Saddam's Nephew Escapes Iraqi Prison BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP)- A nephew of Saddam Hussein serving a life sentence for financing insurgents and possessing bombs escaped from prison Saturday in northern Iraq with the help of a police officer, authorities said . . . The escape by Saddam's nephew underlined one of the problems facing the U.S. military as it tries to train enough Iraqi security personnel so U.S. troops can go home: the ability of Sunni Arab insurgents and Shiite militiamen to infiltrate Iraqi police forces. Monday can't come fast enough for Rumsfeld now I'm sure.

One more indication we should just line them up and shoot them after we capture them.

Actually engaging them in our process competently would do in a pinch too.

How 'bout we do engage them in our "due process of law," then we shoot them?

How do you engage Saddam's nephew, who is serving a life sentence, in our process? I say that since a life sentence didn't work out, when we recapture him, send him to the land of 47 virgins.

>>>"Is the penalty for escape death?" Seems to me it should be. I don't think these people understand anything else. We should be speaking their language.

So enemies of the United states are somehow less than people in the eyes of our law? Nuremburg comes to mind... It's not that I don't see your point --I do. This guy is probably not good news. However, it's difficult to level the death penalty on him when we've demonstrated less than excellence in our handling of things over there in general. Remember our prior discussion about the high ground? We don't have it in the eyes of many. This is our own fault, BTW. If one is going to be put to death, it needs to be for rock solid, undisputable reasons. Otherwise it's not just. Now, having escaped, he could be shot in an attempt to capture him...

Yeah, crappy out actually. I won't condone it, but won't cry over it happening either. That's gonna be a moral choice for somebody. Unavoidable. Where the official line is concerned, we really need to consider how we apply our law and make damn sure it's equal and consistant.
