Saw this station mentioned in the November FMedia. At KLSP most of the DJ's are convicted murderers. It gives new meaning to the term "captive audience". KLSP Angola, Louisiana is the only licensed prison station in the nation. KLSP is on the air daily 6am to 2am and uses a Harris AirWave board, two CD players and other studio equipment. KLSP plays an eclectic mix of Bluegrass, Hip-Hop, Golden Oldies, Swamp Pop, Cajun R&R and a Muslim talk show.

Prison officials screen all music for sexual, violent or negative lyrics; Gangsta Rap & Heavy Metal are not played. The station has no telephone, so song requests arrive by prison mail. The night DJ's get paid at the rate of 20c an hour. There's news too, a feed at :55 from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago.

Craig-- Does Dr. Elving mention if they are broadcasting SCA (a.k.a. an "SCService" in his parlance) or not, per chance?

Just curious.

Concept certainly sounds unique tho........not entirely sure of the uniqueness of music format (ever heard KBOO?) but the concept of a murder-convict-run radio station is certainly something I have never heard of until now.............
