I hear that Bustos has bought the station and they let go most of the personal to prepare for the sale. Bustos over paid for it at the price mentioned to me ($3M). |

Bustos would probably pay more than $3,000,000 for a Spanish FM in a market like Salem. 95.1 really should've been Spanish from day one. |

If KSND is sold, it should be no surprise to anybody. That is what Ernie does. I don't think he ever claimed to be some kind of hot operator. He buys and sells radio stations. And usually makes a huge profit. |

Salem's old "M.O." was to buy Contemporary Christian Music stations only to flip them to paid preaching, or just to flip to other owners after a few years, as they did with "Spirit-FM." |

I wonder if Salem's CCM strategy (here and in other markets) will pay off...stock price dropped almost 6% and hit a 52-week low today. |
|
Author: Randy_in_eugene Wednesday, August 09, 2006 - 2:48 pm |
|
Many, if not most of their CCM stations pull fairly decent ratings, and their brokered religion stations (KPDQ-FM) rake in the dough, but ratings are dismal for most of their secular right-wing talk stations, which normally get only leftover crumbs from the bigger N/T stations in their respective markets. In a city that already has KEX, KXL, KPAM, and Salem's own KPDQ-AM, a station like KTRO has a steep uphill battle. |
|
Author: Radiored Wednesday, August 09, 2006 - 3:05 pm |
|
I have heard that too (that the brokered religious stations make good money). But someone within Salem has to be more than slightly concerned that their stock price has taken a nearly 40% plunge in the past 12 months. |

Author: Scott_young Wednesday, August 09, 2006 - 3:40 pm |

If KTRO has a bright spot, I think it has to be Dennis Prager. I first became aware of him when he was a frequent guest on Tom Snyder's late night CBS TV show. I wished at the time that KABC would syndicate him, and it wasn't too long before he showed up locally on 1150. |

Maybe, KTRO should go after KEX listeners who don't like the buzz on the frequency. It's centainly a clean enough signal! |
