Absolutely fascinating. I don't care that he was a Republican and more than a little in the closet. I don't care. But to see a scandal dissected like that, and to have the star himself grant access was absolutely amazing. It should be considered for an Emmy. ( If they have categories for stuff like that one ).

I missed it. Since I've cut back on my TV watching (won't even look in the TV guide), I know I've been missing some good PBS stuff.

"Absolutely fascinating. I don't care that he was a Republican and more than a little in the closet. I don't care. But to see a scandal dissected like that, and to have the star himself grant access was absolutely amazing." Being from Spokane and having my family up there still, I followed the whole Jim West fiasco very closely. What is sad is, the Spokesman-Review took it upon themselves to out West with actions ... well I don't know if they are legal, but they ARE shady. I'm sorry, it is the job of the local paper (or news station, or radio news) to REPORT the news, NOT CREATE IT. His past "transgressions" were strictly heresy, and seeking sexual contacts with guys OVER 18 isn't illegal. Yes, he used poor judgement in using the office computer to do so. Bill Clinton used poor judgement receiving a hummer from an intern under the Oval Office desk, but it still happened. The S-R witch hunt completely ruined a man, and created a feeding frenzy the ultra-conservative Spokane public bought into hook line and sinker. I don't agree with West about the fact that when in the Washington State legislature, he was one of the most vocal opponents of any gay rights. He toed the GOP party line there to the end. That said, I hope the Cowles family can sleep at night knowing what kind of Draconian reporting they did.

Oh, THAT Jim West... Well, I don't really see it as a witch hunt. I see it as people being held accountable for their actions as a public servant. I have no problem with the fact that he is gay, what I do have a problem with is the "do as I say, not as I do" activities of people in power. I don't like to see people's lives ruined, but at the same time, I don't like to see people like Jim West preaching something he himself doesn't practice. The hypocrisy of the Ted Haggards, Mark Foleys, and Jim Wests of the world is quite disturbing. Can you believe anything anyone says anymore?
