WASHINGTON - Mary Cheney, the openly gay daughter of Vice President Dick Cheney and wife Lynne, is pregnant, according to a published report. Mary Cheney, 37, and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe, 45, are "ecstatic" about the baby, due in late spring, The Washington Post reported in Wednesday's editions, quoting an unnamed source close to the couple.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16070170/

To Wayne and Herb, how do you feel about a gay couple giving birth? Are all 3 of them going to hell? Should they see a christian counselor (brainwasher) to help them get over their gayness?

This is why people believe that same sex couples should have the same rights granted by the state as hetro couples. They've been together for 15 years and will raise a family together. Yet, bigots like Herb and Wayne want to deny them their constitutional rights as Americans to be treated equally. The Bush Administration would strip them of any rights if they could, which is sad, especially since Mary Cheney's father Dick is part of that Adminstration. What a jerk.

And one other thing...take a good look at Mary Cheney and Heather Poe and tell me that sexual orientation IS NOT biological. Neither of them chose to be gay, they were born gay!

Are you sure? I heard they met on the court house lawn near the nativity scene and made a decision to be gay. I believe someone saw them flipping a coin.

For those opposing same sex relationships, two men together is an abomination, while two women together is no doubt a fantasy.

I'm sure that they didn't choose to be gay.

However, being born into the Cheney family would certainly make you want to stay away from Dick.

Personally I think gay couples should be allowed to adopt children, but conceiving of children by artificial means seems a bit selfish to me regardless of whether the couple is gay or straight.

To each his own. It's no different than a hetro couple doing the same thing. As long as they provide a loving household, that's all that matters. And you would think that a couple that has gone through whatever they have gone through to have a child would follow through on the love.

My son was conceived by artificial means (in vitro). Both my wife and I had fertility issues. We were successful with my sperm, her egg, in a petri dish, followed by implantation.

Since then, we have gone through what any other parents would have gone through.

Listenerpete, why would you say that we are selfish?

ListenerPete,

I am shocked!!! We need to talk...

And In-Vitro is not "artificial" by any means, especially with your own eggs and sperm.

You just had some "help".

Anybody who works that hard (adopt OR IVF) to get a baby deserves one! They make the best parents...

Okay, you are correct, I spoke to soon. If the sperm and eggs are both from the parents, I agree.

Thanks LP!

People have no idea what we went through to get Baby Merkin, we needed a lot more help than IVF, We could live in a lot nicer house or drive an Escalade or two, and the finances weren't even the hardest part, it was mental; it was years of heartbreak and losses. We wanted that baby! And we gave it our all to get her.

Think of all the unplanned pregnancies/babies that effortlessly result from just plain ol' regular sex, drunken one-night-stands, "I'll pull out", "It can't happen the first time", blah blah blah...it's pretty unfair!

All the years I spent trying to avoid it, by being "responsible", and then when you're in the right place to have your turn, life deals you the worst possible cards in the deck. Thank Gourd that PDX has one of the top 2 or 3 fertilty clinics in the US.

So I say to Mary Cheney, "good for you, Mom(s)!", whether they used the good 'ol turkey baster and a friend (David Crosby?) or every high-tech resource available. There is one very much wanted baby who will be just fine with her two moms!

And I bet Dick will treat that baby exactly the same as the other 5 grandkids.

I'd love to say I'm actually the man that WW thinks I am, But Mr. M., the conservative Army vet would KILL me. yep, I'm still a girl. You can't fake (or buy) saggy milk jugs like mine.

Mrs Merk I don't come here very often, but I think you are boss. Mr. Merk is lucky to have you. My real concern was those kids that don't get adopted for one reason or the other. It's a shame that some kids grow up without loving parents.

It's a shame the some people even have children at all. I would much rather see a child without parent's than one with abusive parent's that are angry with them and blame them for existing and that they are the root of all of their problem's!!!!!!

Encourage a child to succeed and he will.....!!!!!

Although Cheney is basically on the record saying he doesn't think there's anything wrong with homosexuality (duh!), I think that this is just another example that the current Republican leadership doesn't really care about these social issues. They are really most interested in helping the rich: the big donors. Lip service is paid to things like gay marriage but not much is done beyond approving some right-wing judges.

Social conservatives (religious right) hare been duped time and time again by these people. That's why they keep voting for people like Bush and Cheney. Otherwise, they'd be voting for people who don't openly support their gay daughters.

I'm just now reading "Tempting Faith" by David Kuo who in effect says the same thing. During the 2000 campaign Bush promised to spend billions on the so-called faith-based initiatives, but after Bush became president, the amount committed beecame almost nothing new. The reason? All that money earmarked for helping the poor via faith-based charities was needed for those big tax cuts for the rich, including cutting the estate tax. Not only did this short-change the charities by not giving them new tax money, but changing the estate tax discourages even more rich people from giving their estates to charity to avoid the tax. Yet "compassionate conservativism" was a major theme of Bush's 2000 campaign. Obviously it was nothing but a sham designed to lure in middle class soccer moms and the religious right, but tax cuts for the rich and big military spending are what really matters to this White House, not whether two lesbians want to have a baby.
