Im sorry but the music on 107.5 is so awful it is not even listenable! The women at my work were checking it out the other day. WE had it on for two hours and finally we could not take it any more. Nothing but Crappy has been artists that nobody wants to hear today. I heard Paula Abduel twice in two hours(nobody should have to suffer through a paula Abduel song, and other artists like Brittney Spears ect. What in the hell are they playing?? I am totally open for a great dance station but I honestly can't imagine this playlist can continue for too much longer because it is truely AWFUL!!! THe variety is poor, and the music is so cheesy its not even listenable. Most people are checking it out than leaving. The format has no statying power. Businesses are listening to Charlie and Movin is a pale product compared to charlie. I have yet to hear any businesses listening to movin, not one. Yet I hear Charlie EVERYWHERE! I can't tell you how many stations have charlie on. EVERYHWERE!

I already mentioned my 29 year old daughter and the auto parts store full of men who listen to Movin'. Now, you can add to the list my 47 year old sister-in-law who listened to Z100 up until about 10 years ago. Her other usual choices are the Country stations and K-Hits. Charlie has done a lot more promotion than Movin'! It's all over the busses for one thing.

The Movin format is like Nails to a Chalkboard! Worst garbage on the radio. Lets take a bunch of Crappy songs and make a station out of it. I feel bad for the jocks that will be working at the station because a new Flavor of the month station will take its place in a year. There is no substance to any of the music, it is all disposable teenie boper crap!

Anything is better than the current mess they have on movin. I tried giving movin a chance. Infact I went to the gym and startted listening, after "its Raining men" By the Weather Girls" came on I turned back to Charlie and haven't listened to Movin ever since.

Yep.

I've heard the same. The wife and daughter both like it (ugh!), it's in the salons and nail places all over.

When I pick them up, I hear movin' on the PA...

Used to hear the Mix, so the change was probably good in that a nice chunk of the listener pool stayed with the station.

Some food for thought...when Charlie first came on the air I wonder what these different places were playing before they discovered them? If comparisons are going to be made, please put some valid information together instead of just saying that "Charlie is here, Charlie is there".

I realize that many don't like it, but to say that a business is playing Charlie instead of another format is like saying that they all drive Fords instead of Chevy's because they don't like the way they sound. If I had a business I most likely would play Charlie or perhaps K 103 or even the smooth jazz as it lends well to being played in the background.

Movin' has some format adjustments that need to be made, and Movin' has a target audience, and whether we agree with the format or not doesn't mean squat. We all have our own favorites. With the attitudes I am seeing here I guess I should have quit when the station I was working at many years ago changed from a AAA to an AC format...the irony...my first song on the new format was...........Billy Jean (cough, hack, spit).

Charlie plays at a lot of business for a few reasons. They probably play the most music per hour than any other station, so less commercials, and quicker commercial breaks. They play good music, and it's music most people know. It's the safest choice to put on to appease the maximum amount of people in your business. That's why it's on everywhere.

Hhhhmmmmm... Men complaining about not liking a female format. Sounds about right.

If they staff it with air talent and work on evolving it into station that matches PDX tastes rather than sticking with the canned playlist, it could do well. But I'm not betting on it.

I'm still shocked, and I do mean shocked, that Mix lasted as long as it did.

IMHO it would have lasted longer given some freedom to evolve it into a great station. They had great DJ's but restrictive and repetitive playlists and a really crappy morning drive show. I think they were afraid that Rock Hits was to much in competition with their other property KUFO and never let it stand on it's own. The two programs were as different as night and day though. I understand the business move to go after a demo that has less competiters but it is sad that the DJ has to suffer as a result.

The day I hear "OTTO" the robot say:

And now for selection "K9" Dogs of war by Pink Floyd followed by selection "U2" Sunday Bloody Sunday by U2.

Is the day I "FLIP" from radio to the IPOD!!!!

I dont think Movin' is all that bad. I check it out every so often and enjoy the songs that where popular back in my high school days... like MC Hammer for example. The music isnt even close to what I listen to anymore, but with all the other stations (except Charlie) playing a bunch of crap anyway, its fun to hear and laugh at the old trendy songs from the early 90's.

Is Movin's sound crummy for anyone else? To me it sounds extremely compressed, mostly midrange and the stereo separation is barely there. I'm getting a strong signal. Reed College's station sounds better to me (now that they've fixed some things!).

Movin' has an audience, and CBS isn't going cheap, they're buying TV. Yeah, I don't like it, but the station isn't pointed in my direction. There are certainly enough women/gay men in this town to keep a station like that going. It CAN'T be good news for Jammin'/Z100. Those stations (and the Buzz) are going to take a hit...

I drove by there the other day and true to form, they were once again obscene. I only had it on for about 2 minutes, the extent of the signal to the east. At one time, they were going to run 70 watts out of the KGON tower. I wonder whatever happened to that.

ok so some think Movin sucks, but from the latest trend the monthlies show that they increased their Cume, Share, and AQH persons to the close to the level they had in July. The TSL was increased by an hour. Granted they didnt necessarily set the world on fire but they are growing, I could care less about the station personally but am interested if they continue to grow in November for the December trend.

I think the movin format is awful, but if Women are listening to it, then thats all that matters.I guess time will tell. I can't get over how good the music is on Charlie! Seriously, We listen to Charlie at my work and Im hearing completely different songs every day. I never hear repeats. Alternative rock, 80's, and even some of the stuff movin is playing. It's a station that everyone can agree on at the office. Movin plays the same crappy songs every day!! Everytime I turn movin on they are playing "whitney "I smoke Crack" Houston. Awful!

