Hey CBS employee's.....any truth to this? PDX is probably an expanding market and not in danger but what do you think of this?

I think CBS will put some or all of their Portland radio station for sale. Portland is the 23rd largest radio market in the country. Portland radio makes more money than Portland television. However, Austin and San Antonio are growing markets and CBS sold stations from those cities.

I just hope that CBS Radio won't sell their Portland stations to a Spanish radio group!

Just like CC, the biggest congloms are the first to feel the pinch of too many outlets and not enough people buying the simburgers.
So after shifting as much bandwidth (downgrades in the burbs, upgrades in the city) they are going to shed the country bumpkin outlets to enhance the bottom line for stock holders. You can automate and simulate and lay off only so many people, after that you have to consolidate.

I wouldn't believe the reasons they give. We all know better.

From radio and records.....

Walen Made CBS/Portland, Ore. SVP/Director Of Sales
Oct. 30, 2006
By Keith Berman

Mark Walen has been promoted to the newly created position of senior VP and director of sales for CBS Radio's six-station cluster in Portland, Ore., overseeing country KUPL, triple A KINK, classic hits KLTH (K-Hits 106.7), active rock KUFO, all-comedy KCMD and new rhythmic AC KVMX (MOViN 107.5).

Walen, who retains his GM duties for MOViN, KUFO, KUPL and KCMD, has been with the cluster since 1994, when he joined as GSM of KUFO. He was promoted to GM of the station in 2000.

"Having Mark in this central decisionmaking role will allow us to work more efficiently with our advertisers to meet their needs, as well as create unique opportunities utilizing our entire portfolio of stations," said CBS Radio executive VP, Western region Brian Ongaro.

Looks like they are trying to build their financial position in Portland. Though the company bottomline was strengthened with the sale of what they have already sold.

Yeah that will be a big $ maker. What a shame as a former CBS employee to see how they have run down a decent radio group. I used to be proud of what they were doing and now cringe when I see 'moves' pun intended and they don't have the foresight to protect potentional web names. Anyway, don't want to start a Movin thread when there is one that seems to go on forever....

I think I know the one you are talking about.....Dan should put a cap on these things....that one is ridiculous......the title is all wrong to. Needs to end with "OFF". Like off of the presets.

If I see a thread with that in the title I just don't read em anymore....could not give a royal rip about that station anymore....for me it died when it flipped!

What's up with MP4 Ltd. snatching up all the "Movin" domains? (Everything from "movin921.com" to "movin1079.com")
