch manager at the age of 19. We switched from the practice of putting raw hamburger on the pizza (the health department frowned on it but my God it was good!) to this "Crumbled beef topping". I swear, this crap had the taste, texture and consistency of Alpo dog food. I mean, by Domino's standards even, this stuff was heinous. We'd tell the customers to not order it, it was so bad.

Having grown up in St. Louis (Imo's Pizza) then living in the Chicago Area (Gino's Pizza), I really haven't found any pizza out here that made me want to stand up and shout "Now That Was Good Pizza!" and I've been out here 11+ years.

Some are better than others. Juliano's Pizza on Mill Plain in Vancouver is pretty good as is Leonardo's in Battle Ground (used to be Dante's) other than those, nothing noteable IMHO.

I think any of the chains that offer a pizza for $5 or $6 bucks falls under the "You get What You Pay For" rule.

All that being said, how about someone starting a "The Best Pizza" thread. (Please!) I do enjoy a GOOD pizza!

Not a huge pizza fan, so I have no real favorites to love or hate... but I do have an opinion about the Papa John's TV commercials: "Papa John" himself comes-off as the sleaziest, most uncomfortable guy I've seen on the tube. You can tell that the directors have told him to "relax, smile, be natural"... but it just doesn't take.

It's another example of "starring in your own commercial" when a real actor should've been hired.

Yeah, funny how that works.

See, even with the thread it was nearly gone! Damn...

Oh well, it also comes with the memory of my youngest being afraid of Chuckie, and having to go into the stinky, germ infested with who knows what other secretions, play pen filled with those little balls, to get him out!

And Chuckie used to freak me out when I was a child!!

I do still go there (Van Mall area CEC) once in a really great long while for the salad bar and arcade games (since I can't seem to find a decent video arcade around here.......) but I try to avoid the pizza at all cost!

No sir, do *not* like little nasty surprises.........

Some stoned guy named "Chuck" in charge of the cheese at some unknown pizza joint came up with the "RAT" idea after catching a huge "RAT" back in the kitchen eating on the cheese and thus came "Chuckie Cheese"!

BTW...Izzy's is foul! Once saw a kid take the spoon out of the pudding take a bite and put it back all with his mother watching who did not say a word!!!!! Never been back since.....

HomeTown Buffet. Their pizza is all the things in Wobboh's post regarding Izzy's, but it's also frozen and has that "everything in the refrigerator" taste. At least Izzy's is fresh puke-filled, garbage topped...

Ah dammit Dark Temper, ya blew my cover! *stomps foot*

But I try to avoid Izzy's like the plague if I can at all avoid it. (I swear to GOD above, I must have gotten what I think may have been Ptomaine a few years ago from there.)

Went there last night but that was with my little clique (BMXrz, sk8erz, the whole ten yards.)

Hey, it's either that or just stay at home listening to the radio (why I can't stand the Coove in the winter--it's too cold and there's nothing to do as a result.............)

I'm going to have to side with Wobboh on this one, too..........

And by the way: Izzy's grilled salmon=Izzy's grilled salmonella! 'Nuff said.
