Once again, conservative sweetheart Sarah Palin is proving why she wasn't elected vice president. She wants the new junior US Senator from Alaska, Democrat Mark Bagich, to resign so there can be a special election and rematch between Ted Stevens and Mark Bagich.

Blame the Bush Justice Department for screwing this one up.

The Alaska Republican Party is demanding the same thing. I don't know on what basis they all think Bagich ought to resign? Probably the same basis on which they believe they should bottle up Al Franken's Senate election in the courts for 5+ years if they can.

I think that Governor Palin should concentrate on what is important to her constituents, not her ideology. She should stop scanning the horizon for Putin, turn around and look out the other window at Alaska:

"Mount Redoubt is awake. Our governor is not. I'm beyond annoyed.

Currently, 6 million gallons of Alaska crude oil wait at the base of a volcano that has puked, spewed and gone half mad 19 times in the last 8 days. The years of colonization have made flaccid the response of many Alaskans. For good reason; collective PTSD from the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill and subsequent 20 year wait only to have the Supreme Court deliver Exxon a reach-around while Alaskans grabbed their ankles fuels collective disillusionment.

It's ironic we need petroleum products to deal with an oil company. Sadly, our governor couldn't remember "Exxon v. Baker" when asked by Katie Couric about Supreme Court decisions she disagreed with. The 20th solemn observance of the catastrophic spill last week would have been an appropriate time for a statement, but she was loudly silent. It is a very real possibility that history could be repeated."

-- Shannyn Moore

Maybe Sarah will play flute and Nero will fiddle while the mountain takes away the lives and livelihoods of another generation of Alaskans.

Deane, Palin certainly scares the crap out of me. She should scare the crap out of ANY clear-thinking person - not because of her ideology but because of her (lack of) competence. My opinion of John McCain fell a few notches after he selected her as VP.

No McCain jumped a few notches with the choice of Palin.

I don't think you'll see her on the national stage again. You can relax.

McCain's people got mesmerized with having a Female on the ticket , when it was apparent that Hillary was out on the Democrat ticket.

Good Idea, wrong female. Not throughly vetted and obviously not well prepared.

Not me, I laughed my ass off when John McCain picked her to be his running mate. Did you hear when French President Sarkozy called her before the election. :-)

Myth Buster's Adam Savage & Jamie Hyneman were on Countdown a couple of nights ago.

Apparently in their new season they go to Alaska to see if they can see Russia.

And, if you go to one Alaskan Island you can see one Russian Island in the Aleutians.
But Palin's house is nowhere near.

Uh, YEAH! She's a bigger piece of trash that Bush was, that tends to scare me. What really scares me is the fact she could get elected if the idiots and religious nuts in your big tent band together the way they did for Bush. I hold out hope that too many of the younger evangelicals out there aren't the self-absorbed fanatics their parents were and understand there are more important things to think about AND won't run after someone who says "outlaw abortion and gays" and nothing else and believe me, that woman said NOTHING else.

With all that is going on up north, it is a good time for some more classic Moore. Here is the latest installment of the political soap opera playing out on the last frontier:

[cue organ music]

"Just when I think Sarah Palin must have gone off her meds...she demonstrates she has...

Tonight she released a letter to Senate President Gary Stevens. Background: I'll be brief. Juneau Senator Kim Elton-D received an appointment from President Obama to work in the Department of Interior on March 6, 2009. Alaska rules state that the district party submit preferred candidates to the Governor for an appointment.

The Juneau Democrats gave Sarah Palin one name: Beth Kerrtula. Beth is currently a House Representative. She has been a member of the House since 1999. She has been the House leader since 2006. Kerrtula is clearly the most qualified candidate in Juneau.

During the campaign, Beth said that Sarah Palin was not qualified to be VICE-President...I know, shocking assessment. Sarah had a cow and named local Republican turned Democrat Tim Grussendorf to the seat.

Tim was a Republican 3 weeks ago...tadah! Now he's a Dem. The rules state the Senate Democrats have to approve the appointment. They said, "Thanks but no thanks."

More background...even briefer: Star Date 2007, Republican Representative (from Wasilla) Vic Kohring was convicted of bribery and corruption. Empty seat. Sarah appoints an elder from her Super Size Your Jesus church, Wes Keller. The Repubs approve...DONE, Keller is a House Representative.

My gosh, you're all caught up! OH, Wait! The process is now UNCONSTITUTIONAL to Madam Palin. She has just released a letter saying she wants her pick; Republican Tim Grussendorf (sounds like a wizard from Harry Potter) to go before the full house for approval! And, Palin believes the historical process is wrong.

I only hope she has medicine for the drama she brings to the state of Alaska."

I was done with McCain the week that he picked Palin for VP. I heard her say some incredibly inept things and her ideaology shifted the ticket too far on the social conservative side for a fiscal conservative, social liberal like me.

I voted Obama and I am very happy with my choice... even though I am not in favor of bailing out companies ... if the market says they should go away... they should go away...

Palin certainly scares the crap out of me.....

And turn the coin over and we find

Nancy P. Losi. who ought to scare the crap out of everyone. Palin has no power to affect anyone outside Alaska. Nancy dearest however, DOES have the power to affect all of us.

Great point Roger.

Palin is totally harmless. She will not be a national candidate for anything in the future. Polosi is helping destroy America's future right now and none of the liberals on this forum have a thing to say about it.

Though Polosi is not my favorite politician, Bush still remains the worst. 8 trillion dollars worth globally. Bush is still the most expensive catastrophe in history. In Bush's own words "...didn't see it coming."

I just found this funny given Palin's stand on abstinence.

From Parentdish.com

This has my jaw on the floor: Levi Johnston, Bristol Palin's baby daddy and former fiancé, says that he and Bristol were allowed to share a bed in the Palin house when they were dating -- and, he says, he thinks that Governor Sarah Palin knew that the couple were having sex.

"I'm pretty sure she probably knew," Johnston told Tyra Banks in an interview that airs Monday. "Moms are pretty smart." Johnston also told Banks that he and Bristol Palin practiced safe sex "most of the time."

Which is different, of course, from practicing abstinence all of the time.

It should be noted that even with the US Justice Departments decision to dismiss the charges against Ted Stevens, it's clear the former US Senator broke the law. Too bad the Bush Justice Department couldn’t get it right the first place.

A Senator should have never let this ethics cloud form around him. Coming up with excuses like "Oh, he "loaned" that to me", for unreported gifts is an insult to Americans.

While he's apparently not in legal trouble at this moment, he is surely a guilty damn-the-ethics a-hole.

Alaskans can do better than this.
