That's what the Dutch want to do.

Personally, I'm offended by the burqa. I don't like to see people in public with their face covered, because when you can't see someone's face, there's a lot of mystery.

HA - Yeah. And mystery is bad. Leads to wire-tapping. But that is good.

Since when do libs/demos think they can control what someone wears? If someone wants to wear a Burqa or a thong, thats their option.

Most people opt for something in between.

Try wearing a ski mask on MAX and see what people's reactions are. Better yet, walk into a bank with one on. And I doubt the libs are the one's proposing this.

Here's a question for you pete, what about those neoCONs and their popular blindfold headgear. Should we continue to let them wear em or should public use of blindfolds be banned (exceptions can be made for firing squad targets)?

An interesting point brought up here is that in Western culture, it is assumed that people who cover themselves with a burqa or ski mask are doing so to gain anonymity, and that it is reasonable to assume that people who want to be anonymous want the anonymity in order to get away with doing reprehensible things.

What is a surprise to me is the culturally motivated anti-immigrant backlash that is occurring in Western Europe today. This paints a very different picture of those Western Euorpean countries than what I had long believed to be true. It is a bit goofy that some of the Dutch want to force immigrants to watch a video with gays kissing and topless women, presumably to scare away religious fundamentalists.

I just voted on the "would you support a ban on burqas and other face-covering clothing" poll, and the results are:

Yes--79%
No--17%
Not Sure--4%

I voted no. I'm surprised that people hate these damn things so much. I think that the right to wear these things is just like the right to wear body jewelry, mohawks, tattoos, rainbow afro wigs, or stiletto heels.

Sorry, I just like to see someone's face. I consider it a security issue.

I wish the hat thingys with eye holes that were referred to as "ski masks" could be called something else. Nobody has worn one of those things skiing for 40 years.

You'd be a supreme dork wearing one. Do ski shops sell them? No. Not for the last 30 years.

Maybe snowmobilers wear them them, but skiing? No.

Why does a company continue to manufacture and/or import them if all they are ever used for is committing crimes? Maybe those should be outlawed, just for the nerdy-ness of them

Do they wear them in Frostbite Falls. MN when it's -20 degrees? I never saw anyone (even the dorks) in Utah, Montana or Wyoming wear one, and it gets pretty darn cold there.

Does anyone here own one? What do you do with it? Where does one buy one? WartMal?

Nobody wore them 15 years ago when I lived in Deadwood, South Dakota ... even in five feet of snow and -30 temperatures. Nope, we just wore scarves and bundled up a couple of extra layers and called it good.

I have never seen anybody wearing one, but Amazon has a bunch for sale... especially fetching is this "spiderman" version:
