Heard a rumor that Clear Channel properties in Medford, Eugene and Albany are being sold to Marathon. Any truth to this?

Most rumors are true. Mic, please reveal your source. If true, watch out. Marathon has been in the market before, and others, and the employers involved are not real positive about it. However, I will give them the benefit of the doubt at this point.

Sorry, should read "employees", not "employers".

If this is true, I'd be worried, based on how Marathon has operated 103.7 KXPC. The good news: This would place 103.7 KXPC and 99.9 KRKT under the same roof, which could lead to a 103.7 flip to Hot AC.

Rumors have said; Marathon is buying Clear Channel's clusters in Billings, Bozeman, Missoula, Pocatello/Idaho Falls and Twin Falls. I haven't yet heard anything about CC's clusters in Yakima and the Tri-Cities.

You mean there is a cluster operator that is considered worse than CC. Now that is depressing.

It would explain Dove's move to Portland if true.

My somewhat reliable sources tell me Marathon is very close to a purchase of CC Pocatello/Idaho Falls.

Interesting thing about rumors, somewhere there is fact. Here is what I have heared from various operators in the Northwest, Marathon has made a offer on the CC properties in Washington and Oregon excluding Portland a few weeks ago. This is no rumor, and it explains why Robert was transfered back to Portland.
As of last Friday noone at CC in Eugene knew anything other than there were going to be some cut backs.
At lunch today I was told from people in the know that the Oregon/Washington deal may be going south because of Marathons in ability to come up with the kind of financing needed to pull this off.
Marathon buying CC Northwest properties could be a good thing, Marathon is more of a radio hold and sell at a profit Company,
It will be interesting to follow. If they sell off in pieces there will be some new local owners.

CC's Tri-Cities stations (97.1 KXRX, 97.5 KOLW, 98.3 KEYW and 102.7 KORD) just recently began streaming online. Could this indicate that they plan to hold on to these stations, due to the area's growth potential?

From my experience, streaming has absolutely nothing to do with future and potential ownership. Most of these streaming deals are done on trade and that would be "backburner" for the buying and selling of radio properties.

I was quite surprised to see Clear Channel's Tri-Cities stations streaming online, while their properties in Spokane, Boise, Eugene, Anchorage and Yakima aren't.

With everything going on with CC they its seems like they are getting ready to launch small market stations and getting their management 'talent' moved to other areas where they are going to keep the stations. Example of the guy that went from Eugene to Portland.

Marathon owned KTMT in Medford when I went to work for them in 98 - 99 in there somewhere, they seemed to leave us all alone and let us do whatever job we were handed; and the O.M. had good control of making all day-parts live. but as all big radio outfits they wanted profit, so in the end they sold it, but I can't say working for them was bad bye any means.

Marathon bought KUGN, KKTT and KEHK from Citadel, only to sell them to Cumulus.

How does Marathon operate? Just listen to 103.7 KXPC, which has been jockless for over two years.

So far only KFLY works for me, and it appears to be the only one that is/will be an actual station stream. The KODZ/Kool stream is called "Groovin'" and the KDUK stream will be all Hip Hop.

the streams work for me......... you may have to turn off your pop up blockers and yes KDUK and KOOL streams are not the actual station live on the net, that should have been given away by the stream names involving the words "COMMERCIAL FREE"
