By the way, there was a fill-in host for Trish tonight. I'm having an old geezer moment because I can't remember her name!!! I was surprised to hear her in this role because she is usually heard at the top of the hour on one of the other AMs in town (somebody please help me out here!)

I just remembered: Trish's substitute tonight was Cyn Bolsta. Hmmm...Where else on the dial have I heard her voice?

I noticed that, also.

Mark After Dark is apparently no longer on 910AM. Not on their website anymore, also.

According to Mark's website, he starts on Nov 11 on 106.7, K-Hits.
Same day and same time.

Cyn Bolsta can also be heard on KTRO.

>>Are all of the Dick Clark RRandR programs repeats?<<

Since Dick Clark is still working on getting back the ability to speak clearly - I'd surmise what you're hearing ARE repeats.

Back then oldies wear Fats Domino, Fats Waller,

Fats Waller would have been a real oldie even then. He was mainly a 1930s artist.

I notice they have Dick Clark on Saturday's now. Does Mike Harvey still have his "super gold" show? That's a popular show.

Why do you keep bringing up a Snuffy Smith comic strip character, and what would I use him for?

It's the other way around: Snuffy Smith was a character in the Barney Google comic strip but Barney's appearance was so long ago, I don't remember him. I'm not sure I was alive yet.

Never read Snuffy Smith, but willing to wager there is more intellectual discourse going on there. :-)

I used da Google to discover "Snuffy Smith" is still in print, although the author I remember (Fred Lasswell) died in 2001. http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/comics/bgoogle/about.htm

It ran in the Oregon Journal.

Barney Google & Snuffy Smith ran in the Sunday Oregonian. I don't remember it suddenly showing up when the Sunday editions were merged but it may have. It was a long time ago.

Were all of the newscasts (old KISN) done from the transmitter studio?

Looking at www.rma1.com scroll down a bit to the photo of Roger Hart with cartoon body just to the right of where it says Housewifes Helper. If you look at it form a angle, doesn't it look like somebody used a felt pen to add a bit of hair?

Can someone pinpoint the exact location of the
"We've been KISN your Wife" billboard? I want to see if any of it is still there.

In the mid 60's news was broadcast from the #2 window on the Kisn corner. Weekends news & jocks did it all from the Transmitter. The 2nd room had the live AP machines going with the real SFX of a newsroom. They took that out in late 69 and nothing ever really became of the 2nd broadcast booth.

Heard a Dick Clark syndicated show a couple of weeks ago that was most certainly post-stroke. Not sure if this will last, it was difficult to listen to. But not as difficult as it is for stroke victims, as I have discovered with a close member of my family the past five years.

Memo to stoner:
I thoroughly enjoyed your mid-day fund raiser this week.
I especially loved your "faux pas" on Clear Channel!!
LOL!!
By the way, I almost called in for "Whispering Bells", but ran out of time. I have a special connection to the Del Vikings. Would love to tell you about it. Google "new del vikings" and "La Chords/Les Chimes". Look for the tall skinny white man. He was also the founder of the Northwest's largest nonprofit relief agency.

"faux pas" on Clear Channel!! ???
please describe! I missed that part of thursday show.

The rma1 website mentioned the newscast was at the transmitter studio during Tom Murphy program.
Were there AP UPI teletype machines at the transmitter also? How about after 1969?

I listened for a bit to Dick Clark this evening on 91. He sounded normal to me. But that could have easily been a repeat from 5,10,15,20,25 or even 30 years ago!

Yes, midweek evening newscasts were done from the transmitter as well as the whole weekends. There was a requirement back in those days of a certain percentage of airtime had to come from the point of origin (or something like that) and since the station was licensed to Vancouver, Burnside street did not qualify. The overnite program (Pat Pattee) also originated from the transmitter. The weekends and midweek newscasts from the transmitter made up the time needed. It was strange to drive by the KISN corner on weekends during the day and hearing the jocks live on the air but seeing nobody in the studios at the corner.

Yes, there was a Teletype at the transmitter site. The transmitter studio was not fancy. It was just part of the transmitter room on the upper floor of the building. The building was not a fancy one. I remember the light fixture on the upper floor near the board was just a basic white light fixture that was hanging from the ceiling by the electrical wire. It was not screwed onto the mounting box. Functional but crude. The bottom floor was mainly a storage place.... The lights from the KISN carol tree were kept there. That was the Smith Lake location. I don't know what they had at the Marine Drive location as I was never in that building.

If you're into The Ventures' Christmas Album, you may want to listen to samples of Los Straightjackets "'Tis The Season" CD on Amazon.

Los Straightjackets are sorta' like The Ventures on steroids.

I think they do a good job on "Sleigh Ride". The intro sounds like "Walk Don't Run." Does Bob still live in Vancouver?
