"Daria will not be coming with them."

Big mistake. Daria is at least 50 percent of that show...probably more. Do those morons really believe they can pull off a morning show without her.

They will learn.

Doug is a pretty good straight man but Skippy, without Daria's humor, is just a guy with an annoyingly high, nasal voice. There's not much use for a straight man when there is no one funny to play off of.

I for one will miss the trio. Maybe they can find some other guys (or gals) to go with Daria.

I think it will take them 4 months to install a microphone in the Charlie studios!

Seems like E-com knew how talented Daria was (and is) when they kept her on following the reimaging of 94.7-NRK. If they are smart, they do the same and build something around her.

The only reason I listen to the Buzz is for Dr.Doug,Daria and well you get my drift.Doug will do fine with what ever he puts his mind to.I also agree he should have taken Daria. They would have done great. Then again maybe he couldn't.He is definitly going to need another host preferably female as I don't think just he and Skippy can carry the load.I like Skippy as a person but well once again you get my drift.Either way,Good luck!!

Yah Im also surprised they didn't keep Daria.
Im curious who will be on the afternoons at the buzz. That station needs high profile talent, because the music itself won't carry the station.
Maybe Mike Chase and Daria afternoons?? Wishful thinking, I miss the old days of NRK when it was Mike and Daria. I like Mike Chase but I can't stand country music.

Maybe they should try moving Daria back to mornings with Nelson and Terry? Nelson and Terry will be taking a hit since Doug and skippy are now a competitor.

Nwokie: Shortly after the beginning of "Charlie" it was announced in an Entercom meeting, they wanted to have a live morning show down the line. They've been actively considering personalities for quite some time. Just about a year. At the time, there was no talk about any other day part becoming live.

I noticed that Daria was not on the Buzz today. Im wondering if Dr Doug and Skippy no longer want to work with her. A lot of egos in one room can be a mess. There is no reason why Daria would not be put on mornings at Charlie. Who knows, maybe she is difficult to work with. Whatever the reason is, its a big loss for Charlie, she is a great talent.

observation:Daria is never on in afternoons, If it is vacation time, she must have alot of vacation time, a day here and a day there, she has not ben on for a week or so, and a few weeks before she was gone for a week. so other poster about here being there is dead on.
like them or hate them it is no secret in E-com bldg that Dr D and Skippy work harder than anybody. I can't wait to see how this plays out in the Ego building at 0700. Did Nelson approve this?

The reason Daria came to work with Dr Doug and Skippy is cuz Nelson went on strike when they hired Daria a few years back for mornings, remember?

Its gotta be a hostile enviornment over at the Buzz, considering the fact that every one hates each other. Thats what you get when have 50 egos in one building. Its too bad Nelson and Daria don't get along because that would be a smart move to team them up.
And lets not forget a huge piece of the Puzzle "that 71show". The reason why Nelson went on strike was because the management fired Terri Ann and replaced her with Daria. Nelson signed a FAT Contract giving him an insane amount of money, and 100% complete creative control over the show. According to him it was not ok to fire Terri Ann.
So he stuck up for his co-worker, when she was going to get thrown out. Radio is a shady business, one day your in, the next day your thrown out on your ass! Its nice to have friends in radio.

yeah Larry & Radiodawgs, I agree with you. There's NO reason to be nasty. This thread isn't a " pick on Daria" thread. C'mon! My 1.5 Cents:
They're all very talented and do a good show. Daria does pretty good on TV--- how many of us can say we WE'd look descent on television? Ever heard the phrase " face made for radio"? - That's MOST of us! :-)

If you're going to get nasty, at least have the courage to use your real name. If you truly believe what you type- THAT shouldn't be a problem.

in response to Salmonella's post..

I wish Nelson never would have stuck up for Terri Ann. She's horrible, IMO. All she does is laugh... over and over... at things that arent even funny. She's like a annoying little sister that wont shut up or go away. I cant listen to their show because of her, and I really enjoy Nelson and Terry.

