Will it be a true Van Halen re-union without Michael Anthony?

Is Diamond Dave's voice not capable of the quality the fans deserve for a concert tour?

Is Eddie's ego to big to ever get over himself?

I think it will be a real shame to get back together for a re-union tour and have one member missing and another not up to par.

I guess Eddie was mad enough at Michael that he played with Sammy as the other half that he gave him the boot.

I love vintage and new Van Halen but would only go to the concert if 1.) They only played Daimond Dave Van Halen and stay away from the Hagar Tunes....but I am sure Eddie won't go there anyway as they parted on such GOOD terms. 2.) It gets good reviews in that Dave is able to be at least 90% of his former glory and Wolfgang holds up the Bass end of the band. Still won't be the same without Michaels Jack Daniels Bass Guitar blasting out the Bass.

This all goes back to a previous thread I started a while back:
Can't remember the exact title but is was something like : "Should supergroups continue to tour with missing members"?

There were very mixed opinions on this. Examples were Journey without Steve Perry....Queen without Freddie Mercury....etc. etc.

What do you think about Van Halen without Michael Anthony not there just because Eddie's big ass ego won't let him?

I think Sammy and Michael should go out on tour and do the Hagar Other Half Concert Tour just to Spite them!!!

Battle of the Bands......Sammy's voice is defineately better than Dave's by far at this stage. Seeing as how I am more a Sammy fan I would go to the other half concert over the Edward Van Halen tour...!!!

Hagar was a much better singer than Diamond Dave.
Hearing Diamond Dave sing Van hagar tunes would sound really weird. I just can't see Diamond Dave singing "love walks in" LOL.

Hasnt this been done a couple years ago? I seem to remember a MTV show where they all showed up on stage announced that they were back together then shortly after Eddie kicked Dave out of the band again.

Eddie is a guitar wizard but a complete ass.

what they need to do is have rockstar van halen next season.

I am sure they will get together then there will be a big blowout with Dave again. I really don't think Dave has it in him anymore to put out that type of energy and voice....at least not without a digital band-aid to augment it!

I don't know, I want it to work but I listen to track's off of Diamond Dave CD and his voice just sound's strained.....can he hold up to night after night on a tour...I really don't think it will be up to the Van Halen of the past quality.....Hell it won't happen anyway because Eddie will blow a lid...or smoke one...then get pissed at Dave and self destruct anyway.

Heck this whole stunt is probably just a publicity gimmick to setup for some digitally re-mastered album with Wolfgang bass track's replacing Michael Anthony's. Hit the headlines...get people all excited...blow it up...release a new bone to the public with the new guy!!!

I could totally go for a new Van halen album with sammy or Diamond Dave. Van halen continues to hold up and rock, and they are a million times better than most of the CRAP in rock today(if you even call it rock) Van halen kick ass, always has, always will!

I agree to a certain extent. There comes a point in time where trying to continue can actually do more harm than good. I would hate to see Van Halen self destruct in the middle of a concert tour because of Eddie's ego of Diamond Dave's voice just giving out. I would rather remember them as one of the classic rock bands that helped define the best generation of rock music that ever was or ever will be! IMHO of course.

Van halen continued to put out great albums. Even the last full length album they put out was suprisingly good!
Most older bands try to stay relevent and put out crappy new material cough* The Rolling stones, But for some reason I think Van Halen Still has a few more good albums in them.
Just my 2 cents

I guess it's official....Michael Anthony is out of the band because of his touring with Sammy as the Other Half.......pretty petty of Eddie if you ask me.....I guess if you're a musician in his band you can't keep playing while the band is on leave.

But no word yet on the lead though!!!!!! Think maybe has some cousin in the Wings waiting to unveil him?

Eddie Van Halen is an egotistical ass! His wife left him and now his bandmates can't stand him. I think the booze and drugs have fried his brain.

I don't know what caused it, but yes, people are really getting sick of what looks like Eddie being a royal asshole.

At least, I know I am. He is ruining a great legacy. Killing it. I mean, to kick out Anthony, just because he didn't show enough loyalty ( although I bet there is more to the story - but probably not enought to make me to a one-eighty ) is transparently pathetic.

I can understand kicking DLR out - he was an ass who burned that bridge like no other. I can understand asking Sammy to leave, if you're trying to clean up your act and Sammy wanted no part of that.

But Michael Anthony?!? He has been there since day one man! What's next, brother Alex is off the drums? Eddie, the one-man band?

Chill out man. You are one of the greatest bands of all-time, and you keep f***ing up a good thing. Settle down already!

Maybe the cancer treatments made Eddie more of an ass.

I do not beleive I will go to any more concerts that have been cobbled back together with new members.

Calrify that: New members I can accept but new singers are not an option typically! Only exception I can really think of was Van Halen when Sammy joned up. He is an awesome singer but still it was a different sound than traditional Van Halen.

Queen
Journey
STYX

Just tot name a few.

They are just not the same without the "VOICE" that made them what they are!

