I've always been a big fan of Fudruckers. Build your own hamburger. The only one left that i know of is located right off of 1-5 South on Lower Boons Ferry Road. It is worth the drive if you want a great burger. Plus if you get a combo meal it comes with a FREE Freshly baked cookie :-)

Salvador Molly's-fantastic carribean food w/a pirate theme.

Wild Abandon-fantastic salads and outdoor seating.

Cup And Saucer- Great breakfast and interesting art.

Sapphire Hotel- fantastic menu and sexy! (with an extra special !) ambiance.

Takahashi's- Super cheap and super yummy sushi. I prefer it over the higher brow "Yoko's" that gets more press attention.

La Carreta's- Best Mexican food Ev-er.

Papaya Thai- Pad thai mmmmmmmmm.

I have many more.....

What's the restaurant bar in the Embassy Suites hotel? Good breakfast.

Todai for buffets,

Rhienlander for out of town guests and very special occassions.

Pho Van at the Beaverton town square.

I am really saddened by the closure of Cucina Cucina. I am a very adventerous diner and like to explore the menu of the restaurants I visit. But of the dozens of times that I visited I alway's ordered the same thing even if with guests. Tuscano bread with roasted Elephant garlic, Fried Calamari, Whole leaf ceaser, and Roasted Chicken Asiago Pine nut with Linguine, and by far some of the best Tiramisu I have ever had.

Sentimental Favorite ( That means " I have had some terrible things happen to me while dining there, but I'll never stop going." ) - Jake's.

Laughable - Bluehour. If I was psychotic, I would murder a lot of that staff. With a pan roasted cross bow and delicate terrine of " Shut-your-mouth-when-you-are-talking-to-me." .

" I'd better get over the ' Look at me ' vibe and enjoy this meal. It's VERY good. " - Fenouil.

Sushi - SinJu. Never anywhere else for sushi - but I'm open to suggestions if you have been to SinJu and honestly feel there is better sushi to be had.

" Worth the drive." - The Silver Grille in Silverton. Sure, the chef/owner and I have some history. But I like to think that I can look past that to recognize that it's a brutally good restaurant. I'll be there Friday night.

Late Night - Brasserie Montmartre. I know all the kids like to go to Montage while hammered. And I like it too. But I like Brasserie Montmartre more.

Yeah. V.Q.

Good Portlandish spot. Good memories. Large bar tabs.

I don't agree with that El Gaucho snub though. I've have some great fun and fantastic food there. Sure, I got laughed out of the place when I walked in on Valentine's Day hoping for a table. But I was laughing before I even stumbled through the doors. I can't fault them for that.

There is a place in NW too - BoBar? Something like that. I'm eager to go back there.

CHA CHA CHA. One of the best Burritos I've ever had in my life, (Honest to god)I had one for the first time last week at the Hawthorne CHA CHA CHA. YUMMY!
The burrito's are HUGE, one burrito is filling, infact i can barely finish one burrito. They are so damn good and cost about 3 bucks, what a deal.
They are piled high with your choice of meat, refried beans, and this tasty Mexican Rice.

The only one I know of is located on Hawthorne, but I believe there are a few other locations!
CHA CHA CHA RULES!

My vote for best Chicken Bento-type:

Du's Grill - 54th & Sandy,

no oil, no MSG, no sugar, you get lots of juicy grilled chicken, good rice, and a salad with their incredible secret dressing under for about $5.40, a full meal.

Rose's on NW 23rd? Don't bother...loud, bad atmosphere, and snotty servers, and food not that good anymore, I don't know about the big one on 99W-Sherwood.

Wayne- There are about a thousand places in Portland with breakfast, and roughly 843 of them are better than Sharis (fresh fruit included), maybe less for Elmers.

A few examples: Besaws, Mothers, Zells, Fat Alberts, Original Pancake House(NOT the 24-hour Hotcake House!), John Street Cafe, Hawthorne Cafe, Pig&Pancake (sadly they closed the location by I-5/Boones Ferry Rd, but there's another one somewhere on the far eastside, and of course on the coast).

