Am I the only one who received lectures from his parents on unusual subjects?

The top four most unusual lectures that I remember are:

1: (circa 1989) For this one to make sense, I have to mention the fact that my parents lived in Chile during Pinochet's military coup and that their political beliefs favored Allende over Pinochet. My dad said, quite frustrated (I can't remember what set him off), "I find it really frustrating how people in this country [the USA] insist over and over again that Communism is the most evil thing in the world. Don't they understand that some of those Communist leaders were trying to help people?" My mom then chimed in, "Back when Allende was President, the government gave out free baby formula to new moms."

2: (Circa 1987) My mom mentioned that amongst her friends, a French lady was the only one who would drink a glass of wine with lunch. I asked, somewhat jokingly but with some genuine concern, if this could be a sign of a drinking problem. My parents were both aghast and exclaimed, "No!" Then, my dad said, "People in this country have no culture. They would pair their steak with Coca Cola. The idea of having wine with a meal is that the right wine helps to bring out the flavor of the food."

3: (1990) Within a week or two of moving to Alabama, my dad said, "In this part of the country, there are people who are very religious. DO NOT challenge them in any way. They will fight you and you will lose."

4: (1987) Footage of the Coast Guard/FCC raid of Radio New York International was playing on TV. My mom said, "See, you shouldn't broadcast." At the time, I thought that these guys were cool, and I deeply regretted not being able to DX their station from Pennsylvania. Some time later, my dad made a comment to the effect of, "they deserved to get busted because they played rock & roll."

Logging.

Many of my Dad's family were loggers. Got lots of lectures on the art of logging. Don't laugh!!! There is an art to logging; namely, not getting killed or crippled.

Assholes.

Lots of my Dad's family were and still are assholes. And they loved to talk about other assholes.
