...just for a moment;

Who, on the other side of the political aisle from where you regularly sit, do you like? Perhaps even admire. Whom do you think is funny enough to listen to or think is creative and would consider worthy of indulging?

Who makes the strongest case against what you believe?

Though I consider myself a fiscal conservative, and side with the GOP on a lot of issues, many of the issues discussed in here I seem to be along with the masses.

Chris Taylor does a fantastic job of offering another viewpoint of the Bible, offering it for what it is, a historical viewpoint and not the true-to-God fact. It gives us a blueprint on how we should live our lives, but it doesn't give us carte blanche to hate and discriminate against others.

Mrs. M is just freakin' hilarious.

I find most of the posters, Missing KSKD and Skeptical and the like mostly respective ... and when they aren't, they have every right not to be IMHO. Trixter seems to be a lot like me, a Republican who is fed up with the right turn of his party.

I've a vote for Chris on Religion and another for Deane on political matters. Both of them have made me think hard more than once!

This question was a good one. Take Brianl, for example. I'm not sure we have that many differences in terms of what we value, though we are members of different parties.

This board would not be what it is without Dono and Mrs M cracking me up on a regular basis!

If you want to actually tackle an issue straight up, pretty or not, it's Wayne. Like Jesus kicking the money-changers out of the temple, Wayne's not always diplomatic and not lukewarm. You know where he stands.

Besides, this isn't about being a popularity contest. In fact, the more one is popular, the more likely they are to be pleasing man and not God.

"If the people of this world hate you, just remember that they hated me first. If you belonged to the world, its people would love you. But you don’t belong to the world. I have chosen you to leave the world behind, and that is why its people hate you." (John 15:18-19)

"Brothers and sisters, do not be surprised when the people of the world hate you." (1 John 3:13)

"The people of the world will hate you because you belong to me, for they don’t know God who sent me." (John 15:21)

"“When you are reviled and persecuted and lied about because you are my followers—wonderful!" (Matthew 5:11)

"The apostles left the meeting full of joy because they were given the honor of suffering disgrace for Jesus." (Acts 5:41)

"If you are insulted for bearing Christ’s name, blessed are you, for on you rests the Spirit of God, the Spirit of glory...but if any one of you should suffer for being a Christian, then there must be no shame but thanksgiving to God for bearing this name." " (1 Peter 4:14,16)

"No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

"He thought that it was better to suffer for the promised Christ than to own all the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking forward to the great reward that God would give him." (Hebrews 11:26)

"Wayne's not always diplomatic and not lukewarm. You know where he stands."

No I don't ... because he is constantly contradicting himself.

I don't mind not diplomatic and not lukewarm at all, don't get me wrong. What I DO mind is the (lack of) tact involved. When you are asked a question, answer it. Don't beat around the bush, just answer the damn question. Don't give a "Well if it means __________, then _______ but if it means _________ then ________ to a question, just answer the damn question yes or no.

SORRY - sorry - I completely understand why everyone is listing people from in here. I wasn't talking about people who participate here. I'm talking about columnists, pundits, comedians, authors, talk hosts, CNN or FOX editorializers.

The question arose when I was trying to think of one Conservative that makes me laugh. Dennis Miller was the only one I could think of. PJ O Rourke doesn't do it for me.

But it doesn't have to be about comedy either. Maybe Lou Dobbs makes sense to some on the right - or left.

So anyway, yeah. Not people in here. Although it can be that too I suppose.

Ohhhhh now I get it.

Bill Maher is one that comes to mind for me. He leans a bunch to the left but is articulate about his points, funny as hell ... it's like he is funny but doesn't TRY to be.

Dennis Miller grates on me. His huge vocabulary is all fine and dandy but he comes across to me as very smarmy and holier than thou. That just doesn't do it for me.

I am also a HUGE George Carlin fan. I would love to sit down with him and see how he REALLY feels, he bashes each side pretty even ... he started out a show in the '80s with "I haven't seen this many people in one place at one time since they took the group photograph of all the criminals and lawbreakers in the Ronald Reagan administration" ... yet he loved to bash Clinton in the 90s. He's opinionated and brilliant, I just wonder what he REALLY thinks.

Dennis Miller used to be more funny.

Bill Maher, to me, used to make me feel like Dennis Miller makes you feel Brian. So I hear ya. I don't know where or when the crossover took place for me - but I do know that it had nothing to do with content. It was just their styles that irked me.

Now I like Bill and less so Dennis. Yeah, we are on first named basis with each other.

Dennis Miller is a Class A hypocrite.

And as for Wayne, he wades in ignorance, and so does anyone that attempts to defend him.

I'm gonna go with OReilly.

Yeah, I know he's a first class hack and a buffoon to boot.

It's all on style baby! Orielly is the very best of the chest thumpers. If you don't agree, SHUT UP! OK? Real Americans don't engage in those petty things. We are in a time of war, ok?

That means the left has got to suck it up and play ball here. While they are squabbling about civil liberties, we really don't need, da terrorists are out there, right now, planning their next attack. Ok?

That's combat either here or there. Now I don't know about you, but I would much rather fight them there than here. Makes sense right?

I've seen combat. It ain't pretty folks.

Love that guy --really do. He's a classic.

Since a lot of what the right is all about right now is lies, manupulations and distortions, I'd have to be an Oreilly because he does it very well.

Sorry real republicans, I don't see many stepping up to the plate right now to admire.

For me it was the gal that used to cut my hair for 16 years.

During those years, especially the last 3-4, I would travel out to her house in Ridgefield WA and spend a good hour and half getting a hair cut and talking politics and religion and our families. Sometimes my time would go longer because our conversation was so rich.

We were vastly different in our views. However there was deep respect and even a caring/love with someone whom I disagreed. The fact that she had sharp cutting tools in her hands circling my head may have had something to do with it too.

We would share books with each other that had made a difference in our lives and even though we never convinced the other to changed their mind we could find some common ground known as respect. We were Christians and often prayed for each other.

I am flattered to know that some of you find my postings helpful. I try and write for the entire board and not just one person. Knowing that there are many who “lurk” and don’t respond I want to respect them as well.

For those whom I disagree with, and who call themselves Christians like myself, I feel their faith is sincere, that they really feel called by God to share what they share.

What bothers me are the sometimes sweeping generalities that “all” Christians are this way, or that “all” leftists and righties” are this way. Since I choose not to listen to talk radio I have chosen to find some kind of middle ground information center like www.sojo.net. It offers me news of the day and the spiritual commentary I desire.

Dennis Miller has ALWAYS been one of the most UNfunny people on planet Earth. And he is probably one of the WORST actors since Madonna.
