If you drive in Downtown Salem and tune in 102.9 I thought I would hear the pea-shooter 2 watter KPIK out of Stayton-Scio but started hearing Ham Operations info...no ID...just 2 guys yaking about the hobby...going for a week now...then I looked up freq on the FCC site, new LPFM owned by WESTERN OREGON RADIO CLUB...makes sense...true radio propaganda! Making a weak trip from over Newberg to downtown Salem.

That is pretty amazing for 1 Watt! I can hear it from Hillsboro fine, but it is very weak in the car... My automobile has a vertical antenna and the station is horizontal polarization. Perhaps one of those windshield FM antennas would work better for this station. Do you have a standard vertical whip or windshield antenna? It has been on the air at least a month... there is more about this station on the "Towers and MUCH" thread, starting Feb 12.

I might have been wrong about KQSO being horizontally polarized. The FCC FM Query says that their antenna is a Shively 6812B ( http://www.mediatoolsbroadcast.ro/media/download_gallery/SHIVELY%20LABS_data%20s heet%206812b-hw.pdf ), which is a circularly polarized antenna. This was the same style of antenna that I saw atop the Heritage Christian School building (KQRZ-LP).

Odd... I just checked the FCC site again and it is showing Horizontal and Vertical component for both KQSO and KQRZ... I thought that when I looked before it only showed Horizontal.

I will let you know if I hear them yelling "CQ CQ CQ" on 102.9! :-)

The one time that I tuned in, they had several different shows, each just a few minutes long, with information about amateur radio, a newscast, and music. Listening to them for one afternoon, I think I heard all of the different shows that they had in rotation. It sounded like everything was being played from an automation system.

The Ham LPFM (102.9 KQSO-LP) is out of Newberg, while the LPFM covering Scio and Stayton (102.9 KPIK-LP) is playing Oldies.
