I saw on CBS news this morning that CC may be looking into putting part if not all up for sale.

Before everyone gets into a tizzy over this -

CC's looking to take the company private using equity partners because the stock has been underperforming lately.

The Mays family will still be firmly in control. To the stations it will be business as usual.

Hopefully, it doesn't have to do with a limited spot load.

clear channel continues to out perform all of the other major players in the radio industry. Earnings are miles ahead of the entercom's and CBS's of the world. New ideas and actually giving a rats ass about what goes out over the air is the reason for the continued success of CC.(all of you that think VTing is bad lets be serious for a second, this is how all business is run, the best product for the best price is good business and that is why all of you are bitter and upset and spend all your time posting on this site angry that you dont still work in radio. if you would have kept up with the change of the industry maybe you would stil have jobs.) if every company had the forward looking attitude and product development of CC then the entire industry would be in much better shape.

Well Hogan86, your post is so riddled with myopic statements, the only thing to say is things seem to be well from your position, but others can say with some authority that they do not deliver the best product for the best price, and despite the best efforts of some who did keep up with industry changes, they found themselves replaced with people of lesser skills and abilities strictly for financial reasons. That in itself dilutes the QUALITY of the final product.

Indeed some clusters are too thin in staffing to deliver a better product. A recent decision for programming to strengthen their web presence, further burdens overworked staffs. 4 and the door has been replaced by 10 and more.

In a company that has too many employees, you have inefficiency, so you trim the fat and make enough cuts to raise the profits and increase efficiency without affecting the final product.
however there comes a point where any additional cuts begin to affect the quality of the product which ultimately begins to cut into revenue.
Some think the industry is at that point.

U.S. automaker problems are not results of the recent fuel price hikes. They sowed these seeds back in the 70s when their answer to Honda and Toyotas price and perceived quality was the pinto and the vega. the competed at the price level, but with inferior quality, and lost that market share.
Meanwhile the imports grew their customer base to a point where they now compete in the mid and luxury markets and brought their customers with them. The honda civic buyer who shunned the pinto, now buys a Lexus rather than a Cadillac or Lincoln.

The radio product is offering a pinto in many cases and the customer base is sampling other options. Sure, you can put whiz bang features in it, air and power steering in the car, boffo web sites and streaming on the station, but without putting emphasis on the quality of the product you offer your customer, you run a strong risk of losing them to alternatives.

Radio may be at that crossroad.

Roger -- excellent words!!!

Hogan says "New ideas and actually giving a rats ass about what goes out over the air is the reason for the continued success of CC" Are you kidding me? But, hey, "I'll take the next nationwide caller at 1-800-U-STINK for a chance to win $1000 dollars." That is ultra-creative.

CC has proven time and again they don't care about over the air product, they care about the bottom line. They wouldn't know a fresh idea if it hit them on the head. If it is easy, cheap and saves money, they will do it.

CC has taken legendary stations across America and ruined them. But hey, their stock is performing better than CBS. Congrats...I guess

Now I know some of you feel this is truly compelling stuff, but truthfully it's just more of the same weak generalizations about the "corporate" that have been heaped on ad nauseum since deregulation finally slid down the mountain. The eagerness expressed by some of you waiting for the bloodied head to fall into the bucket is starting to wear a little thin. I agree that radio is no longer the Bedford Falls it used to be, but the energy expended here bemoaning that very reality is getting to be almost comical. Come on....we can all agree that radio is run by suits today not the old school radio people can't we? I think we could also agree that nobody likes the big guys (insert your radio Hydra here) except possibly for the people who work for them. My .02 for now. No, wait, there's more.
Wow! How refreshing and unique to see a rant from Matt that isn't his standard drivel & whine about how he was mistreated at MRB. Interesting comments indeed, considering he is no longer the "mail-it in" midday liner card jock but is now a part-time vt'er employed by the same company that's gone through 3 GMs in less than 6 years and hasn't spent a dime to promote anyone in it's cluster with the exception of KUGN. Nice transition Matt. Perhaps if just this one time you could discipline yourself from interacting with your co-workers your experiences wouldn't leave you so bitter.

CC is considering selling many of its smaller market stations. Some have already been announced. In Oregon, CC is in Portland, Eugene, Albany-Corvallis, Medford. With the exception of Portland, all other Oregon markets are considered "small".

Hey Wrath -or Davis or Michaels or whoever: a state judge agreed that I was harassed at MRB, so quit hiding behind a fake name and have a pair. Oh wait, you probably don't. Besides, if I wanted to rant, I would have done it last year. I am so pleased to be doing what I do now for a career.

As far as what I am doing with radio. I am helping a friend, making some cash and having some fun, I could care less who the GM is, was, or will be. If you had a clue, you would know that I changed careers and made a FANTASTIC transition.

With the exception of BF and B, MRB is pathetic, and the mass exodus of airstaff proves that. As far as mailin' it it... check the ratings, if you can read. I did a hell of a job "mailin' it in", and graduating college at the top of my class. No Regrets.

Your comments are hilarious and clueless.

Hey Wrath: You do have some valid points. Some of which we all have agreed to as I'm sure you've read here on many of the threads. But to attack someone like that (phone it in) Gimme a break guy!!!! Let's see your numbers? I worked with Matt at KKNU and filled in for him from time to time as I did for others at MRB. Matt is a great talent. Not a bad umpire either. Like many of us broadcast vets (30yrs. in the biz) we sometimes take a hit for telling like it is. Rants and Raves???? I think not! Its the truth man!!! can you handle the truth?????? I think not!! Even as a part timer my weekend numbers were no doubt better than yours could or would ever be. The way I see it is Matt hit a home run and you struck out. Go back and sit on the bench for a while
till you get the stones be in the game. You go Matt!!!!
