I noted yesterday that the "War on Christmas" thread is locked and no new posts may be added. I'm not sure whether the message board software locks threads after they get too long or if this was done by the moderator due to content.

If it was a moderator's decision, I can see his point: On a few occasions, I've looked at the pdx.general newsgroup, and some of those discussion threads just go on and on way beyond the point where any valid discussion can occur. Some of the discussions on that board (like one about the Pioneer Square smoking ban) contain literally dozens of posts that are just one-liners and name calling.

I don't know either why that thread was locked. Things were fiesty at times but I thought we overcame that.

This was the last post on the thread. The Rabbi wanted an 8 foot tall Minorah next to the trees but the airport officials said no, it might offend other religions. I wouldn't be offended. I tell you political correctness will mean the death of America!

Nope.

I tried it too. Has some serious thearaputic potential, but with the shifting colors, you just never know...

The Merkin has it right. That is the point of the closed threads. Too much commentary on one topic in particular...

I'm gonna take the bait. Personally, I think the Rabbie is wrong. A minorah is a religious symbol. A Christmas tree is not a religious symbol. If the airport had a cross or a nativity scene, fine, put up the minorah. But to threaten a lawsuit, spare me. The Port should have told the Rabbie to take a hike.

I don't know either why that thread was locked.

-----------------------------------------------

359 posts to it and you don't know why it was locked!! After reading through it a little bit it was repeat after repeat after repeat...it was not going anywhere and was pretty much pointless after a while.

If Dan put a filter in here eliminating insults Wayne, you would be the FIRST one gone.

Calling people terrorists and anti-American because they don't agree with your ultra-right, Bible-thumping Neanderthal views is unacceptable IMO, yet you do it all the time. Suggesting that others who post in here are happy for the attack on Pearl Harbor because they simply pointed out that YOU cannot add is unacceptable. Attempting to shove your religion down our throats when we repeatedly ask you NOT to is unacceptable. Yet you continue.

You should be glad that Dan is as lenient as he is about his board. If it were my board, your backside would have been kicked out long ago.

FYI, the trees are back today. The rabbi backed down on his threat to sue.

I think in this case, the real problem is lawyers and lawsuit-paranoid bureaucrats, not people who would like their religion also recognized during a time of quasi-religious observation.

Threatening to sue over a Christmas tree, a non-religious symbol, is ridiculous.

I agree Tadc, this Rabbi probably got the ear of some ambulance-chasers who want to clog our busy courts with more frivolous litigation.

well I am glad the trees are back. What is wrong with having a religious symbol on a tree even if it is public? I never have seen anything in the constitution that forbids that.

The port is paid for by tax dollars, and tax dollar supported enterprises, such as the port, are not supposed to be endorsing religion.

yes they want censorship. They tell me not to post here anymore. The reason is they want only liberals to post here. Thats censorship to me. There are rules against profanity.

Brian, I'm for an low-intelligence filter. before one can log on, you have to answer a randomly selected easy FACT-based guestion like "Is the earth flat?" or "What color is a red sky?".

Some here won't be able to log-on 75% of the time.

Maybe we can create one, Skep.

I have a question ... from an old kids joke:

"Which is heavier, a ton of feathers or a ton of bricks?"

This could be FUN!

Ya....with these 3.5 hour movies they have now...need a bladder break once in a while....I mean come on...they sell you a giant soft drink (or you smuggle one in) and expect you to sit for that long.....GET REAL! It's handy that the Regal we go to has a Wal-Mart right next door. We smuggle everything in for the movie we can stuff into our pocket's and get away with it!

Nice!

We always stop before entering the theatre. The food freedom was perhaps the best thing about drive-ins. Basically you could do just about anything as long as it didn't annoy the others --even then a quick move to the back took care of that!

Being married means the Mrs can carry a large handbag. She dumps all the bizzare stuff (Why she carries it, I've no idea, but for her simple statement, "It's mine!"), leaving room for ample and cheap goodies.

We buy the drinks, and munch away.

(And yes, she nearly always puts all that crap back in there when we get home.)

That's the ONLY reason I've ever been in WalMart. To get candy and to watch the freakshow in the store after we buy our tickets early.

You didn't even have to sneak it in to Eastport, they were OK with outside food for a long time, until they said that people were bringing in whole pizzas and buckets of KFC, and other people were complaining about the noise and smell, so they finally clamped down.

I take in my own pop (Diet 7-Up Plus in the bottle) so I can wizz the cap down on the dude with the ABBA ringtone...

My ex-best-friend introduced me to the popcorn/raisinette combo. I thought it sounded disgusting till I tried it...oh my...

Sing it with me, folks!

Good grief!

I'm laughing at that! Watching the freakshow is just about all a Wal-fart is worth!

I know the prices are good, but I just can't bring myself to actually do it.

Speaking of annoying ringtones. I once had the family do this:

Count to three, turn around and just stare hard at the bozo behind us with the noisy phone. Worked nicely. Not as fun as the cap tho...
