Looks like the Obama socialist thrust is taking on more momentum than anyone could have dreamed. He has to be following Chavez closely these days.

Deane, why do you believe that Obama wants to " seize firms " ? I mean, what do you think motivates him to do that? Do you think it's greed? As in, he and his pals will make a lot of money personally?

Or possibly it's just a lust for power?

Or something else?

Not asking rhetorically. I'm asking for your take.

You know, I think you're getting it wrong who the crook is here. Under your hero Bush, you remember Bush, the man who told us how he believed in freedom and liberty until 9/11 happened then the only ones who got freedom and liberty were your friends at the corporate level. My vision of Republican government of the rich getting richer and the rest of us getting God shoved down our throats began to come true.

Unlike you, I have a problem being made to answer to corporate executives. Our country over the last 20 years has been hijacked by the CEO and religious nut. The nuts have started to lose power for at least a while. Now I want the CEO to lose power and give the power back to average American AND frankly, I'm surprised you don't join me in my views considering how pro-family you consider yourself to be. The corporation is the most anti-family entity in this country. Those "socialist democrats" created time for new parents and a living wage, the latter being eroded by your friends at the top. The CEO believes everyone should work themselves into an early grave, the hell with everything else in life.

I say rein in the executive and take our country back. This really is your own fault for trusting ANYONE at the top, born crooks all of them. That's how they get to the top.

It's like I always say, save a family, bag a CEO. Have a great day Deane - your wrong again.

Wow, it sure took you a long time to figure out that both Obama and Chavez are big White Sox fans. Funny thing, Ozzie Guillen is an American now, so I guess we know who won that argument. Oh, wait a minute, I forgot to refer to the talking point.

Deane, the government seized firms in World War Two. Study your history and get back to us. In December of 1944, the National Guard carried the CEO of Montgomery Ward out in his chair. War contractors were routinely reorganized, labor had to renegotiate contracts and in some cases the workforce was forced to accept (gasp!) women as equals.

If shredding the Constitution is alright by you, but your blessed bigwigs are off limits, you are the one lacking American values, not the President. We are a nation at war today. We also have an economic crisis. Loans and bailouts are not free money. At a point, if the taxpayers paid for it, they own it outright.

Simple! He is a socialist in sheep's clothing.

>>>"Deane, the government seized firms in World War Two."<<<

This isn't WWII. We aren't at war in that sense. This is peacetime seizing of properties.

This socialist revolution will not be done with tanks and guns. It will sneak up on us one piece at a time. It will use naivety, not weapons to accomplish it's goal. I don't want this to be a socialist country, but that's where Obama is going to take us.

"Simple! He is a socialist in sheep's clothing."

Nothing in politics is simple.

According to Deane and his obvious hero, Glenn Beck, President Obama will make our country communistic. Beck is a 'reformed' alcoholic and drug addict, I wonder what Deane's excuse is.

Quick, attack the messenger. Get the discussion off reality. Libs don't want anyone to know what's really happening. Some don't know themselves.

The Gospel of the Star Trek Universe.

Most of us ( the baby boomer generation for the most part ) enjoyed Star Trek in all its incarnations on TV and in the movies. Realize for a moment the Government envisioned in the Star Trek Universe. There wasnt a whole lot of story time spent on the political interworkings of 'Star Fleet' and the United Federation of Planets" or even the one world " Terran Government " depicted in the saga. A bit more was spent in description of one world government in the last TV franchise, " Enterprise " , however.

My point is that many of us, now politically Conservative, such as myself, thought and still do think highly of the Star Trek concept and Universe , as improbable as it might really be. And as we embrace such a " one world or Universal " view of reality in our imaginations, we reject it literally in our own reality !

How odd is that, fellow babies ? A paradox ?

I think its fear. Fear that those who would change our system of Economies et al. We believe that our leaders probably dont know anymore than WE DO about big changes, and as a result, we collectively are afraid of the sacrifices to be made individually to bring about the changes really needed to run the Planet correctly and still be human beings satisfying our curiosities and striving for knowledge a better life.

It is a bit like a Viking Opera, it aint over till the fat lady sings. And we dont want to see the Fat Lady sing, not yet.

Amazing but true COMMON factors to both.

Both have 5 letters in their name OBAMA / CHAVEZ except Chavez has one more

Both men lead countries who have people playing professional baseball.

One man leads a country that produces oil, one leads a country that uses oil.

Neither man has been to the Faroe islands

Both live in countries that border the Atlantic ocean.

Both men wear pants.

I really hate it that Deane is figuring out our "Lib" secrets. How we put Obama in place in order to convert our country over to socialism, how we "Libs" want the government to completely control everyone's lives, how we will be going door to door to take away everyone's guns and property, etc.

It's scary that he's so smart! Damn!

Now what are we going to do?

I'm going to ask questions that may seem silly to even ask. But I bet the fact that there are so many different perspectives, predictions and actualy answers may kind of prove kind of worth. At least to me.

If we became Socialist to the degree that Deane suggests, what would that look like? I mean, what would change?

I cannot foresee under any circumstances under which President Obama would move towards nationalization. Too, it would probably be challenged in the courts and with the current make-up of the US Supreme Court, I doubt any effort at socialist dalliances would be upheld.

I wish those who are using the term “socialist” to describe President Obama would point to specifics as to where he intends to deliver us to this socialist utopia.

We have French socialism, German National socialism, British socialism, Scandinavian socialism, Ghandi and socialism in India. Can someone define what American socialism under President Obama is supposed to represent?

Fear. If conservatives don't know what to be afraid of, they don't know what to do with themselves.

Yep.

This is the next front. The religious nut-bags kind of took a back seat for a while.

Now it's the pro-corporate types.

I think it's funny watching people squirm about this. Really big business has a serious problem. Now it's not hidden behind the fire, brimstone and drool religious right any more!

I'll second that!
