Justin Timber-fake wrote: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it! KGON continues to KICK kufo's ass especially in men 25-54, so why change???" Because it's not true. In the last four book average the stations are tied A25-54: KGON-FM Classic Rock 4,700 0.9% 91,800 KUFO-FM Rock 4,700 0.9% 73,100 * same Avepers, Averat, less cume for KUFO meaning still more turnover. A18-49 KUFO is ahead and by a lot. KUFO-FM Rock 6,300 1.1% 96,200 KGON-FM Classic Rock 4,900 0.9% 89,500 This is a fun site to check out and I've enjoyed a lot of the post. But one thing to keep in mind is that NO ONE buys 12+. Any of the plus demos with the exception of 35+ are irrelevant in today’s radio world. Important demos are in order (strictly my opinion on order): A25-54 W25-54 A18-49 W18-49 A18-34 W18-34 M25-54 As a classic rock fan I can tell you KGON is losing ground to KUFO simply because it's audience is aging. And also because unfortunately Classic Rocks that ROCKS has died. It's way to soft for rock lovers and many guys are seeing out the younger stations for some real rock. Just like the 80's brought us Classic Rock, the 90's brought us AAA, and now we have Charlie, Jack, and Bob. I think radio will continue to evolve as we all get older. And formats will mutate into new hybrids of the old stuff as in the end you have to be able to sell your stations audience to the big media buyers first, then to local media buyers and lastly to local direct clients that fit the station.

Agreed some music KGON plays is getting a little aged but they have an awesome group of people and good enough play lists to keep me as a loyal listener! They also have NRK after all for the really new stuff if need be to compete with KUFO. But isn't the money target at age 25+ for advertisers? I mean seriously a LOTUS for example is for sure not aimed at the less than 25 DEMO but is more for the middle aged listeners that have the funds for the big ticket items. I think KGON just needs to stay the course and stick with what works, after all this time KGON is still KGON and remains ROCK solid. You do not see them flipping to a flavor of the month because some stats say it might be good. They can just stay with the current demo and age, drop a year as they pick up a new one. That way they keep the same format and gradually fade out older music while bringing in the new. KGON isn’t broke, don’t need fixing, and with a tune up every 30,000 hours will run like a fine performing CLASSIC ROCK MUSCLE CAR for a long, long time!

I'm curious. If M25-54 is so far down the list, why do you list A25-54 above W25-54? Is this currently or always because under this scenario, AOR would never have happened?

There are more time buys made for either Adults 25-54 or. Women 25-54 than there are for Men 25-54. For the last 12 years KGON has out billed KUFO because of it's dominance in A 25-54. KGON almost always beats KUFO in Men 25-54 as well. 18-34 Men is where KUFO lives.
