"I'll take you home again, Kathleen..."

Star Trek? I wouldn't touch this thread with a ten foot pole. Oops, I guess I already did.

Aren't there any active Star Trek threads someplace that, um, you might want to visit?

(let's see...601 posts in 38 days. That's an average-per-day of 15.8 posts, if my math is right.... but who's counting?!)

Channel 49 is broadcasting Star Trek on the Weekends. The old Enterprise is replaced with a CGI model. Also some of the cheesy special effects are replaced with new visuals.

How many times did Dr. Mccoy say "He's dead Jim"?That is a question I still don't know the answer to.

IMHO, they are not the same.

The car thread is the differentiator.

Hey DD, what do you think of the remastering?

I'm not sure I want to watch it just yet. I really like the old shows just how they are.

Since we are on a trek thread, I've always loved the music! Great stuff. Bold, daring and in your face tunes that complement the video drama perfectly. Actually the sounds in general are excellent! They make the series for me.

OK. Get it. No more cheeseball threads. And no I am not that other person. Sorry for trying to lighten the doom and gloom just a little.

We now return to the regularly scheduled forum.

John

PS
Thought this thread was bad idea but when I went to delete there were already posts to it. Trying to get all posts removed usually does not work.

"TV Land" is BUTCHERING-UP the old Star Trek's!! It's APPALLING!!! Whole scenes cut out! The more I watch, the more Pissed off I get!!! Spot breaks take forever! I've even seen them cut to a break in the middle of a scene!

The new CGI Enterprise looks like a CGI Image. The old Enterprise is better. However I do think some of the modifications are an improvement. For example, in Mudd's Women, the android who takes over the Enterprise shows us his electronic inards. The new visual is a lot more impressive.

The reruns on Channel 49 are also horribly butchered.

FYI...
"I Mudd" is the episode you are refferring to. Mudd's women....which was just on....is with the three women and the miners.

Did not pay to much attention as I was half asleep but any tampering is a travesty just as replacing the older Anakin with the younger acter in STAR WARS III was not right....I mean why not the younger Ben Kenobi as well??

It's "I Mudd."

The space station on "Trouble with Tribbles" is replaced with a new CGI model.

Pay close attention to the modifications this weekend to the Star Trek reuns on Channel 49.There are no special effects changes on the TVLand reruns.

Original question:
1) Kirsty Alley
2) Kim Catrell (sp?)
This post kinda fits here as the series covered a lot of political stuff.

At 10 PM tonight, channel 49 (KPDX) will broadcast a digitally remastered episode of "Space Seed." That is the one with Ricardo Montalban as Khan. Pay close attention. You will see a new CGI Enterprise and a new Botany Bay (Khan's ship).

Watch the digitally remastered Menagerie, Part 1 tonight at 10 PM, Channel 49, (KPDX). There is a new CGI of the shuttlecraft and the starbase. Part 2 was on yesterday.

'Tis good to see the "original" (in some way or other) Star Trek on TV again.....don't have cable, and haven't really seen it since it was on channel 12 in the late '80s.

CGI enterprise is kinda cool-looking I think, if a bit anachronistic......I do kind-of miss the old, campy shots where you could see the string the ship was hanging from.............

That and there's probably one other thing I would change in a heartbeat: the simulated-stereo soundtrack is a bit annoying, even more so listening through headphones. (I usually have to kick my VCR's sound setting down into "MONO" to make it sound like Gene, as well as the NTSC circa 1960s, had all intended it to be heard!)

But it was fun to see "Trouble with Tribbles" a month ago for the first time in, I would say, about 15 years even if it was a cut version (even if merely for the sake of saying "I finally saw it again!") That one has always been my favourite episode.

B.T.W., I am NOT a Trekkie by any means!!

I will say, tho, I do quite enjoy the Star Trek series, overall I do quite miss the older ("unadultrated") versions without the computer effects and remastering. There's something about seeing the dust, hairs and print-scratches in old TV shows that lends them charm........

See, there are some things that just should be left well alone! (Didn't the industry learn that with the mess they made out of Star Wars, circa 1995??)

And after the Gilligans island series was done with it's run they should not have came back in later with the poorly written Movies later on. It did not ruin the original series for me but I thought the movies just ridiculous! Should have left it alone!
