Listening to the radio tonight..I heard Matt James back on the air. This time it was Star 102.3, it must have somewhat of a budget to have a part-timer.

Al Kline- Was he at MRB also? Is this live or VTd? Going after Magic and KOOL? or?? I haven't heard it much in awhile.

Al was part of the mass exodus of talent that has left MRB in the last 12 months. You can read into that what you want. Al is a tremendous talent, solid pipes, and a heck of a guy. Hola, Matt Jones!!! I'll pass along your words to Terry!

Magic 94 has not been the same for awhile. Removing Dennis from morning..not sure if that was his choice or lame PD with a knee jerk reaction. Have not listened to mornings since Dennis left for afternoons.

According to what what I've heard, Dennis Nakata has left the radio business. Star now has some great talent on the air, however, I can't stand listening because the music variety is so horrible. Who wants to hear Blessid Union Of Souls "Let Me Be The One" everyday? Star claims to play "everything" which is their excuse for them not know what the heck they're doing. Playing oldies from Van Morrison, Chicago, Bee Gees, Rod Stewart, Al Green, Barry White, etc. is enough to destroy any Hot AC station. Instead, Star should be playing artists like Shakira/Wyclef, All-American Rejects, Justin Timberlake, and become more like a Top 40 station for adults, without all the rap stuff that KDUK is now playing.

How are the 6-10am numbers f18-34 and f25-54? The B&S show is nice....if you like the southern accents and live in Kentucky, Georgia or Florida and can't get your daily fix of Oprah. It's no wonder there are just 4 stations west of Nebraska who air them. But on the other hand I bet the B&S show is pretty cheap or a full trade-out right? Hello Matt!

I actually haven't seen the latest numbers Greg, but everyone at Star is really excited about what's happening in the studio, the product we are able to deliver and some surprises coming up. As far as complaining about the format, I can find faults in everyone's programming. Why do some rock stations play "Torn" by Natalie Imbruglia??? Who knows. Why do HOT AC stations play 70's songs we've all heard a thousand times and not Justin T, who has the #1 record? Who knows. I worry about doing the best airshift possible, everyday. I play the songs on our playlist, when they are scheduled to play, and I'm happy to do it. I don't even have CD's flying at my head like in a former job. It's a SAFE environment, and that's a welcome thing. I suppose everyone makes a good arm-chair PD, I would include myself in that category. But in radio's current climate, Guy Zapoleon and Jimmy Steele even have someone to answer to. As far as Dennis goes, I called it when I resigned last year from my old job. My leaving was just the start. Storm Kennedy, Dennis Nakata, Terry Jonz, Diana Russell, Al Kline, myself.... we all left. 50% of the airstaff in about a 6 month period. YIKES!

Hi Matt! You happen to be one of my favorite radio voices in Eugene. You're one of the few who has the power to bring any station to new heights. I'm not intending to disrespect Star's PD, who happens to be one of the nicest guys in radio. I wouldn't be surprised if Star's mess of a format was the work of the company's corporate consultant. With all of his years of experience, I'm sure Star's PD knows how Hot AC needs to sound, to be successful. He probably has no choice but to go along with whatever crap the consultant is feeding him. This is only a guess, based my experiences in this crazy business.

Matt James is a gangster! Super nice guy. Ive just heard a couple of his breaks but he sounds really good on the air too. Justin Philips was a good jock too. I was sorry to see him go for Star's sake, cuase he was so solid. He will go somewhere bigger and better though im sure. I like to think that everyone at Cumulus is doing great radio dispite our lack O Money.

RON!! I have mentioned on this board many times that my time working with you and with Bobby Hart and the guys at KLYK were the BEST I ever had in radio. You were a TRUE mentor. As I young punk kid, I didn't appreciate it as much as I do now looking back. THANK YOU!!!! As far as the PD across town - To quote WWF wrestler the Rock "He is a useless pile of monkey crap" and a true liability for that company. Oh well, perhaps he'll drop the wrong inflammatory remark on the wrong female employee and get his butt sued big-time. Hey, like the GM said, if I don't like the language and name calling, I could just leave the room. Does that count if it's the studio and your on the air live? NO LONGER MY PROBLEM!

Matt, thanks for the kind words about me, but if you want an example of a TRUE mentor, read the Mike Phillips post. I'm just a guy who'll talk radio to anyone willing to listen to me drone on. And as I've posted before, thanks for your help with KEDO(AM). You were one of the few KLYK jocks who took the time to learn the automation beast, and try "uncool" things like news. Drop me a line. My wife would like to become a teacher and we'd be interested in your story. Ron P.S. Do your students call you Mr. James?

Ron, They don't call me Mr. James, but they do ask me to read things in my "radio voice", like the lunch menu, and announcements. The funny thing is, I do the weather in the morning for them, and it's a full-out weather broadcast, radio big-voice and all, with a jingle and everything. The kids go crazy and it's a great way to start the day.

Eugene Radio Girl~ "Star claims to play 'everything' which is their excuse for them not know what the heck they're doing." Ya think star could be Charlie's cousin? I still have yet to hear "Night on Bald Mountain" (NOT the Disco version B.T.W.!!) or Miles Davis, or even Gregorian Chants playing on Charlie. Pssshhhhhh, yeah....."We Play Everything" indeed, ahh huhhhh.................
