I was watching the UK Rock Hall of Fame ceremonies (yes, i'm a geek).

Inductees included Led Zepplin, Brian Wilson, and James Brown.

I was struck by the fact that all three were not only in attendance, but accepted thier awards. And Wilson & Brown perfomed!

By all rights, these three should be long gone. As in, dead.

Who else can we add to this noble group?

I recently read Peter Ames Carlin's biography of Brian Wilson, "Catch a Wave." Interesting guy to say the least! I enjoyed the book very much.

I thought there were 4 members of Led Zepplin. Did you know that Jimmy Page played on Donovan and Herman's Hermits?

Rock n ROll keeps you alive, if the other stuff ( drugs and booze ) doesn't get you. It's kind of like a fountain of youth of sorts... it keeps old men at the teenage level..

staying out of small plains helps. WHAT I am amazed about is that there are so few KNOWN rock stars with aids.

Good point, but How many Rock stars have HIV today and have not gone public??? As long as you have MONEY, living with the disease is manageable. Look at Magic Johnson, how many years has it been since he broke the news?? David Bowie admits that he slept with Freddie Mercury on NUMEROUS occasions.EEEEW!! Ive never understood why women are always attracted to these dirty, STD carrying rock stars. On a side note, why in the world would anyone want to marry Pamela Anderson??? She has Hep C which is DEADLY and uncurable!! Is getting to have sex with Pamela Anderson really worth dying over?? Someone should ask Kid Rock that.

Have you SEEN Kid Rock? The trailer park called, they want their village idiot back.

I delivered pizza to the Scorpions once after they had a concert ... and the hotel room was what one expected from them, girls galore in various stages of undress, the guitar player snorting coke off the coffee table (he was so nice, he offered me a line) ... booze and drugs and all that. The guys were real nice and all, but hell I wonder what they all have now, 15 years later? Will there be any more Freddie Mercurys?

Rumor has it, THATS why Kid and Pam got a divorce.
He caught Hep C from her, than threw her out the door. It makes sense, none of them are very bright!

Mayonnaise;

Good points, except - let's say a major or past rock star had it, it's likely he gave it to several people, at least ONE of whom would go public and seek " damages"..

Here's the thing with Freddie Mercury.. Who knows WHEN he got it. back in the 80's, it WAS a death sentence,as there wasn't much doctors could do. Nowadays, it's becommong more like a speed bump in the road. If the Virus doesn't go airborne ( GOD forbid) , I predict that HIV will go the way of Bubonic Plague within 30 years..

actually, the HIV virus is fairly difficult to transmit from person to person. There has to be a direct blood-to-blood transfer, even then the the newly contaminated blood (yours) must re-enter the bloodstream (as opposed to drying up outside your skin) and other conditions must exist. So anything short of a direct injection into the veins (even then, not a sure thing) is more likely to fail in causing a HIV transfer. The problem with HIV is that the circumstances for it to happens occurs often enough that its a matter of time the odds falls in your favor of getting infected. (sharing needles, unprotected sex). If HIV was spread around easily as food posioning, we'd ALL be dead now.

I'm off my HIV educating stump now. Also, I'm not a real doctor, but I sometimes play one on the internet.

As long as we have developing nations with stigmas and stereotypes about safe sex, and rape and torture ... and without the medication, it won't go the way of the Bubonic plague ... it will continue to be an epidemic in places in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

The HIV virus, on average, takes 10-15 years to turn into full-blown AIDS. Once it is in that stage, the average life expectancy is 2-3 years. Freddie Mercury died in 1991, meaning that most likely he contacted it in the mid to late '70s, when NOBODY knew what the hell it was.

I would imagine (and hope) that today's rockstars, and everyone else for that matter, learned something from the 80s. While Skep is right that it is not THAT easy to transmit person-to-person, it DOES happen all too often. Also, the existence of other STD's makes it many many times easier to contact it.

Last night on one of the "entertainment" shows, it was reported that Kid Rock dropped Pamela Anderack because of Borat and Sasha Baron Cohen.

Hey Jealousy.

Oh and the winners here are 1. Herb 2. Joamon and 3. Merkin; for first, getting my point (people surviving despite lifestyle choices) and also coming up with the most correct answers.

Here's another one I just thought of: Jerry Lee Lewis. Both for lifestyle, and also, he's nuts.
