One thing I don't miss about radio is the non stop requests for the same Christmas tunes. Early on it was Elvis and Blue Christmas, seemed like every request was for Blue Christmas..then came Grandma go run over...For you folks still on the air, what is the painful Christmas song now days?

What?!?!? There are LIVE people taking requests for Christmas songs?!?!? That's absurd! Load the computer, and send those folks home till after the first of the year. Live people spinning christmas tunes and keeping people company during the holidays; who ever heard of such a thing? I suppose they got their home mortgages through Bailey Building and Loan also! BTW, could you play Frosty The Snowman, by Jan and Dean for me?

Where I am, 1. Christmas Shoes (Newsong) 2. Dear Santa (Sean Morey) 3. The Hippopatumos Song (Gayla Peevey) 4. Where Are You Christmas (Faith Hill) 5. Breath of Heaven (Amy Grant) I agree with Radiodawgz on #1, #2 is quite funny, #3 is just silly, #4 and #5 are actually good songs!

I am surprised Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad" hasn't come up here yet........ Four times last Sunday (Afternoon) on 103 is just too much..............and FYI, right now I have Foghat's "Slow Ride" into Living Colour's "Cult Of Personality" going on my CD player right now............

Motozak- I I absolutely, positively, hate that tune. (Feliz Navidad I mean, not Slow Ride). That should be #1 with a bullet on the "Hot 10 Deleted Christmas Songs" Billboard list.

I love it! Can't wait every year to hear it. Don't know why, but I just do. It's just full of goofy happy and this time of year it works for me. C'mon, Warner, you know you can hear it ringing in your head right now. It's simple, sing along now: Feliz Navidad dah-dah-dah-dah-dahhh, Feliz Navidad, dah-dah-dah-dah-dahhh He means the very best Christmas, really. Just listen, it's hard to miss!

Missing~ "It's just full of goofy happy and this time of year it works for me." Warner~ "That should be #1 with a bullet on the "Hot 10 Deleted Christmas Songs" Billboard list." Big "Yeah" to both.......true, I too think it's a happy song but ya gotta admit after hearing it at least five hundred times per week since Thanksgiving it gets, well.......irritating!! And during the holiday "off-season" I suppose we can apply this same logic to James Blundt's "You're Beautiful" as well! Glad I got a Dish, and free 24/7 access to classic rock & roll on Echostar............

Chris Rea - Drivin' Home for Christmas. I totally adore the (2004?) song but suspect it might be a little overplayed this year given that it has been played 67% of the time I've heard Christmas songs on the radio this year. Actually, I've been very careful and only heard three songs played....

When does Christmas music stop? The firm rule at my first paid radio job was 6 p.m. on Dec. 26th (Boxing Day in Canada). But, if memory serves, the Adult Contemporary station in my local market (Edmonton) often goes through New Years with their All Christmas Music format that generally begins about Dec. 1. By the way, my first radio job (CHQM AM & FM in Vancouver) always played absolutely no commercials on Christmas Day!

Adiant, no no! 11:59pm 12/25. This is the standard in the US. Canada, not sure. Commercials on 12/25. As my last sales manager once proclaimed, "if there is money to be made, let's make some money".

"11:59pm 12/25. This is the standard in the US. Canada, not sure." FCC mandated, I believe.......... Although Muzak usually ends up playing Christmas music into, like, the first or second week of January from what I understand.

Adiant, Did you work at QM during the "Beautiful Music" days or after their change to AC?

1971-72, in the "Beautiful Music" days, although Jurgen Goth spiced up the music quite a bit with perhaps 15% Brazilian music. And the station played nothing older than two years old outside the specialty (opera, classical, etc.) shows. The AM side actually went Light Rock -- "You're So Vain" was about as far as they went -- a little over a year later, but the Station Manager (he owned 15% of the station) was fired over it by the majority owner, and the station went back to its Background Music approach until after CHUM bought the FM (the AM was re-sold almost immediately and turned into an ethnic station) and turned it into AC. I was there at the time when simulcasting was eliminated by law, except for the all night show, which changed the stations quite a bit. I just regained control of chqm.com, which describes that period, and will be revamping it once I retire next month.

I still prefer the slow build up to 24/7 christmas music rather than all christmas all the time starting Thanksgiving, but then I prefer live announcers doing live shifts also. Am hearing more than one doing 4 hours live on one, moving to a sister to do 4 more and hearing the same voice VT another shift or two elsewhere in the cluster... Seems like 10 hour days are becoming the norm for the broadcast industry. Glad to see a civilized society like the U.S. be able to trim the work day down from 15-16 to a more family friendly 10-12. Wishing everyone a very happy 1907! Here's to technological advances to give the worker even more leisure time in the years to come. God Bless President Roosevelt (Teddy)
