Iris my thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy and full recovery. Miss hearing you on the air as I am sure others do as well. Portland radio is just not be the same without you so get well and hurry back!

We Miss You!

I don't know why this one struck me - but maybe someone could give an occasional update as they deem appropriate?

Thanks in advance.

I should take this opportunity to say that Iris is the most awesome person that has ever walked on this planet. She just might be my favorite person in the world.

Needless to say, I am hoping for the best.

I have never met her but have heard great things about her. As a radio vet I have been involved with the relay for life both in and around the Eugene area for years now. I co founded the relay in Florence,Or. and have a six year history now with Eugene's relay for life helping raise millions of dollars.I have put together several benifit concerts with local musicians to raise monies and awarness and help start the Muiscians Emergency Relief Fund. I would encourage all radio people to get involved somehow! Not only for Iris but for everyone we all know who has cancer. All of us know someone how has it!
My thoughts are with you Iris and for the countless others who also suffer from it. Judging from the posts here you are surrounded by love from many friends, please count me as one more. I look forward to meeting you one day! Lonny

Iris Harrison is a blessing I've had in my life for 3 years now. She is a friend, a great mother, and a reason to have optimism about human goodness (which is rare now days). I spoke with her last night, and she will return cancer free in January. I wish you the best Iris, 50 more years here, you promised!!!!! I love you!!!!! Greg

I heard that as well today!

I was thinking today that I spend more time with Iris (and Gloria) each day than I do with Mr. Merkin!

Especially when I was working, but also in the last year since Baby M. arrived, we have the radio or music on all day, and we ususally don't get out of the house before late morning.

It's like she's part of the family. And no back-talk, either! And she's always smiling, you can hear it in her voice.

I must say that this post is the sweetest thing I could have ever imagined. The messages are the best medicine around. I'm mending and will be back on the air Jan 2. I'm being good (boy, sometimes that is so hard) and following all the instructions that the doctors have given me and am very excited to return to my other home, KGON.

Gloria Johnson is so wonderful and amazing and absolutely the best and I thank her so much for filling in during my absence.

I didn't say anything about the diagnosis on the air before the surgery because everything happened so fast. I was trying to tie up loose ends and do office things, and then at some point it was just overwhelming, and before I knew it I was in surgery.

I'm so happy to say now that I'm a cancer survivor. I watched my Dad go through years battling the big "C" and knew I had this path to walk, but with all the positive energy from my family, friends, co-workers, and listeners, I've been feeling better every day.

A big thank you to the team at Providence.

Bless you ALL!

Iris

Iris, you have always been the closest thing I have to a sister, and my love and support is always there for you. Now get out of bed and fix me some coffee, I believe the KVAN Monomaniacs and singing X Mas Carols down your street right now. B.A.

Congrats Iris!

The big C is ugly. Glad to know you are through it and on to living your life and doing what you love. Being back, on the air, will inspire others struggling with the same thing.

Iris --
Still have one teenager to raise (Joe started Middle school this year)... could use your prayers for those years:-)
Since no one on this board cares to hear the details of my grown kids, I'll catch you up when I see you ... but I'll say here that they are both doing really well and still live in Oregon.
Can hardly wait to see you again!

To Iris:
How is it that we have both been in the business in this city for so long and we've never really known each other? My loss. But, as someone who has been very ill and then been able to experience the joy of returning to the air, I couldn't be happier for you. My best to you.

To Karen: Having been there when Joe was born, (not in the delivery room, of course), it's good to hear that he and you are doing well.

Thanks everyone. It's great to be back, it's great to be a cancer survivor, and like Warren Zevon said "enjoy every sandwich."

Craig, I had the honor of being in the bowling lane next to you at a big radio event years ago, and boy, could you ever make those pins fly! Are you great at EVERYTHING you do? I guess because we worked at different stations and for different companies we never had the opportunity to really know each other, but I sure did listen. You and everyone at KGW owned the audience Portland when I got to town. Through this journey of mine, you and Michael Bailey have been on my mind, knowing what you both went through, and that has brought me a lot of strength and hope. Thank you!

Going back to work was like going home. The funniest thing that happened on my return is that I forgot the request line number! Where is that brain of mine??

Ya....and if my ears did not play tricks on me you took to requests at the same time for the same letter didn't you?

No worries though....GLAD YOU ARE BACK!

You have way to much fun on that program you know!!!!! You know it's against corporate policy to have fun on the job right???

I think it is great when a jock makes a mistake, trips on his/ her words, infact I encourage it, THAT WAY WE KNOW WE ARE LISTENING TO A LIVE HUMAN BEING, not a computer.Humans make mistakes, so it should be normal to hear a cough, burp, fart, ect. I miss the days where I could turn on the radio and hear a jock hack a lung as he is talking up the ramp of a Mister Mister song.
