On the front page of "The Oregonian" Business section is an article today titled: "Music Millennium Searches For Different Way To Survive - The company president tries sales of used CD's and lifestyle items to counter the Internet and downloading".

The Oregonian is blocking me from posting this story. There is a huge picture of Terry Currier beside one of his many CD racks and rock toys above on the wall.

This story should be a Real wake up call! We in the music field need to support this Music Icon of Portland. My god! We can't let Millennium go! I for one have been waiting for Millennium's HUGE section of Christmas music to be displayed. Should be ready for viewing around Thanksgiving. It usually takes me two hours to go through it all. I always find nuggets Millennium has some how found.

Somebody needs to look up the word "Ironic" which also rhymes with "Chronic" and "Moronic" and "Histrionic".

You are kidding Wayne, aren't you?

You can always legally download songs into your iTunes library from CDs you own.

The problem with the industry is not many people are buying CDs and are just (illegally) swapping content. No profit. No retailer.

Must be my age...but I love going to Music Millennium & walking around (it drives my Wife nuts...very tough to leave)...I SUPPORT Music Millennium and any local merchant I can. These young kids are loosing the experience of the "record store"....Its therapy to me shopping at Powells Books...another great Pdx haunt! This society is becoming a world of folks loosing out on the human experiment...I hope Music Millennium is there for years to come. (Terry will be featured also in the Portland business journal on Friday). See ya on East Burnside record freaks!

I only notice 2 comments from Stoner on the Beatles thread. They are both short and neither pertains to Wayne. He may have overlooked them.

Unfortunately those of us who are old enough to remember Millenium when they were a RECORD store are losing our grip on music that we can hold in our hands. There's no stopping the trend of downloading music whether it's pirating or purchasing legitimately on line. With the advent of Ipods people have no need for bulky Cd's with only 14 or 15 songs on them. I heard a comment from a kid not too long ago that said "Cd's? Who buys Cd's anymore"? And that about sums it up. It's inevitable. I don't like it either but that's the generation I come from. Like I said in another post a while back. I still miss the smell of opening a new vinyl LP and actually being able to see the photos and read the print in a large format!! Face it guys, our way of thinking is growing obsolete :-(

Yep, I'm starting to feel that too.

The real bummer is the loss of full on uncompressed digital audio.

I don't mind digital files, but do mind compression for a lot of tracks. Dynamic range is lost, as are subtle imaging and instrument harmonics.

Plus, the CD for better or worse, is nice and open. Plays most anywhere, can be encoded onto anything running any format or platform. Hard to give that up...

Unless of course you record it yourself!! :-)

You know, that may become an option going forward. If corporate music becomes too restrictive, the DYI scene will only grow.

I'll be happy to record others works though. I've no serious talent in this area.

Wayne's only source for Beatles material and Music trivia is his beloved and tattered copy of Rolling Stone's Book of Rock Lists, so feel free to use it.

Man Crush!!! hahahahaha!

Hi Wayne, I don't think I know that one. I've had SO many Beatle books over the years that I finally got rid of most of them except for the ones that are truly accurate....

Recording the Beatles..by Kevin Ryan/Bryan Kehew

The Beatles Recording Sessions by Mark Lewisohn

The Beatles at the BBC by Mark lewisohn

The Complete Beatles by Mark Lewisohn

The Beatles Anthology by the Beatles

The Beatles Gear by Andy Babiuk

There may be a few more that I'm forgetting since I'm at work but those are the ones that are truly accrurate as reference guides.
Most books about the Beatles had tons of inaccuracies up until about 15 years ago when Beatles fanatic and author Mark Lewisohn set the standard for accuracy.
If you have these books you too can be a Beatles trivia expert!!

Wayne, if you have Itunes installed, you can burn CDs to it very easily.

Hey Wayne, I'm not sure about specific trivia websites. There's been a couple of times that I've put in google "Beatles Trivia" and it gives me lots of options. Most have varying degrees of difficulty for beginners to old timers like me.
A couple of my faves for hardcore fans like me are

www.beatlesource.com/bs/mains/index.html

www.rarebeatles.com

See if you like those...
