I'm good friends with Yogi Berra, but at the same time, I have to say I'm happy that contrary to the drum Herb et al have been beating the last 4 years, Democrats CAN win elections, and ARE winning elections.

It looks like the Dems will take the house and the Republicans will keep the senate. Will the Dems try to impeach Bush?

Well that ends one party rule. Damn, I feel good about that.

Looks like the Dems are still three seats from the Senate however.

Still gains are good. With some good action from the house, people can continue to be encouraged. In '08, a lotta people are going to remember the Bush legacy and the party that helped make it happen.

I fully intend to email my rep and tell him I think impeaching Bush is a bad idea. He's a loser and will be gone in two years, history will judge. Our esteem new Speaker Pelosi has already said they won't impeach. God it's great to be an American!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's good to see the wins! No matter what happens with the Senate, it's clear things are changing.

The results of this evening will be in our politics for a long time.

I am not sore at all. I prayed very hard and left things up to God. I feel peace about the matter. We still might keep the senate. Why is Cardin still projected the winner with Steele leading? Leave it to the networks. Again I ask: Will the Dems try to impeach Bush?

According to CBS it looks like the Republicans will have a 49-46-2 seat edge in the senate.

Thats quite all right. I saw on TV that the senate count could be 49-49-2 that is if the GOP loses the rest of the races. They called Tennessee for the GOP. That means Dick Cheney would cast the deciding vote!

As of right now, the Democrats need Virginia, Missourah, and Montana, and the Democrats have leads in all 3. The Dems may squeak out a majority in the Senate.

Tonight is a good night!!

Folks, it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Its only a matter of time before we can be proud Americans again.

In addition to the spanking in the House, Bush got one of his testicles put in a jar by the Senate door.

Looks like a pure RED state REJECTED a strict abortion measure. Who knew South Dakota has it in them.

Most state measures and races went our way.

looks like a good night indeed.

and by the way Herb,

You know, the Democrats have re-taken the Oregon House as well. If that's true, Oregon will now have a Democratic House, Senate, and Governor for the first time in many years. This could mean some serious changes in the next legislative session.

Ladies n Germ's-

Okay, the Dem's got it- so they better put their money where their mouth is. If they're going to take America in a new direction, I want to see it right off the bat. They have their chance... you guys better get r done!

Tim, if you are talking about nationally...if the Democrats do not take the Senate, they will have difficulty setting a new direction in anything. The House can pass things, but if the Senate doesn't and/or Bush simply vetos them, nothing changes.

The House needs simply to do what Pelosi said they were going to do: vote to raise the minimum wage, enact the 9/11 commission recommendations, etc. If Bush and a Republican Senate block those things, then Democrats can campaign on those issues in 2008. If the Dems can grab the Senate they will be in a slightly better position.

So let's look at what the Democrats do with the power they've gained, not what "new direction" they supposedly must set.

Media Pushes Notion 'Conservative' Democrats Won On Tuesday
Posted by Michael Rule on November 8, 2006 - 16:52.
Is this more offensive to Democrats or Republicans? At least five separate reporters described incoming freshman Democrat Congressmen as conservative. On Wednesday’s "Early Show" Bob Schieffer noted "these Democrats that were elected last night are conservative Democrats." Later in the same program, CBS News Captiol Hill correspondent Sharyl Attkisson highlighted, "...a lot of these new Democrats who’ve been elected are social conservatives." Seconds later, CBS Political Correspondent Gloria Borger observed that with the Democrats taking the House, "the committee chairmen are going to be liberal and the people coming in are going to be these moderate conservatives." The trend continued on "Imus in the Morning" as NBC’s David Gregory remarked, "She’s [Nancy Pelosi] going to have a lot of center-right Demcorats who won..."

Hahahaha!

Conservatives got the nutbags out of their party last night. That's the only win worth talking about where the GOP is concerned.

What's left of the GOP can start thinking about the difference between American conservatives, and the whackos they've been pimping for the last 10 years.

Exactly my point.

They didnt have to do anything to win but sit back and let the other side self destruct.

these things happen in cycles. If you believe that it wont happen again then you are crazy

If you read Woodward's "State of Denial," you find that the Bush adminstration loves football analogies. So here's one: your defense has to get the ball back before you can go back on offense. The Republicans fumbled and the Dems picked it up and ran in for a touchdown. Now it's up to the Dems to win future elections based on their achievements, on offense. The Republicans did the same thing after 1994.

No, probably the best thing would have been winning the elections in 2006. Republicans in 2008 will still have to deal with the fact that the Iraq disaster happened on their watch.

they have 2 years to screw it up, they will probably do it in 6 months.

And that's the best part isn't it?

Now we've got some new blood in the government. Change is going to happen. Maybe good, maybe be bad, but it won't be the same old harmful crap we've been dealing with.

IMHO, it's gonna be really hard to hose things up as badly as the GOP did. Not a tough act to follow, which all looks good for Dems and by extension most average Americans.

yeah, I mean wow!, the GOP had to have put a lot of effort into hosing things up this bad.

anyway, it all comes to a screeching halt in Jan. No more GOP fraked-up legislation will be enacted. Maybe the Demos won't get any enacted either, but things aren't gonna get worse. We're at dead stop from all things stupid from the GOP.

This is not a time to gloat. We need to be humble in victory and gracious in the defeats we may face.

I hope the Dems don't spend their time vilifying the GOP. I am glad to be reading and hearing what the Dems want to accomplish early on. The war will no doubt be the hardest because of its complexity.

I think the far left and the far right were the big losers on Tuesday. What I hope has transpired is now we have not just moderates on both sides of the isle but people who know how to communicate, negotiate and compromise without extremism.

Also I want to give my kudos to Ron Saxton for showing some class to his supporters following his defeat. He noted he was going to take the next few months to individually thank each one of them for their efforts.