Yah, Daria brings a lot more to the table, but she does not get along with Nelson so that would never be an option. As I listen to stations across the dial it is the same deal. Some Dj's bring a lot to the table, and some bring absolutely nothing. Anyone can get on the radio and read off liner cards, but its the ones that actually have something to offer the listener that are a benefit to the station. With so many other oultets to get music radio HAS to provide something besides music, they need personalities that are not reading off liner cards.
Anyone who knows anything about radio knows that good talent can bring in ratings. I noticed that Buns mentioned that 107.5 is boring. I've been listening to 107.5 for the last few weeks and I really enjoy the station. They have great dj's but they are stale on the presentation. They need more contests, more listener interactions, MORE EXCITEMENT! The station does sound stale, they are a rock station, yet it is programed like an adult AC station. That station also needs more dj's. I've noticed that they no longer have a 7-midnight dj, and the weekends have huge gaps where there is no dj on.

This just means more listeners for Greg's show on 94.7, which is how it should be since he has the best morning show in Portland. The Buzz morning show and the new show with Skippy and Dr Doug will be almost exactly the same and people will look for something different and better, and they'll land on 94.7 and stay there.

Why would you say that? Most morning radio shows are exactly the same. Two guys with a chick sidekick, talking about their lives and pop culture and doing the same old morning show that everyone's been doing forever. At least 94.7's morning show is different, there's no stupid frat boy humor, there's no token female who basically just laughs at the main two guys, there's no humiliation of listeners, and the music is great. Beats me why anyone listens to anything else in the morning.

Aside from the read-from-the-page-taped-out sound, I like Greg's show a lot, but I don't listen. It really is not the type of show I want in the morning. Yes - I want chatter.

Greg's show would be great at mid-day, or afternoon, though. Basically 94.7 kind of does that all day, though with more repetition of shallower playlist, and a bit less music-talk. The Bottom 40, which Glover does on Sunday evenings is awesome. I wish the entire station sounded like that show - I'd never change the station.

You know....my personal opinion on this is that 2 female hosts cancel each other out.

Our voices are just in that sort of range, unfortunately.

I know that whenever I run the boards for voice tracks (amongst the various things I do at my work)...people ALWAYS confuse me with the female host if there is one.

I would love to see it, but I think it would confuse the listener too much.

Copernicus said: "You know....my personal opinion on this is that 2 female hosts cancel each other out. Our voices are just in that sort of range, unfortunately."

Where I work, people confuse the male announcers as well, but no one uses that to draw the conclusion that "all females have similar voices". And just because one station tried a 2-female team and it failed, doesn't mean a different pairing wouldn't work. How many 2-male teams have gone on air over the years and failed miserably? And yet no one uses that as a argument that we should never try another 2-male team again.

I am great with voices and yet sometimes I have trouble telling the difference between Mark & Brian or Bob & Tom. Please don't let yourself be brainwashed by the same old "female voices" stereotypes. It's simply not true.

I think it is true, the female voices do clash and its hard telling who is who. Ever notice how on a radio station that you never have 2 female jocks back to back. Men have more distinctive voices that are more authoritarian on the radio. Women are less authoritative, although I have heard some male jocks in portland who sound very feminine on air. And who was it, someone on this board claimed that both men and women want to hear male voices on the radio, over females.
Women have their place in radio, someone needs to fill up all those empty coffee cups.

...and all you caucasians look alike.

>>you never have 2 female jocks back to back

Perhaps due in part to a shortage of female air talent? There are simply more men in the biz. Also a sizeable number of stations have male/female mornings followed by female middays, sometimes followed by male/female afternoons.

I covered this on an earlier thread, but in fact, there are no studies that are seriously considered legitimate in the business today that show that women are less authoritative, harder to listen to, or have any other diminished capacity relative to mens'. It is simply GARBAGE.

You don't have female jocks back to back because these same old jock's tales regarding female announcers have been passed down from PD to PD as truth, and since unfortunately, most PDs are still male, they have no vested interested in changing the status quo - even though they may not be consciously sexist.

I cited my sources on the earlier thread, so no need to do so again hear. Mr. Timberfake, I realize the last statement on your post was a joke, but I gotta say I am sorry to see that someone new in the business has already had his opinions warped by such nonsense.

It wasn't all that long ago that people believed without question that black Americans were less intellegent, less able, and simply less-than. Perpetuating this stuff about female announcers and voices is the same crime, different subject.

Reminds me of the days when country stations (and possibly other formats) had a rule against playing two songs by female singers back-to-back. By the mid-1970s most stations had dropped this rule.

"I know that whenever I run the boards for voice tracks (amongst the various things I do at my work)...people ALWAYS confuse me with the female host if there is one."

