Is there a website where the great along with the unsung jocks of Oregon and Washingon can be found? A place where we could locate the various folks who are still in the biz, have gotten out, are working at Walmart, or have died? Stations they worked at, dates, shifts, etc???

I've always wanted to start one of these, but don't really have the time to do it right.

440.com is a national version, but charges a fee to be listed, and thus, somewhat incomplete.

LAradio.com has one of the best "where are they now" sections I've seen, with hundreds of photos, and seems to be kept very current.

If there is a NW site, I'm not aware of it.

Many members here know where a lot of their ex-colleagues are.

440.com was founded by Johnny Williams...KISN PM Drive 1961-62...later part of the original Boss Jock crew with The Real Don Steele at KHJ.

The site was...and still is free. However, he has such a backlog of stuff submitted by DJ's, the only way you get moved to the top of the Q is by paying an administration fee.

However, Johnny's listing of DJ's from the 60's was a labor of love. I helped him put the 60's KISN roster together.

440 is such a great place to do DJ searches, as well as Robin's site.

Why aren't you in there, Craig? You have a long history in the business.

Wayne: I've never considered myself in the same league with the radio veterans listed on 440. I'm just a lucky weekender that gets the opportunity to play on the radio. The full-timers do this six days a week, living with that constant pressure to pull those good numbers, year in and year out. They deserve the recognition without some fill-in guy listed next to them, trying to act the part.

Craig, you have a tremendous sense of humility that is sorely lacking in many radio people. That in itself is reason enough to be listed. Professional and humble. Great traits for ANY company to seek!

I only have 32 years in the radio biz.....I won't be listed until I complete a few more. I don't really know where the cutoff line is?
For all that matters I am a vet, having served my country and I have worked (played I guess is the word) in radio. Radio Vet????
Say what are the rules and who makes them?

I still think you are a legend, Craig. You have done it longer than anyone I know who is still active. I would like to know the history of some that are not in 440 International. Pat Pattee of course comes to mind. So does Craig Walker, Barney Keep (he only worked at one station) and maybe Tom Michaels, for starters.

Bestdj: Anyone who has put up with more than enough "stuff" for that long IS a "vet" in the radio biz. (...Especially if you can tell stories on some of your contemporaries!!)

(And thank you for your service off the air, too!

I nominate Paul Walker to start building the data base. Requirement: having worked in Oregon radio in any on-air position, at any station, for any amount of time. Paul, you can thank me later. Wannabe

Sorry, Wannabe...using your criteria, just one station we are both familiar with would take weeks!

Paul, maybe a number of old jocks could contribute as researchers to help you. I can think of a handful of guys who, if they all contributed, could probably name about 75% of the fulltimers,at various stations, then once this thing got rolling, others could fill in the missing slots. You could have a working page online where folks could just sign in. Include air name, real name, shift, year, month, comments, etc. And whatever else, plus hot links to other websites. Don't you think that would be fun. Or maybe somebody else, who has gotten out, but missed the biz could take on such a project. He/She could start with the mid-valley, KGAL 1970. Who was the morning guy? and so on. Yeah, that's the ticket! A class project.

We should have our own version of 440 International which would cover the top deejays and newsmen of the northwest from years past. Many became quite famous you know.

Hey guys, in this business, two years experience makes one "old". So, there would be lost of qualifiers.

Unfortunately, it is for the "wrong" Vancouver, but, since it has not been mentioned in this thread, please take a look at http://www.vancouverbroadcasters.com as a model of what you might want to do. Gord Lansdell is a pretty good historian, which is what you need or you spend your life arguing about several people's differing memories of exactly what dates someone was at a station, or even what station in bad cases, like Larry Lujack being at KOL, which I believe is an error still listed on 440.com.

As for me, I'm finally retiring (Jan. 5th is my last day of work), so I hope to get time to finally do something non-trivial with http://www.djtribute.com and its sister site, http://www.radiotribute.com.

Speaking of NW jocks, Ron Ugly Thompson has entered the building via the Portland Radio History door.

Tigrr, welcome to this fantastic radio board. Keep logging on and you won't be dissapointed. PDXradio, (on the radio side), is the best account of Portland radio history anywhere on the web. And you can thank teen radio legend (KNHC Seattle, and later Eugene and Portland), Dan Packard for starting and continueing this great website.
