If you could only listen to one album for the rest of your life, which album would it be?? So basically this is (in your opinion) the greatest album ever recorded! Lets hear it! (No Greatest hits albums)

I assume K-Tel's "Disco Mania" doesn't count, so it's the CHRIS KNIGHT & MAUREEN MCCORMICK lp (Peter & Marcia Brady). It's available for download if you can get past the cover. http://www.checkthecoolwax.blogspot.com/

Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". Best album ever.

(But I'm pretty sure around the third year mark I'd be pretty sick of it and would want to do my own "you raise the blade, you make the change" proceedure so I think I'd make a real world practical subsitute and pick A Flock of Seagull's "Listen" (their second album) instead. I KNOW I can stand repeated listenings of this. I've grabbed this for long road trips -- even as the only CD. It stays in my car cd player for months. Heck, its even in my player now.

Man... Tough choice.

Rush, "A Show of Hands"

SAGA, "Worlds Apart"

I know those two have never left the monthly playset, so it's a coin toss...

Just re-read the topic. No greatest hits... That kills the Rush title, so it's SAGA, but wait! Forgot the FIXX.

Anyone ever hear "I will", off of "Reach the Beach"?

Aw, crap. There is no way I could ever pick one album, sorry!

'missing's right: it's a moot question to pick just one, as moods change, etc. However, I'll wade-in with three, and in no particular order:

James Brown: "Live At the Apollo"

Elvis Presley: "Live From Hawaii Via Satellite"

Tower Of Power: "Back To Oakland"

Beethoven Symphony No. 3 (Eroica)
- Solti/Chicago S.O.

but an album that could bear a lifetime of repeated listening, and the greatest album ever REALLY ARE two different things.

Now, I'd be really curious to hear Craig Adams answer to this topic's question, and here's why:

Craig and I are pretty good pals, but -in all the years I've known him- I've never heard him express a preference for one artist or style over another. And that's curious because he's SO into Billboard positions, collecting rare discs, tabulating record sales figures, etc. And he's a crackerjack music director as well. So what gives? Is someone like that removed from personal preferences in order to be good at the "cold hard facts"?

Craig....?

Hey Joamon no Van halen or Red Rocker?? Won't you be going through Van Halen withdrawls???
My favorite album of all time is Appetite For Destruction. That album still holds up even today! Love it.
Van Halen- "Self titled" comes in a close second.
On a side note, Is Guns N Roses considered Classic Rock yet???
I sure hope so.

Sammy was second to "Pink Floyd". Can listen to Pink Floyd all day and never get tired of it. Never get tired of Sammy either but gotta say if I had to choose one to listen to forever it would have to be Pink Floyd.

There was a time in which my girlfriend thought that I should be listening to more Genesis...

...because she thought they were a Christian band.

Good thing she was pretty.

I don't care how pretty a woman is, Making you suffer through a Genesis album is CRIMINAL! I would have dumped her for having such poor taste in music. That reminds me of my Room-mate I had in College. He had a huge poster of Phil Collins in the bathroom, right above the toilet. Turns out he was gay. I should have known from his cd collection that contained Erasure, Depeshe Mode, Flock of seaguls ect.

Well, since "The Best Of The Art Of Noise" doesn't count, I would have to be torn between "Come On In" by R.L. Burnside, or "Sgt. Pepper's".

I *HATE* making decisions like this, 'coz I love them both!!!

Chickenjuggler suggested Queen's News of the World.

I don't think I would be able to choose without studying which Queen album I love the most but it probally would be a Queen album.

Queen
Queen II
News of the World
The Game
Its a Kind of Magic

Probally one of those albums

Currently though it would be the new Pepper album.

I'd say Queen II is their most exceptional album. I considered it for my #1. News of the World is more of a fully realized group for me though.

Queen II though - there's nothing like it. It was SO out of the blue. I've said this before here - but - They say that a groups first album takes years to write. ( You know, they've been in a band for a while, worked a lot, didn't pull any punches for the sake of establishing a career ). And that the second album takes about two months.

Queen II was NOT like that. It's like they saved the good stuff for their second album. I mean, come on. It's a sublime concept album. I've heard a few contemporaries cite it as an influence too.

Let's see, which favorite album/CD do I seriously want to burn-out on?

The Beatles "Abbey Road" would be a strong contender. It's a shame all those little snippits of songs on side 2 were never completed. Most of them would be masterpieces.

Steely Dan's "Aja" is another one.

Aw, screw the rules. I would need something like K-Tel's "DiscoMania" to exercise to. Maybe throw in The Who's "Meaty, Beaty, Big & Bouncy" compilation as well.

This maybe a bit embarrassing to admit but for me it's Neil Diamond's "Live At the Greek Theatre" when he was 31 yrs old. The opening string arrangement is still one that I never get tire of. It's a bit of a spiritual album for me too since I was recovering from rheumatic fever as a young teen and played this album as my musical salvation.
