In 1955, Irving R. Levine was, for a time, the only American radio and television correspondent in the Soviet Union. |

I really liked his reporting on NBC News. He did an excellent job. If memory serves, one of his last reports on NBC Nightly News was playing a little basketball with Shaquille O'Neill. Good stuff. |

Mr. Levine is another of the great generation of Radio/TV Reporters who understood the difference between Reporting and Commenting on the news, and how to properly research a story. Hopefully the lines between the two which have blurred in the past few years will become clearer. |

Irving R. Levine did the bow tie justice. Not many people these days can pull that off. |

I remember watching Levine's reports while growing up, back in the 1980s. It is too bad that I was too young to appreciate the journalistic integrity of his work back then. It is even worse that back then, I took TV news and newspapers for granted, never thinking that journalism would one day decline to its present status. The difference between old-timers like Levine and what largely passes for "journalism" today is that guys like Levine cared about TRUTH. |
