He's doing what the idiot squad we've had for the last eight years should have done, he's finishing the first war and trying to end the second. I've said all along we should have finished what we started in Afganistan and taken care of Bin Laden before starting another conflict that has nothing to do with the "war on terror". However, I was told by right wing talk show hosts and the "freedom loving" people running the government at the time I had better watch what I say. Isn't that right Deane? That's why I like to remind the righties that insist on coming on this site and annoying everyone with their hypocricies and right wing tripe their hero, George W. Bush did say "I don't think much about Bin Laden anymore". They have that on video and they seem to offer no reason why a man who declared a war on terror made such a statement. I just better watch what I say. THAT'S the conservative answer.

I love Obama's response to the poor folks in North Dakota: "Be Vigilant!" He's like Bill and Ted, "be excellent dudes". What a goof. Where is he when they need him most? Not even a flyover? This is change we need!

What the hell is he supposed to do? Fly Air Force One into Fargo and drive around in his motorcade from levy to levy getting the best possible photo op? The last president mastered the art of the "flyover". Let the real work begin the White House working with local political leadership and the North Dakota congressional delegation. "Be Vigilant" sounds a whole hell of a lot better than "Brownie, you're doin' a heck of a job."

Dodger, you're such a rube. There are bigger fish to fry right now than a flyover in North Dakota. Besides, the article I read yesterday told me all I need to know about these folks. They're spending their time in church praying rather than filling sand bags. So, it appears they've got it handled.

OK, I will take the bait: which combination of supernatural being and prayer or incantation is most effective at stopping flood waters? How about Quetzalcoatl? Atlas? (Hey, he is strong enough to hold up the celestial sphere, so stopping floodwaters should be easy for him, right?) The Virgin Mary? (Turn on Catholic Radio and pray along!) The Flying Spaghetti Monster?

The water level dropped thanks to physics, not prayer. River levels can be predicted, and the prediction is not a guess. And to be honest, why pray to a god that allowed the flood to occur? Seems kinda stupid if you ask me.

Talk about a theological discussion that has gone sour. For me prayer is communication with God. The actions of the sand baggers is based on community effort that may well be inspired by those who prayed then got to work. Did prayer make this happen? I really don't know. But did prayer help some to put down their bibles and pick up there shovels to lend a help hand? I hope so. Placing blame and heroics on God for things in this world that are not easily explainable is, IMHO, the wrong way to approach the entire God issue. It ain't that black and white. Should we then not pray for those in North Dakota? No. Should we call dumb luck, physics, great geological miracle? Maybe. Like Missing said....It's all good and I for one am thankful for at least now those people won't have to deal with an even worse disaster. However the river could still crest and create flooding. I hope this reprieve gives those folks enough time to do what they need to do.

We shouldn't go around saying God saved someone or some people because he doesn't do that. On the river thing, time spent praying is better spent filling sandbags, because in that case, praying really could kill ya.

Broadway, you've contributed to the destruction of God's image in this forum more than any other poster, ever. You're a person whose selfishness knows no boundaries. "you're pure evil." I wouldn't go that far Skep, but I can certainly understand your position. Broadway is doing what many conservative evangelicals have been doing for years and that's simply to throw out enough scripture that they'll get brownie points from God and some kudo's of church members because they are sharing the light in a dark place. Dan is hardly an evil man, but certainly in my opinion cherry picks scripture to justify his personal agenda, whether he knows that or not.

So basically Broadway is using this board for ONE REASON ONLY! To Preach the word of god so he will get brownie points from his god. No Offense Chris Taylor, but I find that a bit pathetic on Broadways part. I find that Broadways posts are nothing but preaching, Its almost like he thinks he can brainwash people into becoming religious. Broadway has no real human charectoristics to his posts, infact he sounds almost like a robot, spewing off all of his religious diatribe. Remember the 1980's Tv Show "Shes a small wonder"??? The main charector "Vickey the robot" reminds me a lot of Broadway. His posts are more "Robot like" than human. So from now on when you read Broadway's Posts, think "Vickey the Robot" is saying them. And if you forget Who "Vickey the Robot" is, here is a refresherhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdukNkdPoEo&feature=related

Justin- First off I know Broadway personally. Actually we've known each other probably over 20 years. Part of the radio fraternity. So in that respect we are family. My wife, whom Broadway knows, came from a very conservative church upbringing and is quite familiar with the way Broadway is presenting the gospel. It's the "answering questions no one is asking" approach which naturally eliminates quality dialogue. So what you are getting from Broadway are bible verses with no context thus they are of little or no value to the non-believer. This is my major problem with the conservative/evangelical church. There is a change in the wind and they haven't recognized it as legit so they continue doing things the way they've always done it thinking it was the way Jesus did it. That mindset crept into Christianity about 150 years ago and hasn't left. I try and take a more thoughtful approach limiting my biblical passages and trying to as honest as a person I can be with my own faith. Yes Broadway and I share the same faith and probably could sit down with each other and enjoy a good bible study despite our theological differences. I would also love to sit with Skep and wax philosophically on ways we can change the world.

