Mine doesn't seem to be working anymore. Is it still in effect?

I use Firefox's built-in spell checker on all the websites I use, including this one. This forum's built-in spell checker has never been particularly accurate anyway. Much better to use your browser's or get an add-on for it if you don't have one.

I don't use any spell checker other than my brain. I do have my Webster College Dictionary on the shelf, if needed, but haven't opened it in years.

See, who needs spell check, anyway? The spell checker on this board was pulled because it was pretty dumb and limited and just sucked up resources, basically.

Yes, Firefox, Safari (and I think Google's new Chrome) have great built in spell checkers. You get better security and performance with those web browsers too, over Microsoft's Internet Exploder, imho.

Thanks Dan, I thought something was wrong on my end. Andrew, thank you for your help as well.

There are other dumb things here that could use pulling too. :-)

Hey Dan, it was totally worth a shot. Thanks for at least trying it. I happen to agree with you pulling it - but even if I didn't, no big whup.

Agreed!

And, I'm not particularly worried about spelling in a message board format. Seems kind of silly to proof stuff to that degree, when it's conversation for the sake of it.

Besides, then we get the grammar police out and I always learn some little detail on those threads.

Dan is right. Firefox Rocks! I just switched from Explorer a month ago. Everything runs better and faster.

I've been using Firefox (or Mozilla) for years. While I use it 99% of the time, it has a few serious issues still. Biggest is terrible memory leaks - supposedly fixed in version 3.0 (and are better now for sure) but still there. What I mean is, as you keep Firefox open and running for a while, it gradually eats more and more RAM. For example, the FF process on my laptop has been open a few days and is eating 450MB of RAM, whereas if I closed the browser and re-opened all the windows, I'd be at about 100MB. Windows I've opened and closed don't give back all their RAM. Eventually the process gets so bloated I have to exit Firefox and re-start it. In version 2.0 it was far worse, though.

Firefox still beats Explorer on re-boots. With Explorer, I was re-booting just about every other day. Now I can go over a week!

The computer on which I'm writing this has Firefox 3.0.8. The spell-checker feature is a lifesaver. I am a bit embarrassed that the spell-checker catches me as often as it does because at one time--back in Junior High and High School--I considered myself a fairly good speller, and I did not have any tools other than the dictionary to check my spelling. Spelling and grammar matter to me because I want to show respect for the language, and I don't want to be associated with the things that non-standard usage and poor spelling bring to mind: sloppiness, a lack of education, a lack of intellect, and a chemically-induced altered state of consciousness, just to name a few!
