This just hit me. Was thinking about the whole equality bit, after participating in the (cough) discussion here and talking it over with a Quaker friend of mine.

I think it is profound, but might just be bogus too:

Truth is true for all people in all places and in all times. This is absolute truth.

Does this not make us all equal by inference? If this were not the case, we would not have been able to establish a baseline of truth from which we have built our knowledge over time.

If the law is to be just and true, it must follow the rules of logic and adhere to truths as well.

This, reinforced with the above, clearly puts our equality under the law front and center, with those laws that only apply to some being false at their core.

In a nutshell, having a mutual definition of truth also demands we accept our equality in like kind.

Therefore, reality of our equality lies in the realm of fact, not belief. Those who deny this are false, either by method of reasoning or through denial of elementary truths shared by all.

Another implication is denial of our equality is also denial of the existance of absolute truths, thus making everything relative. Isn't this the claim most conservatives make when matters of morality, ethics and the law are concerned?

There it is. Bogus or not?

Sorry Missing for having fun, but somehow when I read that I could picture a Buddhist monestary with a bunch of candles burning and a priest giving the facts to "grasshopper".

And the jury remains out....

Ok, let's try it this way:

Do you think our equality is something that can be proven through analysis, or is this just a core rights of man thing we simply believe?
