My response, in part, below.

Andrew
-------------

Dear President Ahmadinejad,

Thank you for your recent effort to reach out to the American people. Our two countries desperately need to talk and your effort is a good start. But you must understand that many Americans will doubt your sincerity when you say, "Our nation has always extended its hand of friendship to all other nations of the world." Just as your citizens will never forget the American and British governments' roles in 1953 coup that toppled Mosaddeq's government and brought the Shah to power, Americans can never forget Iran's illegal seizure of America's embassy in November, 1979 and its holding of American diplomats for 444 days, in clear violation of international law. And Americans cannot easily forgive Iran's role in the murder of 241 American servicemen in Beirut in 1983 or Iran's role in the 1996 bombing of the Khobar Towers in Saudi Arabia that killed 19 American servicemen.

I urge you, President Ahmadinejad, to acknowledge these crimes and apologize for them. Yes, America too has some apologies to make for past wrongs against the Iranian people, but I urge you to take the first step. One nation must be first. Americans are a very forgiving people. We forgave the Japanese for their attack on Pearl Harbor. I know the Iranian people can forgive America's role for empowering the Shah.

Mockmood's letter sounded like something that Herb would write if he was Iranian.

It did sound a little nutty, didn't it? It certainly wasn't written by someone who had a clue as to how to appeal to the average American!

It's goofy for sure. Almost as if he paid a consultant to write it.

I'm convinced it was just a lark to see what the reaction is.

Wonder if these will continue, like some kind of surreal dialog?

Also would pay to read through his inbox today!