Just to wrap this up, KRRC's application was dismissed in 1997 after sitting since 1991. There was also a petition to deny but it was dismissed as moot. For some reason, I thought they had a construction permit. It's still possible they did but information is sketchy at this point. Moving halfway across the dial made it a MAJOR modification so that probably brought people out of the woodwork. 70 watts @ 368 meters would have been a vast improvement!

There is a historical connection: Stonehenge was developed by the guy who was KRRC's CE as a Reed student back in the sixties. (He might still be their CE.)

From ten watts in a basement to building something between Sutro and the Space Needle is impressive, regardless of what one thinks of its aesthetics. I have wondered if its perfect alignment with (and view from) both down SE Belmont and up Broadway was fortuitous.

As for "Movin'," I could do without their "shakin' booties" TV commercial. That schtick was memorably parodied on MTV over twenty years ago ("Look At My Butt!" in sequins on the back of a denim jacket). In a fruitless Google search (no pun intended, but I'm leaving it in) for the name of that ancient video, I discovered that instead of jumping the shark it's apparently became a meme. (Perhaps JTS = meme ... or is it the other way around?)

I'm probably KRRC's most distant listener. I pick them up pretty well in the south part of downtown a couple of floors above the ground. That's a little over five miles. They really do sound better than Movin' FM now that the students are paying attention to the levels. Many students DJ from their iPods and sound better than Movin'!

I love that station. You never know what you'll hear. Ever. Those Reedies are crazy.

I dropped by there in about '98 to look up some arcane paper in the library. Campus hadn't seemed to change much since 1968; there was even an enormous Soviet flag hanging from one of the old halls. (I suspect, considering the year, it was probably ironic... but one wonders.)

A history of KRRC: http://web.reed.edu/reed_magazine/aug2002/features/KRRC
(Curiously skips over the sixties.)

Why/when did they leave 89.3 for the bumpable 107.1? (For KMHD?) So they're now 97.9? ("What's the frequency, Kenneth?")

Im sure plenty of people are checking Movin out because they are NEW! That always happends to NEW stations. The question is will people stick around? My guess is NO WAY JOSE! Have you heard Charlie latey??? I have to agree with Timberfake,The musicon Charlie is so damn good and so on target it is not even funny! I was listening to Charlie today and they went from Playing Audioslave to Eminem to madonna. It worked well, and sounded great. Movin is narrowcasting their format to such a specific person that they will have nobody listening. The variety on Charlie IS HUGE, I've never heard such a big playlist in my life! Every day Im hearing different songs, not the same 10 corny songs that Movin is playing!
Movin needs to lay off the cheese factor, its giving them gas!

Couldn't disagree with you more on Charlie, Beano. Any one of the three artists you listed would probably send me looking for another station. I find, generally, the mash-ups and trainwrecks on Charlie make the station unlistenable. The only time I hear Charlie is in the car -- with 12 FM presets how could I not. (Well, I also hear it when I get my hair cut, but I'm trying to get the hair place to change the station.) When I occasionally land on Charlie in the car it is usually for one song, never more than two.

IMHO, Charlie plays too much crap. Too much rap, hip-hop and rhythmic garbage and other mainstream new music (Britney, Justin, Kelly Clarkson) to consider spending any time with the station.

Oh BTW Joamon, The spots for Moooooovin you're seeing on TV are most likely advertising trades. They aren't paying for them with actual dollars.

Well, it seems my coupla Movin sightings (hearings) were short lived. Revisited the salon, and the food mart and they were not movin at all!

Car radio has not been left on that station for quite a while now either. Flash in the pan maybe?

Salon was playing Charlie. Food mart is a mix of KNRK, KUPL & KKAD, depending on who get's the register.

One other thing, the businesses I've frequented that played KISN are almost all playing K-HITS now. --sorry Stoner, you are still damn cool!

Nobody's listening to Movin, and the only ones defending that station is CBS employees. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that this will be a short lived format. The music is so bad even Merkin had to voice a complaint. It's an insult to all 30 year old women claiming that they love listening to Brittney Spears and "its Raining men". What an absolute JOKE! There is no substance to the music, every artist they play is disposable. How can you have a format with any type longevity when it consists of disposable artists??? I see no point of even hiring dj's when no one is really even sure if this half assed format will even work. This is by far the worst format I have ever heard in my life.

But let's remember a basic principle here...what is disposable to one person may not be to another...let's not let our opinions get in the way of facts.
Here's a point to ponder...if your a conservative and you disagree with the viewpoint of those expressed on a liberal radio station...does it make it disposable?

Growing up I didn't like what we called elevator music or also known as beautiful music...but I didn't gripe that it was a dead format, or disposable...I just listened and enjoyed what I liked and I hope you do as well.

Part of the reason why radio exists is to serve the publics interest. Whether you or I enjoy a format is of no importance. Management at CBS saw a niche that wasn't filled and they filled it in this highly competitive world of radio. Is it going to work, I don't know. Is it narrow, probably no more narrow than conservative or liberal talk radio, or music of your life formats, etc. It's one thing to express one's opinion but this thread has been going for way toooooooooooooo long. Let's talk about things that are truly important for our line of business which will insure that we all have a job to come to in the future.
