Scott Tom for increasing his daily airshift to a full 14(count 'em)hours and still sounding fresh as a daisy in his last break on day #3 of "Scott Tom Held Hostage!".

Scott is truly a class act. I see him 2 or 3 times a year and he is always pleasant, cordial, friendly and any other nice words you can come up with. Just the same as the first day I met him years ago. Scott you are "The Man".

I'm going to get his partner in crime drunk as a skunk this evening. When Williams gets back to town you all call call him up during his air shift and ask what Tent City, pink underwear, and horizontally striped jammies are like. I'm assuming, of course, that JW will have a shift to come back to and Scott won't end up doing 14 hours a day, EVERYDAY. One more Scott Tom story: I'm sitting in my office at KKSN which was situated right next to the restrooms which were right across the hall from the "KISN" control room. Scott does a break then I see him dash across the hall. Two and a half minutes later the song fades...and fades...and is gone. I jump up and run into the control room to fire off a tune but the Enco system KKSN used was so totally confusing that I end up just staring at the control board not knowing what button to hit for fear of having nine elements on at once. The door opens across the hall with Scott hopping and tripping out, trying his best to keep his pants up, hits the right button and the station is off and running again. I shrugged and walked back to my office. Scott ended up top five (adults) middays I think. Aside from the fact that he drinks way too much, lusts after women he's not married to, and almost single-handedly supports the Oregon Lottery, there ain't nobody better.

I remember hearing his first shift on KSWB, Seaside oh so many years ago. A bit rough in his debut, he made several mentions of being the dj with two first names. He sure went on to show he is a fine talent.

He may well be the hardest working man in radio-biz! There isn't an airshift, wedding, or DJ gig that he won't do. And, I think he has also acquired a used van from every station he has ever worked for. If anyone deserves to be treated well by this insensitive industry we all care so much about, it's Scott. About time you got some good ink, pal.

Note to self: future post topic...attending NAB in New Orleans with Craig Walker and bumping into Robin Mitchell at Pat O'Brien's which was also celebrating pledge week at Tulane. Craig still drank in those days and Robin hasn't had a drink since. We would've made Scott Tom PROUD. By the way, this is where I'm taking John Boy tomorrow night... buffalochipsaloon.com

Hey, I've got some stories about Scott, but then he'd blackmail me and my lawyer fees are too high as it is. Maybe after a couple of cocktails...purchased by Minck!

I had the pleasure of working with Scott very briefly in the early AM Friday on the SOLV radiothon- another 14 hour grind but way harder work than the typical day, and pushing the cause hard on every break plus a real gentleman to the volunteers on duty. Outstanding.

If a 14 hour day wasn't enough, on day #5, he ran a radiothon for the full extent of it! I believe the final tally was over $14,000 going to SOLV.

So, Mink and Robin and I were sitting at Pat O'Briens in NO. They served (and probably still do)a drink called a Hurricane. You even got to keep the glass!! They brought a glass out that had to measure about 3 feet across with straws around the entire glass and placed it on the table next to us. The table was occupied by countless about-to-be Freshman at Tulane who were going through Rush Week. Very entertaining....much more so than the NAB sessions back at the hotel. Great trip.

Ever since Katrina I've been thinking of making the trip just to donate a few pesos into the French Quarter economy. What a wonderful place! Beignets at Cafe Du Monde (wonder if Charlie's Rhythm & Brews has those? They should!)...cocktails at the Chart Room at Chartre and Bienville (look at the amazing collection of call letter carvings in the restroom including more than a few from Portland)...and any one of about seven dozen great places to eat. However...getting those hurricane glasses home without breaking was always a challenge! A couple of 'em are probably still floating around various garage sales in Beaverton.

On the same trip, we were sitting in another bar (we must have spent most of our time in those places). Mink and I looked across the bar and there was Bob Keeshan (Captain Kangaroo) tossing back a few. We debated going over and asking him what he really kept in those big pockets...we decided to take a pass.
