I want a present for guys like Nwokie and me on Nov. 10 (Friday) when we celebrate Nov. 11's Veteran Day.

Since the election will be over, I want all of us to remember the current troops and those of us who have already served this country in uniform, by being nice to each other.

Come on, we can do that for at least one day, can't we?

I'll even apologize to Wayne.

No matter our politics, I know we all love this country and would not trade it for any other country in the world. That is why we are so passionate about our politics. We all want what we think is best for the United States.

Remember, it is my country right or wrong.

What makes you think that on Nov 11 the election results will all be in? On Nov 11 will we really know who actually controls the House and Senate?

At least Oregon has the right idea by all mail-in and at least we will know if Ted or Ron is our gov.

If it's a close election in Oregon, we may not know know by November 11 who won the governor's race. In 2000, the Oregon race between Gore and Bush was very close, and Oregon didn't know for a least a week who won (Gore). It took them a long time to count all the mail-in ballots.

Saxton is a liberal Democrat compared with Bush.

Saxton is of the same ilk as Bush, and represents the same body of failed policies, such as tax cuts for the rich and business, privatizing schools, and destruction of the environment.

So getting back to the discussion of Vets. My dad served in WWll. Not that he wanted too, Uncle Sam told he had to go.

As an 18 yr. old away from home and in a foreign land and seeing and smelling the things he did, it changed him. As it would with anyone. My dad was never one to show off his medals, uniform or anything that had to do with his days in the military. We had to beg him to open his US Government certified chest to see any contents that had to do with his time in the war. It was always hard for him to go back to those memories. He is a forward thinker, so he chose not to stay there.

I'll never forget the day my dad took me down to Social Services to register. My father knew I had to do it and so did I, but neither one us enjoyed it. I was glad he was with me though.

War should always be a last option after every other resource has been exhausted.

May the future US military be filled with people who fight poverty, disarm injustice, and build up bridges of hope.

"War should always be a last option after every other resource has been exhausted."

Great comment chris! You'd get a salute from every soldier buried in Willamette National Cementary.

ps: my gramps was mum about ww2 too. we knew very little than his 3 brothers died in France and he choose to stay until the job was done.