I assume you mean people these people are on the phone - this is simply because of the huge difference between a person's voice on the phone vs on the air. Haven't you noticed that people often have trouble recognizing/believing that they are talking to the air personality when they are put "on the air"? Ever heard Lykus do his "oh, you wanted to talk to *Tom*" schtick?

Bob & Tom do sound alike: they are both boring.

I think there is a perception that putting 2 women together, the show will wind up beling chick-talk. In the regular world, this may be true, but a good producer and smart voices can keep the talk going in the direction it should.

Two guys talking doesn't always go to sports or women, however a good producer is sometimes required to ensure that, too.

My suggestion for 2 voices that are distinct from each other: Daria and Bea Arthur

KRSK Trolling For Talent
ENTERCOM Hot AC KRSK (105.1 THE BUZZ)/PORTLAND PD JEFF McHUGH is putting out the word now that he is losing two members of his afternoon show, Dr. DOUG and SKIPPY, to crosshall sister Adult Hits KYCH (CHARLIE 97.1 FM) sometime in 2007 to begin that station's first morning show.

Remaining 105.1 THE BUZZ afternoon star, market icon and queen of local TV, radio and theatre, DARIA O'NEIL will need "A-level" playmates! So if you wanna do mornings in afternoons without the brutal 3a wakeup, rush the complete package to JEFF, now at buzz1051@mac.com.

Word is, that Daria is making the decision on who will be her co host. si T&R should actually be sent to her.

I don't think putting two chicks together is a good thing, and i doubt it will happen. Nothing against women, but you need two different perspectives. Two women can't give you that.

And two guys can?

Seriously, I think this whole perception is nothing more than bias than anything else. If the two hosts are entertaining, then people will listen.

The reality is for two perspectives to actually happen, all that is needed is two hosts that actually have two perspectives!

hear hear, kskd.

So Justin, you're again saying that women are less capable. 2 men are perfectly able to give different perspectives, but women cannot? In addition to being woefully ignorant, that makes you a chauvanist. Hopefully you won't go far enough in the business to cheat some woman out of a job she deserves.

Im curious what 1075 will be doing, once They start adding personalities on charlie and The Buzz. I can't imagine thy will stick to the ridiculous liner card radio format that they currently have. 107.5 Still sounds really boring. I like the Bob Rivers show, but after the show is over, the station sounds lifeless.

Hey Buns get back to work! CBS has all but given up on 1075. Is it temporary or will step up and do something after they finish selling off all the stations they dont want? You like the Bob Rivers show? Well that makes you part of a very very small audience.

If CBS has given up on 107.5 than why havent they blown up the station? whats the point of leaving a station on the air that sounds half assed and even the management have given up on. I would be pissed if I was in sales trying to sell a station that is going no where.

"...the electric vibrator plug"

They still have corded models? Is it made out of corrugated tin, too? I thought advancements in female masturbatory aids advanced to batteries and showerheads LONG ago.

Maybe it's just the nostalgia factor. The "Back in my day" reminiscense. For added flavor and all.

Fatboy, My wife refuses to update her vibrator. She has the original "My pet Vibrator" circa 1964. Im thinking of selling it on EBAY. I always trip on the damn cord as Im stumbiling into bed! I'll sell it to your girl if she wants one, One of these days Im going to throw the damn thing out the window!

Yunno if you add special seeds and pour water on it before you go to bed, when you wake up it's not only a corded toy of sexual pleasure, but it's ALSO a potted plant full of Chia goodness!

I'd hold onto it. Or take it to Antique Roadshow or something.

To Fatboy and Sal-

They have the new "clapper" Vibrator out. Yes thats right, the makers of the Original Clapper now have gone into the sex toy industry. Just two claps and suddenly the vibrator will turn on, another two claps and it turns off. A word of caution- MAKE SURE YOU REMEMBER TO TURN THE VIBRATOR OFF. I was hosting a dinner party at my house. My friend claped his hands to call his dog when all of the sudden, the lound thunderous sounds of a jackhammer went off.
ummmmm-We are having..um...construction done on our street.

My family and I have no problem with the music, but we listen to hear the team. Take it away Tuesday, Random Thursday, Should I go to the Doctor, etc. Funny stuff.

I would be interested to hear Daria and the new guy(s). Friday would make sense, as both Doug & Skippy will be out. I suppose they could actually do it during the afternoon time slot then.
