Guys-

I'm gonna be honest, here. Trevor said alot of stuff, some of which ultimately led him to be fired. However, give the guy a break. He loves radio, and hopefully now is more wiser. WHO thathasn't done something they regret a time or two cast the first beer bottle.

1lossir-

you're kidding me, right? There's ALL kinds of sh*t talking on here, it's just that most of the sh*t talkers do it under a handle and hide their name. Trev' ( newportadio) didn't. He didn't kill or hurt anyone; He complained about working at his old station, and was fired because of it. He paid the price, & I know he learned from it.

We have ALL learned things the hard way, a time or two.

Sometimes it just takes extra thought to avoid learning the hard way. If it's your job or the beer...how about you drink one less beer?

But for Mr. Trevor, I feel for the guy. I won't mention exactly what was said, but he found my real aim handle and we chatted for a bit...he doesn't have the best support system in his life.

Well, you know, that's tough. Not many of us here were born with a silver microphone in our cradle. Using crutches like "he doesn't have the best support system in his life" is just that. A crutch. People here tried to help him and he ignored it all. Even if Trevor didn't reveal his real name, lots of people knew who he was, where he worked and how he was indeed "killing himself," professionally speaking.

I do think that most of us here, myself included, hope he gets another chance and makes the best out of it. If he has actually learned a lesson here from all the advice and yes, abuse he's gotten, then he may have a chance. But puh-leez, we don't not need even a hint of any type of "trouble" in his personal life. We don't need to hear that about anyone.

I didn't say trouble. I'm just saying that I feel for the guy because he doesn't have a great support system.

Assumptions are always a wonderful thing however. :-)

Do you think he is qualified to be the General Sales Manager at KINK?

On the upside, the fact that we keep talking about him means he made an impression!

Good, bad or notorious, sometimes publicity is publicity. Actually some of us were quite tough on him, but he took it all without lashing out.

Whiney at times, he eventually put something together. his flaw was being a bit too public 0n the board.

I thought his approach was bad, but to his credit, his air presentation on the demo was good enough to get him on the air. (subjective opinion)

If anyone remembers a character from AA by the name of "GARGY" Trev fit that here, hence he is an easy target! His only way to live that down is to become a "success". If "success" is determined by an on air gig, then by achieving that, he will surpass some of us ustabees!

Historically, that's the kind of pay you get in small markets. Although 1800 is pretty low. Last tiny market I was in paid 1600+ for mornings, 15 years ago!

$1800 works out to $10.38/hr IF you figure on a 40 hour week...but how often do you get to work ONLY 40 hours in a market that size?

The lowest sales guy is probably getting $2500 at least. The GM if he's making his numbers is getting close to 6 figures.

How fair is that?

I just Dxed them from Hillsboro and they announced "kix, ninety-six, hot new country"

And click on application list...it is a very short list. License to cover was granted 1/11/2006.

Actually, 450 watts in Tillamook would be the SECOND most powerful FM station! The FCC website lists:

KAIK (EMF) 6 watts
KTCB (repeats KMUN) 380 watts
KTMK (repeats OPB) 140 watts
KTIL (Oregon Eagle) 1800 watts when using that tower site, or 6500 watts from studio tower site.
KGLS-LP (Good Life) 100 watts.

Ocean on one side, coast range on the other, location is pretty well "boxed in". Even if they could use 100KW from that location, I would think that they would not be a viable "rimshot" into the Portland metro area.

Reaching Portland wouldn't serve them anyway, but 450 is a bit light...............

Let me toot my own horn a bit ("Toot Toot")

Yeah, I would take that. I sure would be interested in hearing who winds up with that gig.

Perfect for someone already nearby. I doubt that they would seriously consider anyone out of the area...........

None of these powers mean anything without a listed tower height. 450 watts at 1000 feet may cover an entire area whereas the same power at -30 feet probably won't be much of a factor.

I'm Channeling him.....

:-D

Hey I applied, but I won't ride the roller coaster of the high of sending the package followed by the crash of being an also ran for whatever reason..... this way if nothing comes to pass, nothing lost. If it worked out, then it's all good. Want the whole list, or just the highlights of we liked you but though you were in the area already............

Surprisingly more than one thought I was in Salem Oregon, Rather than the actual Salem, Ohio.....

I apply for jobs I am qualified to do, in places I'd like to live.

Now this interesting Cliff Claven historical highlight......

Did you know that Salem, Ohio was the boyhood home of Alan Freed? It's also recognized as an important stop on the underground railroad, though I have yet to see where the trains ran.
I am pretty sure that is how Alan Freed was able to introduce Southern black music to northern white audiences........

We now return control of this thread to you.....

Smile a little, and have a Merry Christmas.

Semoochie:
So true, I should have provided height data, but in this case all of the stations (including KIXT but excluding KGLS-LP) are on the same tower! (ASRN #1018405) So, for the most part, we are comparing apples to apples.
This is a fairly short tower (about 150 ft) located at about the 1400 foot level on the ridge between Tillamook and Oceanside/Netarts. Great location! Range in elevation for the antenna structures runs from 448 to 463 meters above mean sea level. KAIK has the top FM position, with KIXT just below... KTCB seems to have the bottom spot.

OK, it's a Class A. It looks like the signal goes up to Manzanita and very strong to Rockaway Beach. Tillamook should be no problem in the absence of any overloading Class Cs in the area. I don't think there's much more to cover.

Sure you can. I made more money in Newport than I made in Bend or Portland...

As for it being a great place to live--not really. Unless you consider a quaint oceanside town with a meth problem, a rundown city-center, no economy, and no citizens between the ages of 18-40 a great place.