Isn't the OPH on Barbour Blvd? I used to go by there all the time on the way to church and they are always crowded. I did eat there once and they are quite good. There is Pig and Pancake near where I live and I eat there all the time. I was wondering if there are places besides Elmers that has fresh fruit with their pancakes. Thats what I love! Went to Pastini the other night, wasn't impressed..
(I should know better than to order Alfredo,I'm always disappointed..Mine's better :-) )
Went to Flambe' in Oregon City tonight, equally unimpressed.(especialy for the prices.)

DeNicolas is decent Italian, but it used to be better.(still yummy though.)

Mama Marias (~52nd and Powell, behind the Plaid Pantry.) has an okay pizza, but avoid the rest of the menu.(I havn't been there in a while though,so it could be better by now.)
I think it's mosly a bar now,the "restaraunt" side is always empty when I go there.

There's a Roses out in Beaverton/Hillsboro,I forget exactly where,And one on 23rd? I think. They still have killer sweets, and a rockin Reuben sammich. The matzo-ball(sp?) soup is just as good as I remember it at the old place on 122nd and Glisan..the matzo balls are bigger tho!
OMG..their Rumballs..keep me away!!

The Trufflehunter, out in Gresham is a great little place for Sandwiches and stuff..(also has killer desserts!)
Order a "Half" sandwich -You've been warned!
(The "Whole" sandwich is as big as the plate!)
Freshly baked bread, and a "special" bread of the day.Good stuff.

Pa's Kettle on, ~170th and Division?
Kind of a "greasy spoon" diner..
Funny little (family run) place,But they're really Friendly, and they refuse to let you leave hungry.
-I love thier scones. Get stuffed for cheap.

Pizza-
Stark St. Pizza Co. -The Winterhawk.
Bugatti's in Oregon City -Maui Waui.

BBQ-
(if you don't own a 'que..otherwise go fire that thing up!!)
Campbells on 96th? and Powell,Seems they used to be better too,but it's still tasty.

Reo's(Rio's?) Ribs on TV highway,about 179th?
(meh, just look for the clouds of smoke, you can smell when you're getting close!)
Used to be run out of an old RV parked in the lot,now I guess they've moved inside the building there.Havn't been there in a while either.

A few of my Fav's anyways.. :-)

I splurge once in a while but like with broiled fish or chicken ceaser salad but if I go to BV it's the Double Colossal, add cheese and bacon with double spread, or the tillamook pepper bacon cheeseburger add double spread, large fry with cup of spread for dipping fries in, and forget the diet coke......Large shake......!!! AHHHHhh

Lander, the spread is called "smack". One of my buddies always orders his cheesburgers with extra smack.

I also wish they'd bring back the "barrel of fries".

BBQ- Clay's Smokehouse on 30-ish and Division. Mind-numblingly good everything, and the pineapple upside-down cake is to die for.

I love the onion rings that Burgerville has. Why do they only have that part of the time? Most stores have them all year. Also I have grown to like Arbys! They have cupons in the mail in which you can get 4 sandwiches for $5! I wish Burgerville would add a baked potato with their meals! Wendy's has those.

I love the slushes that Dairy Queen has and my favorite
is lime. I was at a DQ recently and they stopped carrying
the lime and they replaced it with lemon lime which is
really 7-up. I noticed that at Winco they still sold Green River!
Remember that one?

Anyone remember the old "Engine House Pizza"?
Used to be one at Jantzen Beach.
Their thin crust with a little corn meal underneath and those small round pepperoni's.

If you do and cannot find anything near that.....then check out "Papa Pete's Pizza"
Washington I-5 Ridgefield Exit #14...right at stop and in strip mall around corner.

Just 14 miles from the I-5 bridge and well worth the trip.....
MMMmmmm Goooooddddd Eats....

Organ Grinder.

Earthquake Ethel's.

Not really - but I've been saving those two Portland pop culture references for a punchline somewhere and I just could not sit on them any longer.

Why did the Organ Grinder go under anyways? I LOVED the place as a kid ... the pizza wasn't the best but of course the entertainment was. I moved back some 15 years later and it's gone. :-( I have been wondering that for the 10 years I have been back, why did it go under? It was ALWAYS packed.

You ever hear of "Fire on he Mountain"?

Take a look at:

www.portlandwings.com

Used to chat with someone in radio who loved Hot Wings and liked this place. The restraunt is nothing to write home about but they do have good food! His co-worker did not though as he had to use clean wipes to get the BBQ sauce off of the console afterwards!!!
