Is there an album that you own that you are VERY embarrassed to admit owning. C'mon we all have them. Maybe its an album that you remove when your friends come over because you know he or she will make fun of you. Don't be afraid to admit that you are still a Wilson Philips fan or that you have a weak spot for Faster Pussy Cat.
What are your favorite "guilty pleasure albums"?

I would have to say my wife's collection of early '80s butt rock, sometimes I just find myself taking a Ratt cassette and popping it in.

Tori Read, before she became Tori Amos. Album titled "Y Kant Tori Read"

Fairground Attraction - "The First of A Million Kisses"

Various my Amiee Mann.

The first three contain some really great, perky female vocal performances with attitude.

Manhattan Transfer - Extensions (A foreign Affair is simply beautiful) IMHO, an absolutely perfect cut of vinyl.

Various Broadway show tunes. IMHO, a lotta people are missing out on musicals!

SAGA - "Worlds Apart" I love this album because it tells a great story. It's like an audio movie on the disc, if you can get past the wierdness of the music. Each time I play this, on a long drive, I listen with wonder at the scenes, from a movie never produced, that pop into my head.

All the albums above are extremely well produced, IMHO.

Various - Irish Rovers

"My mother, she was orange, and me father he was green" --lyric from: "The orange and the green"

Ended up liking these guys because my aging father in law plays them hard each summer. Fun!

Not so much that I own any of his albums, but a secret guilty pleasure of mine is watching the Lawrence Welk show on KOPB every Saturday night at 6PM...

it just takes me back to a better time.

Anyone ever hear of a musician name Randy Edelman? His 70s stuff!

Yeah..I thought so.

Oh and one more thing. For this time of the season it's "Jingle Cats"...I can hear my kids listening to it even as I type this post.

Mike- Oh yeah Mr. Welk for sure. These days it's even more fun to watch because there's a singer that used to be a regular on the show that I have gotten to know.

Hesitate to say, but The Carpenters.

I believe Karen was one of the 20th century's best female vocalists. Yes, some of the music was corny, but she sounded great (especially 1970-72).

There I have said it. I feel much better now.

And as Mikekolb said, "it takes us back to a better time." So true.

I'll third that! I love The Carpenters. Karen's voice was remarkably good. (She didn't think she was a very good singer and wanted to be a drummer early on!) And, you've got to love the old Welk shows. I used to load those on the 2-inch VTR's on Saturday nights back in my youthful days at K2. What wonderful memories!

I don't actually own it but I have some in my library "Neil Diamond". When I was young that is some of what my parents listened to so I had to by default. Some is actually pretty good. It ain't Rock and Roll but the guy has pipes and once in a while I will listen to it for old times sakes. Brings back good memories of days long since passed.

Gotta add one: Milli Vanilli

The tracks "Baby Don't Forget my Number" and "Girl, You know it's true" are extremely well produced. Sound a few years ahead of it's time, punchy and colorful. Some early PM Dawn stuff is similar, but not quite as excellent as the Vanilli is.

I use these tracks when I do the occasional stereo install. They are not clipped much at all and have elements that clearly exercise the various crossovers and speakers.

After having tuned things for best overall balance, eq and overall sonic impact, it's a fricking crime to insert many over produced CD's made today.

I've had more than one person say it sounds like crap on their music --as in not clear. Answer is always, "Yep, sucks doesn't it?" Duh! That's what clipping in the digital realm is all about. That's the way it goes, educating them one at a time!

IMHO, that's another guilty pleasure these days of compression, etc... Listening to something actually produced in a manner that was meant to be listened to!

The Carpenters went cool in the 90's with the Sonic Youth's cover of "Superstar".

I've The Monkee's "More of the Monkees" to submit. Its actually a fun and nice sounding album, but, well, yaknow, The Monkees??! Wait, the Monkees also went cool in the 90's when Smash Mouth did a cover "I'm a Believer".

I guess I don't have anything to be embarassed about.

Early Neil Diamond is good stuff ( Solitary man, Cherry cherry)
but boy some of his late 70's stuff was truely garbage( "you don't bring me flowers" That duet with babs Striesand- AWFUL)
Have you guys heard Neil Diamond's New album that just came out a year ago??? IT ROCKS! It is soooo good. Radio is ignoring it, for reasons I just can't understand!!! Yep, Radio is ignoring the new Neal Diamond album, yet they will thow on the new Brittney spears single before the album is released! FUCK RADIO!

It's been a while since I listened to Neil Diamond but I seem to recall that my favorite was "Brooklyn Roads". Will have to check out his new album out of curiosity.
Justin.....you hear about the new Barbie Doll they have out this year? It has an amazing resemblance to Brittney and it has been dubbed the "Has Been Trailer Trash" Barbie. Come's complete with a worthless husband, carton of cigarette's, and a case of porkrinds! LOL

My Wife brought out an old Joey Lawrence cd and I just about pooped my pants. Thats right, the ass clown who is on dancing with the stars and was in the tv show Blossom. WOOOWH! I can't believe he put out an album in the early 90's. It's my wife's guilty pleasure, I like to use the cd as a beer coaster.

Ever see what happen's when you put a CD in a microwave on high? If not maybe you could make that one your first.....it's pretty cool to watch horrid music melt!!! Kind of a payback for sucking so bad!!!! Then you can bake your Brittney after that just because....just because she is old news!!!!

I don't own any Neil Diamond, but since there were a lot of posts with his songs, I thought I'd chime in with my favorite of his songs; "Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show"

OK back to the thread. I guess I'd pull or hide my Peter, Paul & Mary albums. Hey, they have great harmony in lots of their songs!

Okay, I'll admit it. Six of the first seven Kenny G releases.

Try to beat that with a frozen snake.

In my defense, I haven't bought any of his stuff since 1992.

OK, I'll admit it. I bought four of the Hip-O Select Tijuana Brass re-issue CDs this past year. After hearing those albums again after many years I realize Mr. Alpert has gotten a bum rap. Sure, the TJB suffered from overexposure at the time, but they made some great music!
