Seems we've already got a bill in play that could put habius corpus back in place.

Americans or not, terrorists or not, the right of habius corpus has it's foundations in common law, drafted long before America was founded and our Constitution ratified.

For anyone yelling, "but you must want the terrorists to win", remember Nuremburg. Despite solid guilt, we held the trials we would hold for our own, showed the world that we meant business and that our rule of law, supporting our freedom, was not to be tainted for any reason, no matter how defensible.

It is these kinds of behaviors that put us in the leadership position where democracy, equality and freedom are concerned. Much of the developed and developing world has us to thank for bringing this enlightenment to the sphere of governance.

It's sad to see Bush so completely ignorant of these elementary things that not only make us who we are, but show the world what we can be. This bill is a damn fine start toward putting those ideals back in the drivers seat.

I want to combat terror, but at the end of the day, I also want being an American to mean what it did before this whole mess. To allow otherwise is a clear and easy victory for those who would use terror for change.

Yeah, I know serious tone. But, it's these kinds of things that sometimes keep me up at night from worry. Either way, I'll worry about terror, must I also worry about these things too?
