By the way, there was a fill-in host for Trish tonight. I'm having an old geezer moment because I can't remember her name!!! I was surprised to hear her in this role because she is usually heard at the top of the hour on one of the other AMs in town (somebody please help me out here!) |

I just remembered: Trish's substitute tonight was Cyn Bolsta. Hmmm...Where else on the dial have I heard her voice? |

She is traffic reporter for various stations, plus was a KKSN 97.1 (weekend?) DJ before it was Charlied. |

Back then oldies wear Fats Domino, Fats Waller, |

Fats Waller would have been a real oldie even then. He was mainly a 1930s artist. |

I notice they have Dick Clark on Saturday's now. Does Mike Harvey still have his "super gold" show? That's a popular show. |

Why do you keep bringing up a Snuffy Smith comic strip character, and what would I use him for? |

It's the other way around: Snuffy Smith was a character in the Barney Google comic strip but Barney's appearance was so long ago, I don't remember him. I'm not sure I was alive yet. |

Barney Google & Snuffy Smith ran in the Sunday Oregonian. I don't remember it suddenly showing up when the Sunday editions were merged but it may have. It was a long time ago. |

Were all of the newscasts (old KISN) done from the transmitter studio? |
|
Author: Stoner Saturday, November 18, 2006 - 7:20 pm |

In the mid 60's news was broadcast from the #2 window on the Kisn corner. Weekends news & jocks did it all from the Transmitter. The 2nd room had the live AP machines going with the real SFX of a newsroom. They took that out in late 69 and nothing ever really became of the 2nd broadcast booth. |

Heard a Dick Clark syndicated show a couple of weeks ago that was most certainly post-stroke. Not sure if this will last, it was difficult to listen to. But not as difficult as it is for stroke victims, as I have discovered with a close member of my family the past five years. |

Yes, midweek evening newscasts were done from the transmitter as well as the whole weekends. There was a requirement back in those days of a certain percentage of airtime had to come from the point of origin (or something like that) and since the station was licensed to Vancouver, Burnside street did not qualify. The overnite program (Pat Pattee) also originated from the transmitter. The weekends and midweek newscasts from the transmitter made up the time needed. It was strange to drive by the KISN corner on weekends during the day and hearing the jocks live on the air but seeing nobody in the studios at the corner. |