Yeah I've seen Styx twice, once with Dennis DeYoung back in 1991 and a few years later without him (though they DID have Tommy Shaw, James Young and Chuck Panozzo) ... and it wasn't the same without Dennis. The other singer was decent and did a good job, but my God it wasn't Dennis! It's like Journey without Steve Perry, just something fundamentally wrong here.

I think they cheapen the name by doing so. Esecially QUEEN. I'm sorry but Paul Rogers may be a good singer but not in that position with that particular group.

And you are dead on about Journey....saw them this year with Jeff Scott Soto and while he is a good singer it is just not Journey without Perry!

Yeah, it's like Guns n Roses without Slash, Duff, or Izzy. Axle really should swallow his pride, apologize to the other guys, and reclaim rock n roll. The current GNR sounds like a low level tribute band!

And you guys thought Eddie Van Halen Was an egotistical Asshole.
AXEL Rose takes the cake for the biggest A HOLE around, I don't blame Slash and Duff for leaving that A HOLE! And by the way, the fact that Axel can still use the name Guns N Roses for His new HALF ASSED band should not be allowed! Guns N Roses died the day Slash Left! So any talk of this new Guns N roses is laughable!

I would Have Killed to have gone to a guns N roses Concert back in the day! If you ever get a chance to see the video for the song "estranged" check it out. Its a great Video, and one of the most expensive video's ever made, which was a big reason why the band broke up.

Beano - I saw them and Metallica together back in 1991, and when Axl is on, they put on one hell of a show.

The problem was, all too often Axl was in a-hole mode. I'm just glad he found that night to his liking.

Guns N Roses was my favorite group for a while. I saw them up at the Tacoma Dome with Skid Row, and also saw them with Metallica, another one of my favorite bands. It's too bad they couldn't keep it together, they could have done more.

I agree pete, BUT Look at where Metallica is today! They continue to put out albums and they are AWFUL! St Anger is one of the worst albums ever recorded! Maybe its a good thing that Guns N roses broke up while they were on top. Its like the Rolling Stones who continue to put out new albums and they are awful(in my opinion)
Guns n roses broke up when they were at the peak of their career.

You guys remember the crazy concerts of the eightie's? The night before tickets went on sale partying in line to buy them! The huge amount of girl groupies that were always there all decked out in clothes there mothers did know they owned! Those were the days!!!

Are those concerts a thing of the past? Do you think concerts of the future will be like the ones they have started do live satellite simulcast at local area theatres and not actually visit every city in person? Or even worse....pay-per-view. That would really cheapen the intrinsic value of the whole experience of it.

EDIT ADD:
In answer to the first part of my own post. I remember all of the concerts I went to....sometimes not all of the concert and most of the time no idea on how I got home! LOL

Yup I remember those days, and they were awesome! I do miss the big arena rock shows of the 80's. Although the Grunge movement in the early 90's was very much needed, I would still take Guns N roses and Van Halen over Pearl Jam and Nirvana. While I do enjoy Nirvana, i think they are a bit overrated.

I can't stand Nirvana. Never saw anything in their music.

I too miss the huge arena shows of the '80s ... I will never forget my first concert, seeing AC/DC, Who Made Who tour back when I was 13. Good times indeed (though my mother sure didn't think so!)

I think the most insane concert I attended back then was "JUDAS PRIEST" Defenders of the Faith tour! That was just plain loud and louder!

Really cool when the lights went down then all you heard was silence for a moment....then....all you heard was "HARLEY"....mic strapped to the exhaust as the mammoth claw of the MATALLION lifted and Rob Halford drove it out on the stage!

Nirvana BLOWS CHUNKS! WAAAAAAAAY Overrated band. I wonder If Kurt Cobain never blew his brains out, would they still be that memorable today. I had friends who were really into Guns N Roses, and hated Nirvana, but for some reason after Kurt killed himself they suddenly LOVED Nirvana. Although the late 80's rock started to get really Cheesy, i never really enjoyed the grunge movement.
I hated Alice in Chains and never unnderstood the appeal of that band. "down in a hole, feeling so low" SHUT UP! Why would I want to sit and listen to music that makes me feel depressed? There are enough things going on in this country to make a person feel depressed, music shouldn't add to it. Hell, I think I would rather listen to "cherry Pie" By Warrent than have to suffer through "smells like teen spirit".

Once the supergroups started breaking up and going there "Seperate Ways" (little journey for ya) the era of truly great arena/stadium concerts pretty much went downhill fast. I guess that era is pretty much just history now as the new concerts are gravitating towards theatre simulcasts, pay-per-view cable, or streaming on-line concerts.....all of which pale by comparison to the classic arena concerts!

Been reminissing of late...just bought the DVD VAN HALEN "Live Without a Net". Think it was there only live concert ever taped.

Ahhhh...the memories that brought back!

I could almost smell the booze and the leafy green tobacco!

Would it not be really cool for Daimond Dave to call out Eddie and tell him:

"We started this group with Michael Anthony so without him on BASS you can count me out as well."

That would just cook Eddie would it not. But DANG.....That would be incredible if Diamond Dave did that! After all Michael did start with them, he ain't dead, so it's only right that he get to finish it!

I can see the tour name already...Remember Queen with Paul Rogers....

VAN HALEN with David Lee Roth!
