Rumsfeld Memo: Iraq Tactics Not Working

By ROBERT BURNS/Associated Press
December 02, 2006 11:19 PM EST

" . . . it was disclosed that Donald H. Rumsfeld called for major changes in tactics two days before he resigned as defense secretary.

"In my view it is time for a major adjustment," Rumsfeld wrote in a Nov. 6 memo to the White House. "Clearly, what U.S. forces are currently doing in Iraq is not working well enough or fast enough."

Hmm . . . how ironic, when Rumsfeld FINALLY is giving the President good advice, he gets canned.

Normally I would see that as some sort of " whew - ok - so someone in a position of power actually DID admit there is a problem " - however;

The kind of stonewalling, denying that there was any problem and that every thing was just peechy-keen and anyone who says differently will be treated with a severe tone of indignancy is not forgotten by me.

I'm sorry, but the fact that he knew, tried to fix it, was denied, yet painted a MUCH different picture than that memo states, is not enough for me to just go " Oh goodie. Hey - I wish he was back! "

I'm sick of that and it's not that I need to know matters of national security. But that sheer bold faced LIES and how Rumsfeld belittled people who dared question the strategy implemented, all the while he's actually AGREING with those who were saying that there were serious problems ( only doing it behind closed doors ) doesn't give him a pass.

It does, however, make me feel better knowing that at least he saw it. Too bad he couldn't do anything about it.

And frankly, and I honestly feel I would say this even I supported Bush wholly and completely; It scares the living shit out of me that a handpicked, publically supported by the President man, would STILL get denied Bush's ear. I think it really says something about Bush's ineptitude and stubborness to only do what he believes is right. Even when it, by his own standards, is being shown how it is NOT right.

he just does whatever he wants. Trusted advisors and smarter men than he be damned - they get shown the door.

And THAT, ladies and gentlemen, it a VERY bad thing for you, me, Earth and history. There is not one thing good that comes from Bush's obstinance. He's not a leader when he acts like this. He's a child throwing a hissy fit. And everyone in his cabinet, past and present, seems to know it.

This man is no leader. By any definition of the word, he is not.

Hmm. He wrote that in a White House memo one day BEFORE the elections.

He is out two days later.

Coincidence?

Being the suspicious type, my first thought was that Rumsfield may have had some doubts all along about what the administration was doing in Iraq.

However, those doubts were not strong enough to act on until he knew he was going to be kicked to the curb, and only at that point did he start working on rehabilitating his legacy.

In other words, Rummy was playing C-Y-A.