What God does NOT do is answer prayers regarding all matters on Earth, We have to solve our own woes without His help. Interesting idea Skep. Faith is personal but it's rarely private. It's how we choose to manifest itself among others is the real challenge. Broadway seems to take this as some kind of personal badge of honor that will score points towards heaven. I have never really understood that kind of presentation of the gospel. But we have digressed once again.

" So the question now is...to quote a scripture is to be preached at cause isn't that's what started all this? Sad. There can be all kinds of profanities here and I speak up for right choices and get blasted. Sad again... " OOOOOH. You were SO close to having a really good point. One that I almost was able to respond to positively. ( Well, let's be honest - I do see your point and have a hard time counterpointing you on that front ). But ( and I'm not trying to put words in Chris' mouth ) you choose a few words, often, that frames everything you say as right. Not just for you, but for everyone else too. You would get a lot further by using the phrase " I believe " just a bit more often. I suspect that is what you actually mean when you say " right choices " but you rarely take the time to say it that way. Even though Missing " fixes " your posts sometimes. And when you continue to be so absolute, it's going to crack...I believe. It's as if you believe that God will be disappointed in you for saying what you believe to be true - by saying YOU BEILIEVE this or that. Like God will notice that you are hedging your bets. In my opinion, what I believe to be true is that having the confidence to mentally acknowledge an occasional interpretation that differs from you may actually gain favor with your God. And if your God has a problem with anything other than absolute expression absolutely, then, well, good luck with that in your daily logging on to PDXRadio. Just give it some thought.

I tried! "I believe" is completely and utterly honest and not offensive in the least. It's also not so authoritative, and that's the rub. The "bow down or God will teach you a lesson" types just hate that! Takes the fire out of the fire and brimstone! (funny how that works huh?) IMHO, this matter is lost, and I've resigned to just letting it pass, but for those really ugly things that merit a solid response. Not for Broadway, that is what I mean by lost, for others... And Broadway, we MAY or MAY NOT serve someone in the end. That is the faith part man! (hint: the "I believe" bit.) It could be that all we have is the time here. Then again, it could be that we have some afterlife to enjoy. The jury is out, and we've no information from the beyond. So then, we make our choices, and given the reality we live in, getting along in them and experiencing the here and now to the fullest is something we all have a vested interest in, with that interest ticking away, one minute at a time... Life is too short man. You are who you are. My only regret is you not being able to see others in like kind.

...and God appears to put up with a lot. Heck a serial killer can find God and secure their entry into heaven, right? Sure I'm right? So then, what is a bit of honesty in expression? We all know you are all in on this deal. No worries! That's just conviction, and you have it to a level that makes everybody proud! Good for you. So then, being secure in that, having a rational discussion with somebody, whose convictions differ from yours does what exactly? NOTHING! Saying that "I believe" or "My choice is" does that! We know you are all in! We also know you recognize that others are not all in. Maybe it's just a value bet for them at this point in time, or they reject it all together. The mere idea of realism isn't going to threaten the all powerful is it? (and if it is, that's a very serious theological discussion, don't you think? I do.) So then, does it threaten you as CJ implied? If so, why? Either you have your conviction, or you don't. Maybe you are worried about that, so you project it onto everybody and everything, hoping you do have it, because it's a problem if you don't? Relax. You are who you are, and you believe what you believe. These things are only a problem if YOU think they are. I know I'm not worried about any of it. You shouldn't be either. And we don't agree on the basics, and that's absolutely ok. Think hard on CJ's post.

Here's a simple example Dan: Chris says: I believe Jesus is God's only son. Broadway: You need Jesus to be saved. Difference: I own my own beliefs. I share them and express them as my own. I also try and clarify my personal beliefs. Ultimately they are my own. However you tell people how they should believe. That's the difference. Just own your beliefs and you will get more respect from those here and they will be more incline to accept those beliefs. It's really embarrassing at times to read your posts. (I'll still good for that coffee Chris, just let me know when and where!) Even I the uncouth unbeliever went to Sunday School. That's how it works! That is the hook, the witness, the message! Dude, that is the secret sauce! Threatening others, with absolute statements closes the door to advocacy. They shut down and when that happens you are done, out, marginalized! Want to know a KSKD secret? It works for ANYTHING, not just religion. This discussion lies at the core of how people communicate, come to be friends, become enlightened! Funny how that Sunday School works isn't it? I've entertained this more than I should. I'm going to out and say that because Chris stated it was worth a bit of time. Is it?
