Hello all So as an interested listener where will the CBS JACK AXE fall in portland now that MIX went MOVIN? What DJ's are headed for the unemployment line next? Does CBS own a major interest in Sirius or XM because that is were they are driving their listeners. If I wanted to listen to an IPOD on shuffle I would buy one! Are DJ's, at least with CBS, a dying breed? I for one surely hope not....I enjoy the various on air personalities! Have a Good One!

I think Moovin is charlie's little sister. Her real name is Shantell. I heard she is "Ghetto Fabulous!"

The growing trend in Western Canada is now to name the Jack station after the city/town name. Not sure what you'd do in Portland, but it might be GENE-FM in Eugene.

CBS stations were jumping on the Jack bandwagon left and right a couple of years ago but it's not likely to happen in Portland this late in the game, especially with Charlie already in the market. CBS so far has never gone head to head with another Jack/Bob/Tom/Dick/or Harry. CBS was rumored to be just days from flipping KFRC in SF to Jack when another broadcaster beat them to the punch with a bad imitation as "Max-FM." Same thing supposedly happened in at least one other market. Given Entercom's quick and initially ill-conceived move with the late, lamented Kisn-FM, it could have happened here too.

All right so then that is a done deal then....good...would hate to see another station go on auto-pilot without live and local talent hosting it!

I know....lets all rebel...everyone switch to Satellite radio and hit them were it hurts...in the wallet! Wait until the day every car has streaming internet capabilities in it. Radio as we know it will be forever changed. I still enjoy a good live personality on the air though over just music all the time.

I had my iPod hardwired to my car stereo in June, and couldn't be happier with it. Best of all, no subscription fees, and I control the music.

Reinstate's post just gave me an idea! Produce a set of nice themed elements for your very own radio station sound! For only $19.99, you provide some copy, or audio samples to be integrated into one of 15 different themes! Put 'em on your Pod, shuffle and welcome to your own personal sound! (Hey, people buy goofy themed ring tones, this might not be too far off the mark!)

>>How long...movie...computer graphics...dead movie stars. Didn't that movie about Joe McCarthy come close? >>Wait until the day every car has streaming internet capabilities Let's hope net neutrality continues, otherwise it will simply be another jukebox service with Verizon, Sprint or AOL deciding what we should think is cool.

Internet in Cars...Hmmmmm....think I'll buy stock in ambulance and tow truck companies. If cell phones are any clue of what driver distractions can cause...think of some person searching for music or imagine somebody surfing porn while driving.....nobody will be able to afford insurance. Actually if you think about it cars already have a form of internet....satellite radio is really just streaming satellite internet without any visual. You have to subscribe to it just like the internet.

sadly enough, jack has full time board ops. i worked at the dallas jack for "a" day, then high tailed it. the one here in minneapolis has full timers for sure. i will tell you first hand, jack is the worst thing to happen to radio. staff people are lied to right off the bat. allow me to tell my story... i had spent a crazy, drunken, hot tub infesting night with my girlfriend. the next morning, i was so hung over with direct knowledge that i did not have to be into work(wild100.3) the whole day. when i finally climbed out of bed, i had missed 20 calls from the most important hetro-lifemate to me, he urged me to throw 100.3 on. it was a bunch of songs that had the word "jack" in them but it was bleeped out. i sat for a couple of hours listening before going to work, thinking that i had surely been let go, why wouldn't i have been? at that point i was the highest payed hourly employee in the building about $10/hr over the next guy down. when CBS's first JACK FM is signed on, i go in. sure enough, kurt johnson, the interim PD, and the whole sales staff are in the studio, poppin bottles and such. they are telling the new board opps not to seg it tight, "let the song end, then hit the sweep, let it finish all the way, tehn hit the song. i was pulled aside "ed, there is going to be full time on air opprotunities for you now. are you in??" "sure, where else am i going to go??" of course, i see through the fake opprotunity because that man betrayed the two guys that i went to dallas to work for in the first place. so i packed up the car, and me and DKLA drove back to minneapolis for the conclave. my PD at the time was very upset for not giving him 2 weeks, but he was fired a few months later(lied to and betrayed? yup) JACKFM is, like i said to begin with, the worst thing to happen to radio. we all remember STAR, don't we? my friend, DKLA, tried to stop that format from happening the way it did too. sorry i wrote so much. i should get a livejournal, huh? but i just wanted to lay out what i, and every other person faced with this flip, have gone through. besides, i didn't realize how much i wrote, dont wanna waste the time i spent. see you soon ptown, not really hahahaha, pour me another.
